@TJ17 my son had open heart surgery at 6 days old- I don’t know how we got through it, you just middle thrift don’t you. He’s now a fit, healthy, super active 7 year old (almost 8!) and you would never even guess.
He had coarctation of the aorta and multiple VSDs. Terrifying time. Glad your DD is past the 6 week point ☺️

chri55ie · 22/01/2021 15:31

@TeaInTheGarden that’s what my son had- coarctation of the aorta. Nice scar to prove it too!

Wow Shock jaw dropping figures!!

@Furries

Nothing Covid related, but my good news is that the sun is shining here! It’s blooming cold, but just about to have a toasted sandwich (ham, cheese and red pesto - in case you’re interested!). I’m then going to wrap up and get out in the garden for the first time in ages. I planted over 20 roses last June, so about to have my first go at pruning (hacking) them!

I know we’ve had cute animals on here. Just thought I’d pop in a couple of blooms from last summer - really looking forward to seeing them again this year when they’re a bit more established.

Snap - Just been out doing some pruning...... found that the snowdrops have popped their heads out of the ground too Grin. In the sun it actually felt quite springlike, and the cat was amazed and pleased to have some company.

It looks like at some point next week Scotland will have given a first dose of vaccination to 10% of the over-16s population. That's pretty amazing.

Yet step off of this thread and the whining that's going on about the poor effort the government are making at rolling this out.

Inastatus · 22/01/2021 15:47

@TJ17 - I’m sorry to hear about your DD and yes, absolutely crucial that those who can have vaccines do so in order to protect those who can’t. It’s very selfish to think otherwise. I hope your DD goes from strength to strength.

Welikebeingcosy · 22/01/2021 15:48

I just accidentally went on the main threads and even only stuck to positive looking ones and I'm running back here in fright!

In other good news they've closed the unsanitary refugee camp next door to me after a petition started. It's been so depressing watching them locked up every day shuffling around the outdoor grounds shivering in their doorways in that freezing cold environment.
You could hear cheering as I picked up DD from nursery next door and it made me feel a little bit of hope.

Welikebeingcosy · 22/01/2021 15:55

Just found some good news a mass vaccination centre is due to open in my town next week. That will boost numbers greatly! We could be on 400k a day in a few weeks!

TeaInTheGarden · 22/01/2021 15:56

@chri55ie yes the scar is impressive, dread to think the story he will be telling girls about it when he’s older 😆

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 15:58

Welikebeingcosy - why do you think it will take a few weeks?!

TeaInTheGarden · 22/01/2021 15:59

10% if UK adult population has now had their first dose. Incredible!!

LetItGoGo · 22/01/2021 16:00

That's great news!

Welikebeingcosy · 22/01/2021 16:04

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel a few weeks max. Because they haven't said they WILL necessarily open next week but are hoping to.

Cathster · 22/01/2021 16:08

That R rate is amazing! Not even going to look at the SW one Grin

I keep getting caught out by doom mongers in real life that tell me schools aren't going to open until after Easter, usually just after I've had a rant about my poor attempts at home schooling.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/22/watch-government-might-trying-hide-progress-vaccine-roll-out/

Not sure how many of you can access this, but interesting in that it supports my (our) theory, that there are many more vaccines in the system than the government are letting on, and for lots of good reasons.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 16:14

According to the daily update it’s over 400k first doses today! I accept it may drop again over the weekend, but still!

TeaInTheGarden · 22/01/2021 16:17

400k in a day is amazing. That’s 2.8million per week if they keep it up...!

Case numbers (40 261) are also excellent given it was 55 757 last Friday.

Wow wow wow that's just amazing 🙏🏼🥳

Thanks for all the love for DD everyone! She's been in her jumperoo for the first time today and you'd never know that 6 weeks ago today she was having open heart surgery! 😃

I am just more than ever so grateful for medical science!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 16:22

@FuzzyPuffling

Just whispering that the SW R rates are the worst in the country and still in growth. Don't cheer too loud yet!
Hopefully that is still the ripple though. Fingers crossed.

When I was looking at case numbers last night the few places that were going up still were by very small numbers. I think it is just as their case numbers are low to start with it mathematical looks worse.

TJ17 · 22/01/2021 16:24

@MadisonAvenue

That’s really good news about the R rate.

I needed something like that. Just banging my head up a brick wall with my GP surgery. Both me and my son are CEV so are in the fourth group to be vaccinated. We both had texts this morning asking for a YES reply if we want it and someone will be call to book us in. Yay! Then 15 minutes later another text arrived telling us to ignore that if we’re under 70 and they’ll younger CV adults when the time comes.
I’ve emailed and said that we’re CEV and not CV, have had shielding letters, emails and texts and are grouped in with the 70-75 year olds. I’ve had a reply to that saying that they’re currently booking in that age group but not the CV groups and they’ll be in touch when they get to that stage. Am I just dealing with someone who can’t distinguish between CEV and CV, or are they ignoring CEV for now?
I’m going to have to call or it’ll nag at me all weekend.

They've definitely got this wrong haven't they @MadisonAvenue! Which is quite worrying.

CEV are deffo in with the over 70s! In priority group 4.
CV are a category by themselves (priority 6) after the over 65s (priority 5).

I'd like to think their silence is them now realising they've made an error and not knowing how to admit it!

Hope you both get yours soon 🙏🏼❤️

I may have posted part of this on a previous thread but...
Bit of personal good news (and I hope this isn't triggering for anyone who has lost love ones as I'm writing to try and reassure people.)

My 86yo Nan has been in hospital for a week with Covid (caught from her carers). She is on a ward so has avoided ICU and has now been weaned off oxygen for the second time (first time she couldn't cope) but this time she's doing ok! I'm sure we aren't out of the woods yet but I honestly thought she was a goner last week!

I have been worried sick about DM this whole pandemic - she is CV due to various health conditions and also over 60. She tested positive this week from being in a bubble with my Nan and apart from a spike in temp which prompted her to test she is A symptomatic!

My auntie who has COPD had it over Xmas, felt very poorly but needed no medical intervention and is now ok (if not still a little tired).

Not at all belittling what this virus can do but it's nice to know it's not a guaranteed death sentence for everyone.

Hope it offers some reassurance to anyone anxious about themselves or loved ones.
