I have developed a riposte for vaccine wobblers who "don't know how it works"...."I don't know how my car works but I still drive and that's why I have a great mechanic!"

When DH had his stem cell transplant he had to have all his childhood vaccinations again. Every single one...!

TJ17 · 22/01/2021 12:40

Oh thank you guys. There were times where I wasn't sure I would manage to be honest!
But we are here now. 6 weeks post op today (meaning I can finally lift her under the arms again! Making life much easier)
She has a heart defect so we are in this for life but she's doing great at present can't ask for more than that!

So that is my good news for today (the weather deffo helps completely agree!!) Smile

Oh wow interesting @FuzzyPuffling that he had them all again! I'm glad they didn't overlook that

Nothing Covid related, but my good news is that the sun is shining here! It’s blooming cold, but just about to have a toasted sandwich (ham, cheese and red pesto - in case you’re interested!). I’m then going to wrap up and get out in the garden for the first time in ages. I planted over 20 roses last June, so about to have my first go at pruning (hacking) them!

I know we’ve had cute animals on here. Just thought I’d pop in a couple of blooms from last summer - really looking forward to seeing them again this year when they’re a bit more established.

I saw my first brave snowdrops today, plus an absolute carpet of winter aconites.

@TJ17 my so. also had open heart surgery at 4 months old so I can only imagine what it was like with a pandemic going on at the same time. Glad your daughter is on the mend and I hope the worry is starting to subside. My son is a very happy 9 year old now!
TJ17 · 22/01/2021 13:02

Ahh @chri55ie I'm glad he's doing well now!

It always brings me hope when people tell me about their older children doing well. I'm still very much in a cloud of constant hospital appointments, medication and anxiety!

Hence this wonderful thread so I can avoid the doom out there!

chri55ie · 22/01/2021 13:05

Yes I was totally the same! I remember the long list of medication!

FuzzyPuffling · 22/01/2021 13:20

Lots of love to TJ17 and Chri55ie for your wonderful children and for your bravery.

When DH had his repeat jabs the nurse thought it was quite amusing ( a man in his 50s having childhood immunisations - quite rare!) and even gave him a sticker! I had forgotten quite how many jabs there are and quite how long it takes. MMR has a gap of a year between doses...bit more than 12 weeks and it still works!!

chri55ie · 22/01/2021 13:34

Thanks @FuzzyPuffling that’s a very kind thing to say and to you too with your DH.

Whatever9999 · 22/01/2021 13:48

R rate has just been updated. 0.8-1 nationally
East of England 0.6-0.9
London 0.7-0.9
Midlands 0.9-1.2
North East&Yorks 0.8-1.1
North West 0.9-1.2
South East 0.7-1.0
South West 0.9-1.2

I'm in the East of England, we were hit very hard beginning of month, but numbers are dropping fast

London and East look good

Probably to do with new variant hitting earlier?

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2021 13:50

Same here in SE London. Numbers dropping incredibly quickly

MadisonAvenue · 22/01/2021 14:06

That’s really good news about the R rate.

I needed something like that. Just banging my head up a brick wall with my GP surgery. Both me and my son are CEV so are in the fourth group to be vaccinated. We both had texts this morning asking for a YES reply if we want it and someone will be call to book us in. Yay! Then 15 minutes later another text arrived telling us to ignore that if we’re under 70 and they’ll younger CV adults when the time comes.
I’ve emailed and said that we’re CEV and not CV, have had shielding letters, emails and texts and are grouped in with the 70-75 year olds. I’ve had a reply to that saying that they’re currently booking in that age group but not the CV groups and they’ll be in touch when they get to that stage. Am I just dealing with someone who can’t distinguish between CEV and CV, or are they ignoring CEV for now?
I’m going to have to call or it’ll nag at me all weekend.

MadisonAvenue · 22/01/2021 14:09

Missed ‘contact’ out there when writing about the second text.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 14:09

It definitely sounds like someone is failing to make the distinction where they should be!

MadisonAvenue · 22/01/2021 14:13

It does, doesn’t it. I did reply straight back asking if that was correct and again pointing out that we’re CEV and not CV but whereas their first reply came through in minutes I’ve had nothing back.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 14:18

Well ONs figures out today show we can bin REACT/ Imperial latest doom story. As well as all the other sources of data showing it was incorrect. So again a lot of drama about nothing.

Mumsnet needs a town cryer. Every time we get one of these new doom stories they can pop on threads. ALL IS WELL. NOTHING TO SEE HERE FOLKS Grin

scotlandg · 22/01/2021 14:24

Yay, that's a real relief to see those better figures. I feel like the media just like us to panic more. As if being in this situation wasn't enough without them blowing stuff up. Should be banned on mental health grounds.

Totally agree @scotlandg some of the headlines recently have been irresponsible

That whole REACT thing was ridiculous

Tg for some posters on here who could assess the data, unlike media

I think it depends on what they mean by booking in age group

Is it age group as in purely about age. Therefore they a0re wrong or age group within cev group

If the last then that is just a way of making it far. Going down the cev list in age groups. The older ones potentially having a double risk. If you don't look at individual details.

Could you ask them to clarify if you don't know the answer already.

Anyway hope you don't have to much longer to wait.

Just whispering that the SW R rates are the worst in the country and still in growth. Don't cheer too loud yet!
