1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

one happy thread! finally!

I had mine. I felt really emotional. The nurses, admin staff, sciences, everyone who has made this possible.

Yes. I am so proud of everyone who has worked to achieve this. Just so proud.

It's not so long since people doubted there ever would be a vaccine at all, still less an effective one already being rolled out at such a speed.

There's a bit of joy and hope out there now thanks to all who have and are working so hard towards this end.

Great stuff!

We’ve now vaccinated 2,431,648 people as of yesterday. I’m looking forward to seeing the updated figure for today!

Great thread!
I have mine booked in for the end of the week (frontline NHS) and I can’t wait.
We are so, so lucky to have this. Well done to all the people involved and a heartfelt thank you.

buttery81 · 12/01/2021 19:39

The bad weather could be an obstacle, but I’m going to bet we’ll be at 3 million by the end of the week! Smile

The other good news is that we have now had three consecutive days where the number of positive cases is lower than it was a week earlier.

MaddieElla · 12/01/2021 21:18

I thought they were updating daily? Do we have an update for today?

This is the only coronavirus thread I'm reading on here. It is pure gold.

MaddieElla · 12/01/2021 21:20

Ahh just seen the total.

My department has started being jabbed. (Social care). It is really emotional.

GwendolineMarysLaces · 12/01/2021 21:56

Had mine this afternoon. Made me very proud of the hospital trust I work for, very well organised and a really lovely sense of camaraderie

buttery81 · 12/01/2021 22:39

@CoffeeandCroissant If I’m reading those charts right, our vaccination programme is currently the best in Europe... and the world!

I had mine today, a close relative who is front line had hers before Christmas and another relative who had Covid last year is enrolled in one of the anti body studies and he is still showing immunity, its been less than a year but it feels significant.
It's an amazing thing that is happening but there was a pregnant member of staff who I felt was being put right in the middle of things, the trust wouldn't be able to force her to do that? She would have chosen to be there? I thought a pregnancy risk assessment would have been carried out, so I guess it was seen as safe.
Three million by the end of the week sounds fabulous!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 13/01/2021 09:47

Oh Xenia - you really know how to poop a party!

Could you not post on one of the gazillion threads talking about the awfulness of Covid.

On a happier note - shall we have a sweepstake on when we think we will hit 3 million people with at least 1 jab? I vote Saturday 4pm.

(I have no idea how we will decide on what time it happened but I’m a mathematician so am sure I can “do a sum” and announce that that is the answer in a very confident voice. Grin )

Xenia · 13/01/2021 10:17

I am certainly not against vaccines whatsoever and am glad the UK is just about the most vaccine accepting country on the planet. It was just an interesting BMJ article.

I want as many as possible done so we can get back to normal

ReallySpicyCurry · 13/01/2021 12:40

Awk @Xenia shhh, don't be a killjoy now. Now you'll have to tell us something about your island, or how women should always make their own money, to make up for spoiling the fun.

(seriously though - I've repeated a few Xeniaisms regarding money, and the making of your own, to the teenage girls I've worked with)

thatgingergirl · 13/01/2021 13:14

My mum and dad were vaccinated this morning. Well organised set up - we drove in the gate to the site at 7.50 and out again at 8.40! I'm hugely grateful to all the staff and volunteers who are enabling this roll out.

Global chart is here, UK is #4 globally, highest in Europe per capita (followed by Denmark and Iceland).

Where can we find the figures on amount of people vaccinated?

Thanks for this thread op. I was feeling quite negative towards how slow they were rolling out but this thread has made me think otherwise!

My mum (a carer) had hers this week. I know of more people who have had the vaccine now than I do of people who had covid.

buttery81 · 13/01/2021 13:59

@Hapixmas no worries! Smile

You can view the latest numbers here:

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

They haven’t updated the numbers since Monday - I’m hoping for a new total soon!

Good old Asda, hopefully other supermarkets will do the same! C&P from ITV news website:

"Asda is set to become the first supermarket to offer in-store Covid-19 vaccinations which will offer 250 jabs a day, seven days a week.

The supermarket said it was chosen by NHS England to operate a vaccination centre from one of its in-store pharmacies in Birmingham and will be administered by qualified Asda staff.

Asda will transform George clothing section into a vaccination centre which will operate all week from 8am to 8pm.
Asda has said it is working with NHS England to assess which other sites could be used as vaccination centres and would support the use of the easier to store Oxford/AstraZeneca all of its 238 in-store pharmacies."
