First dose: 5,383,103
Second dose: 466,796

FuzzyPuffling · 22/01/2021 17:36

Based on a 60 year old man. Young women don't have this level of risk but that would also increase by .3 - I think was the gist.

I'm an old woman!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 17:48

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Case numbers (40 261) are also excellent given it was 55 757 last Friday.
That is a good dropSmile
FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 17:48

But you were replying to twinmum2017. Maybe I was over reaching with my Columbo prowess but I figured...had twins 4 years ago, probably a young woman? I 'll hang up my cigar if I'm wrong.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/01/2021 17:57

@tootyfruitypickle

Didn’t Boris say 1 in 10 of population now had first dose ?
Yes , it’s really amazing.
twinmum2017 · 22/01/2021 18:01

@Ifyourefeelingsinister apologies if that was for me, I just knew someone on here would be better informed!

@FourTeaFallOut not the youngest I could be to have 4 year olds, but I wouldn't say I was an old woman just yet!

BBCONEANDTWO · 22/01/2021 18:03

OMG - I'm so HAPPY with all the vaccines' being given that must be around 8% of population?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 18:03

Right my take on the briefing:

The new variant possibly being more dangerous could also be explained differently. They haven't said how much the fact that the hospitals are 78% more busy is affecting care. It stand to reason if ICU is busting then there is less staff to deal with each patient. I want to here from doctors if they think patients are sicker or it is a side effect of the sudden massive numbers hospitalised.

We also know that all numbers are starting to look good and they need people to behave a bit longer.

I am on the fence about whether this is something to worry about until more information.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 18:05

@FourTeaFallOut

409k vaccinations is epic. That's well over .5 of the population in a day.
That would be .5% before I'm accused of having gone mad on blind optimism Wink
TheChineseChicken · 22/01/2021 18:07

Let’s also not forget that the baseline risk - for all groups - is relatively low. I’m not minimising it but an increase on low is still low. It’s not correct just to look at the relative change, you also have to consider the baseline. In any case, it sounds like various data sources conflict so we need more information.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 18:08

Yeah, those people on the Good News Thread, they’re not living in the real world! One of them said we vaccinated half the population in a single day!

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 18:09

Oh no, I feel a name change coming on Blush

Blerg · 22/01/2021 18:14

Thanks for the unpacking of the briefing. I didn’t see it but the framing of the headlines totally freaked me out.

Great news on the vaccine progress.

Forgetmenot157 · 22/01/2021 18:20

As previous people have said media will make it sound much worse than it is. Even bofre we get more information.... The fact is old varient 1 person who caught the disease may die... Now that risk with the new varient has gone to 1.3 people... Obviously not ideal but Considering early on some people were talking about 5-10% mortality rate... Going from 1%-1.3% doesn't seem horrendous.

Elephant4 · 22/01/2021 18:23

The thing I don't get about this thread - is that this situation isn't getting better. Is it?

There are more people than ever being infected, hospitalized and dying now.

It's great to be positive. But this is starting to feel like a denial thread.

MadisonAvenue · 22/01/2021 18:27

@TJ17 I called and what a frustrating call that was. The lady I spoke to (a different one to who had replied to the email) repeatedly used CV. I’d eventually had enough of saying “but we’re CEV” and pointed out to her that there’s a difference between CV and CEV. Her response? “I’m only missing out a word” ...and causing a lot of confusion in doing so.

Anyway, she said that if a text has been received then you’re in group 4, but they’ve split group 4 and are doing the 70-75 years age group first and then once they’re done and they have more clinic time allocated at the local hub they’ll move onto the CEV group, so I suppose you could say that they’ve created a group 4a and group 4b.

Except... there’s not? The case numbers are going down. Hospitalisations and deaths will follow. The vaccine roll out is going well. There are things to be positive about.

Plenty of room on the internet if you would like to start a different space.

NeedingCoffee · 22/01/2021 18:28

@Elephant4 - leave the thread and post somewhere else if you don’t like it; this one is good news only.

Don’t read it then.

It’s about good news not only post if situation is getting better

And it will get better anyway

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2021 18:30

The entirety of mn is pretty much bad news right now, so go there?

Really? Cases are going down daily (with deaths to follow suit shortly) and vaccines are being rolled out at an immense pace.

No denial happening here. Go somewhere else if you don't like it.

Cases are falling, hospital admissions are levelling off/falling, deaths are (very sadly) probably about to peak in the next few days. The figures are there to back it up, so where's the denial?
