1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

NHS staff to be brought forward in the queue, quite rightly www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/08/nhs-staff-in-england-to-be-offered-covid-vaccine-in-next-few-weeks

jasjas1973 · 08/01/2021 20:51

There was some speculation that Macron delayed the vaccine rollout in France because he was waiting for the French Sanofi vaccine to finish its trials - he wanted to support a French product instead of a British or US one

Yes, rather unhelpful speculation without foundation, as Sanofi won't be ready for months, if at all....
The french started the vaccine roll out same as any other EU27 country, the two main vaccines out there are UK/Swedish and US/German.

UK and Hungary used EU rules to procure and begin vaccination independently of the EMA/EU joint role out.

This thread has been hugely uplifting, thank you OP. I’m grateful to the poster who shared the link with the data on numbers vaccinated too.

Do you think we could update the thread regularly to keep spirits up?

@FourTeaFallOut

Right now you sound like a vaccinating Barry Scott *@mumoftwoinprimary*. But, in a few weeks, when we triple that you'll sound like a machine gun Grin

Work has been a bit rubbish today so I’ve been muttering regular “bam”s to myself to get me through.

More good news... we’re now vaccinating over 200,000 people a day!

200k a day is just incredible

@UseOfWeapons

Had my first vaccination this morning (frontline NHS). It’s the second day of vaccinations. Extremely well-managed, the whole thing, including the 15 minute rest after, took 45 minutes...form filling, seeing a doctor to ask you some questions, and the vaccination itself. Very impressed, and those working there said they have had an amazing uptake, lots better than flu vac, which is encouraging.

Yesterday, when I was wearing full PPE, the thought of starting this process gave me a bit a of a lift, as the past few weeks have been one long nightmare.

45 minutes per appointment? Crikey! I presumed it would be like the flu jab, where appointments are only 3 or 4 minutes apart, plus the 15 minutes waiting time afterwards. What on earth are they asking that takes 30 minutes per person?
SpnBaby1967 · 10/01/2021 19:08

I may have dreamt this but disnt JVT say that they thought the first dose of Pfizer gave 89% protection and 95% the second.

So it's great to delay the second dose and give more people 89% than fewer people 95%?

I'm really proud of our vaccine response so far. I did see Matt Wanksock saying any delays are down to manufacture rather than distribution as they have to literally grow the biological components of the vaccine and that takes time.

buttery81 · 10/01/2021 19:19

Me too. We must be at 2 million vaccinated by now? And it’s only onwards and upwards from here! If they hit the 13.9 million target by mid February (everyone over 70 vaccinated) it will be SUCH a moment! Come on!!

When slagging off the government they also forget about the money that was immediately pumped into new treatments / research at porton down / and the vaccine .

I know it has not all been good but many other countries have followed the conflicting scientific advice and have the same problems we have .

If we did not have the new variant we would be in a much better place and try as you might that was not the governments fault .

ReallySpicyCurry · 10/01/2021 19:32

DH is getting his second jab in a few days. My mum got her first on Friday there. That's 50% of the people in my family whom I was most worried about, now protected. Hopefully by the end of April the other 50% will be done and dusted too. I appreciate not everyone has been so lucky, but anecdotally I now know of more people who have had the vaccine than have had covid. That despite most of my family and friends working in the NHS, retail, and education. Everyone I know who has had the vaccine has commented on the quick and efficient rollout.

buttery81 · 10/01/2021 19:39

Great news @ReallySpicyCurry! Smile

use that sounds very long winded. 45 minutes?! I was in and out in twenty.
As a vaccinator I gain verbal consent from the patient. Takes a few minutes at most. Injection takes seconds. No forms to fill in. Not the best use of a doctor's time either surely?

Miljea · 10/01/2021 19:41

@blueangel19

Amazing!!!! So happy to hear!!!

Hey moaners and anti gov. Feel to compare to other countries.

But- Pfizer is supposed to be given in two doses, 3 weeks apart. Not 3 months, which is what my Trust is doing...

Can you direct me towards the stats that assure me this is safe?

SusieBugandMe · 10/01/2021 19:48

I’m working 25 hrs a week on top of my normal job in our vaccine centre.

I cannot tell you how happy I am seeing the numbers rack up day after day. And the bloody happiness of everyone coming in to get their jabs. I’m not vaccinating just booking people in but it’s the first time I’ve felt happy for months!!

WhistBl · 10/01/2021 19:49

People want to take photos, even the elderly!

When you hand over their little vaccine cards they are so pleased, it’s like they’ve won the lottery

BlueBaubles12 · 10/01/2021 19:49
Nothing is 100% effective.

Just to agree with the above, I think the government have been awful throughout but I’m really pleased with how the vaccine roll-out is getting ramped up. Really positive.

Fizbosshoes · 10/01/2021 19:52

My PIL had their 2nd jabs yesterday.

thatgingergirl · 10/01/2021 20:45

Miljea - I've no medical or statistical knowledge, but this opinion piece supporting the delaying of the second dose in the USA made sense to me. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/01/03/its-time-consider-delaying-second-dose-coronavirus-vaccine/

HappyThursdays · 10/01/2021 20:47

It's great news. Not only did our scientists do a great job in contributing to developing one of the vaccines, now we appear to be doing a great job of rolling it out!

I had mine today at my GP hub. I work in primary care and was rung by my boss this morning to say he was told there was availability and to ring and book. If everywhere is efficient as the setting I went to today I have very high hopes of the vaccination targets being achieved.
