1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

If everywhere is efficient as the setting I went to today I have very high hopes of the vaccination targets being achieved.

This is great to hear!

Yes brilliant. I'm the harshest critic of government but they've been brilliant on getting vaccine out.

buttery81 · 11/01/2021 09:18

It really feels like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel now. It’s quite far away, but it’s definitely there!

And some more good news...

It's 2 million (400,000 people have had a second dose). Still good, just clarifying.

Brilliant. I can't wait for mine, should be before mid February I hope.

I've not heard of anyone near me who has had theirs yet, perhaps because we are rural, but I hope that means that when they do get started at our GP they will zip through quickly as not so many to do.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2021 13:46

It is brilliant!

How are the mass vaccination centres determining who will be vaccinated? i know the criteria - just not how they are identifying who to write to? Are they using the centralised shielding list for example?

Our post is currently running 4 days behind schedule - so that might delay things some.

Peggyslantern · 11/01/2021 13:48

Two million is a huge achievement. I'm very happy for everyone who is now protected (I know it's not 100% guarantee you won't get ill but it counts for a lot)

SophieB100 · 11/01/2021 13:51

@OhYouBadBadKitten
I think Hancock is going to set out how the centres will operate and other info about the rollout in tonight's briefing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2021 13:52

Great, thanks Sophie.

Fizbosshoes · 11/01/2021 13:52

Still lots of negative posts about it on MN though

The vaccine is one of the very few things in the last year Ive actually be impressed with the government about.

HUCKMUCK · 11/01/2021 13:55

@SusieBugandMe

I’m working 25 hrs a week on top of my normal job in our vaccine centre.

I cannot tell you how happy I am seeing the numbers rack up day after day. And the bloody happiness of everyone coming in to get their jabs. I’m not vaccinating just booking people in but it’s the first time I’ve felt happy for months!!

Me too. I worked in 2 places over the weekend as admin/Marshall and everyone was lovely. Hard work and knackering but totally worth it. Makes you feel proud doesn’t it?
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2021 14:03

Thank you, thank you everyone who is going over and above to get this out to us all.

WhyDoesItAlwaysRainMe · 11/01/2021 14:09

I had mine on Saturday and it made me quite emotional how everyone was working so hard to get this out

Eaumyword · 11/01/2021 14:10

So happy to hear this uplifting news in all the doom and gloom.
And yes, thank you so much to all those facilitating this process Flowers

Bathroom12345 · 11/01/2021 14:22

Some people just want to make it all about politics. It pathetic but Hancock has played a blinder ordering all these vaccines. Look at the mess that France is making of vaccine rollout. Have a meeting about the subject, then have another meeting to actually do what you talked in the first meeting.

If the vaccine is approved - GO GO GO. If people don’t want it then move on.

Phlicker · 11/01/2021 15:31

I agree it's so demoralising when everyone is so negative and blames the government for everything. Credit where its due.
Also everyone comparing us negatively with Israel. They are a tiny, tiny country with a huge very agile military. Good for them, it doesn't take away from the good news here.

buttery81 · 11/01/2021 16:40

2,000,000 - fantastic!!!!

I burst into tears of relief when my DD (ICU nurse) rang to tell me that she had just had her jab the week before Christmas! It was the best Christmas present ever. She should have her second jab end of this week (fingers crossed). I can totally understand why it is emotional.

mateysmum · 11/01/2021 16:46

Seems vaccine centres are using common sense too. My 75 yr old neighbour took her 80+ yr old husband for his jab and they said "We've got some spare would you like your jab". She jumped at it. I'd much rather this happened than chucking spare vaccine away.

buttery81 · 11/01/2021 16:49

@mateysmum really glad to hear that! I still can’t believe we’ve surpassed 2 million. It really is excellent. By mid February everything should be looking so much better!

Booked mine today for Friday! NHS worker.

Musicaltheatremum · 11/01/2021 16:55

@mateysmum that's so sensible. I refuse to throw any vaccine away. I'll be dragging people off the streets if necessary! We got our first 100 at work today and started booking them in from Wednesday. Giving 50 on Wednesday afternoon. Rest on Thursday and Friday. Also primed to receive 50 vaccines from a batch delivered to the student health center which has very few over 80s so we will get the balance this week I think. We have 300 over 80s

Wishing14 · 11/01/2021 17:00

Fantastic news! Any other country would shout it from the rooftops, what a great achievement and how proud they are, and so should we.

MrsBeltane · 11/01/2021 17:04

I've been at one of the mass vaccination centres this morning. It's been great to see larger numbers of people going through.
Hopefully more large centres are opening soon and we'll be able to give so many more vaccinations.
