1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Central Scotland here and 85 year old mum still not got an appointment!

Alfaix · 11/01/2021 17:12

I start as a vaccinator on Wednesday. So glad to be part of the team effort that will help end all this.

buttery81 · 11/01/2021 17:56

I’m just watching BBC News. It’s actually 2.3 million people who have received the vaccine now - 300,000 more than I thought.

Including 40% of over 80s!

So that’s 3.5% of the UK’s population now vaccinated. And I think (if I heard it right) they just said on the news that if we can get 30 million people vaccinated, that will reduce hospital admissions by 99%!

Very interesting link @CoffeeandCroissant - thanks for sharing. I’m not too good with graphs, but it looks like things will start improving in a dramatic way from around mid-March?

We need one of those vertical, light-up running-total calculators like Blue Peter used to have for their appeals in the ‘80s when we were collecting drinks cans or whatever.

Superb work, vaccination people!

Hopefully get a letter this week?

@buttery81

Middle of February for hospital admissions and early March for deaths.

I love this thread - I’ll chuck a vote in for a blue Peter style thermometer Grin

Thanks for those graphs CoffeeandCroissants. Pleased to see N.I ahead of the game for once Grin

buttery81 · 11/01/2021 19:13

From the interesting graphics posted by @CoffeeandCroissant, it looks like we’re 4th in the world in terms of vaccinations administered per 100,000 of population - only Israel, the UAE and Bahrain are ahead of us. Pretty damn good!

Let’s get to 3 million now!!!

Also, by the time we reach 5 million jabs (which shouldn’t be too far away), that’ll be 7.5% of the UK population vaccinated - almost a tenth!

Stop making statistics look sexy - I’ve been conditioned for the last year for them to make me shit myself Grin

And if you look at that as a % of those that need it (Phase 1) rather than the whole population it's even better!
Eaumyword · 11/01/2021 20:20

Grin Totally going to keep checking in on this thread.
When you start knowing people who have had the vaccine, that's when it starts to finally feel real.
My friend is manager at a care home (Midlands) and their residents got done today. Don't mind admitting to a tear or two.

Good post OP 👏👏

Ooo what an amazing thread. All the bitching and negativity and losing hope. And then when we all come together look at what we can achieve. Thank you to EVERYONE involved. I signed up to marshall but it takes 7 days to check me out apparently but the minute they do will get stuck in. So important. Thanks everyone. And so happy we will have daily updates. I want a Blue Peter ‘vaccinometer’ tooooo

buttery81 · 12/01/2021 15:24

Two people I know have now been vaccinated - one over 80, the other frontline NHS! Smile

Israel has done fantastically

You ask how? Israel's health service is free, like the NHS, but split into four competing Health Maintenance Organisations which vie with one another to be the best/fastest/most efficient. And, the population is a lot smaller and somewhat younger and possibly thinner on average than the UK's. And, while it's winter there too, their winter is more like late spring, and viruses don't like UV.

How did you sign up to Marshall. I wouldn't mind doing this on my days off but don't know where to start
