1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Sorry, that should have said “5,383,103 people have now been vaccinated”.

I got a bit carried away! Grin

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Yes you might have to stand around in the cold so maybe a pashmina over the strapless evening gown?
Grin as long as heels aren't required.

This is just amazing news. Yet there are only a handful of posts on here following it yet complete all-out panic on every other thread.

We are getting out of this mess and I can't for the life of me figure out why people aren't happy about it and would rather catastrophise!

Nearly 6 million people and 400,000 in a single day is mind blowingly fantastic.

pinkpanther84 · 22/01/2021 18:13

Our local news (Devon) have just announced 2 mass vaccination centres will be opening on Tuesday in Exeter and Plymouth. Fab news, especially as at the moment our closest mass centre is in Somerset

CoronaIsWatching · 22/01/2021 18:16

The numbers only look good because they're not giving the vital second dose. I wouldn't call them vaccinated until they've had the second one done, well that's not going to be for months yet

mamaduckbone · 22/01/2021 18:16

What a lovely optimistic and cheerful thread. I may make a point of only reading this and no other news from now on.Grin

No, the numbers look good, full stop. Well above any comparable country.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 18:22

Given that we’re also number 4 on the league table for people who are fully vaccinated, whether you go by absolute numbers or percentage population, I would suggest the numbers are pretty good however you slice it.

MaddieElla · 22/01/2021 18:23

@corona we are not your people.

justoverthehorizon · 22/01/2021 18:33

I love this thread. .I have started to look forward to early evening just to read it. Thank you all!

bendmeoverbackwards · 22/01/2021 18:34

I love this thread too. I swing between feeling hopeless and depressed to feeling positive about the future. Think I’ll stick around here!

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 22/01/2021 18:40

How have I not seen this thread before?

I follow the whole vaccination roll out in a professional capacity and am thrilled every day to see that so many of my colleagues have been involved in this amazing effort.

If the supplies hold up it looks like we might even reach the target early.

Londt · 22/01/2021 18:44

400,000 in a day and over 5 million in total 🥳

Even the coldest doomster’s heart must be warmed by this news Grin

Just saw that Gibraltar have given over 20 doses per 100 residents, fantastic! Not sure what protocol they're following re timing of doses so I don't know how many people that translates to.

In other news, apparently their macaque population is being monitored for covid and so far seems mostly unaffected, and is also a lot less stressed that usual due to the lack of tourism Smile

psychomath · 22/01/2021 18:49

Oh, and my mum (retired nurse) has applied to become a vaccinator! Apparently the process is a ballache because she's lost her NHS number, but as she says, the program will go on for months yet so still plenty of time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2021 18:55

Thats great Psychomath Thank you so much to your Mum.

Im hoping there will become a point where those of us who are shielded are protected enough that we can repay by helping when others get tired.

One important topic for consideration is what do we think the new thread will be entitled?

MargosKaftan · 22/01/2021 18:56

Oh god how have I missed you little rays of sunshine! I was looking earlier and saying it was 7.5% of the population, but hadn't thought about % of adult population, how lovely!

And its the most vulnerable 10%! So obviously in 3 weeks or so when it properly kicks in, we should see a massive improvement. Yay!

Theres so much to be optimistic about!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2021 18:59

I'd estimate that we will need a new one on Mon/Tues. I'm guessing 6 million because I expect the pattern that occurred last week with the dip will reoccur again.

Yes I think we need to put up thread all over the place with false titles that will get people to click on them

The say sorry but look at these wonderful figures and show them the data

@psychomath thanks to your mum and good news about the macaques.

That’s very true. I think I read in the Times article which someone posted up-thread that the UAE (one of the 3 countries ahead of us in terms of vaccine rollout) isn’t prioritizing the vulnerable with their vaccination programme. I’m so glad we are.

If the supplies hold up it looks like we might even reach the target early.

Early, you say? Now now, steady on @WiseUpJanetWeiss!!! Grin
