1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

One important topic for consideration is what do we think the new thread will be entitled?

I will put my thinking cap on!

1 in 10.... I can’t get over how positive that is. What a day.

I feel this is the thread that will cheer with me. My dad has just been given an appointment for jab 1 on Monday. He's 70+ but CEV and I'm just bouncing that they've got to him. Not to my mum yet (70+ but no additional vulnerability) and it's made me even prouder that we're doing it by priority of need. Anyway, just wanted to share my joy.

buttery81 · 22/01/2021 20:00

@BedsorestoaSloth another positive story - that’s fantastic. Congratulations to you and your family!

Can you have vaccination numbers or population percentage vaccinated in the title

I think those that don't normally click on need to see it

EasterIssland · 22/01/2021 20:06

That’s amazing number about 400k! It doesn’t matter whether they’re 1st or 2nd. It’s 400k that are now partly protected or full! Only few days ago we only had a few thousand so this is really good!

Thanks all that are doing your job to get out of this as soon as possible!

Frazzled99 · 22/01/2021 20:20

I've decided to jump on this thread and stop reading the others. I've got a newborn baby, 19 month old and two school age step daughters and my anxiety and stress levels with all this are through the roof. 5 minutes of reading this thread I feel calm and optimistic. I took the positives from this evening's briefing but straight away got a panicking message from my mum and read far too many doom and gloom posts online. So now, I will be popping here daily to get a bit of your positively. Thank you all Smile

Just a thought, but if your mum goes along with your dad as support, there is a fairly good chance they will do her at the same time. Know several GPs and due to the number of no shows, they are frequently doing whoever is in front of them, and she is in the 70+ category anyway.

It's a numbers game and its also one less person to call and try and schedule.

buttery81 · 22/01/2021 20:38

Oooh, good point Starlit - it’s worth a try @BedsorestoaSloth!

Early, you say? Now now, steady on @WiseUpJanetWeiss!!!

😁😁 What can I say. I’ve had gin, and my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Not at the same time...

BedsorestoaSloth · 22/01/2021 20:42

I suggested it to them :-) she'll drive him anyway. But he's in the morning so maybe not so likely. Anyway, she'll be just outside the surgery in case...

Quite often, mornings are worse for no shows, no idea why. Doesn't matter when his appointment is, for example, if they are geared up to 50 an hour and 20% don't show, they have 10 spare slots an hour to fill.

I'll feel really bad now if she goes along and doesn't get it!

Let us know how they get on.

No they have jumped on the over good news thread and try to derail it

Some people will never be happy

kitschplease · 22/01/2021 21:25

I love this thread- thank you ❤

boys3 · 22/01/2021 21:28

Do we not just need to play with the first three characters of the conceptually perfect current thread title for subsequent threads? Grin

Now people will need to make a bit more effort in posting but is not the thread after next going to simply require shifting the decimal place one place to the right so 1.5 would become 15 million people vaccinated already - brilliant . With a possible addition of exclamation marks. At least three for 15 million

As for the actual next thread.....well the 1 will clearly need to change, but if the thread completion is timed well then 1 becomes 6 or 7 and either the 5 is left as is or changes to a 0.

Either way the rest remains the same aside addition after brilliant of !!

jcyclops · 22/01/2021 21:46

5.383m vaccinated with at least one dose is great.

We should now also be watching the numbers from 2 weeks previously, as the vaccine has little or no effect in the first two weeks.

The really good news is that by Sunday 24th, 2.287m people will be protected from the virus, having had at least one vaccination two or more weeks ago.

Good news from Israel on the impact of the vaccine on the over 60s. All still early, but really promising and seems to show that most of the impact is from the first dose of Pfizer/Biontech

Fantastic graph on there.
You can interpret it as an average of about 20 cases/day for the unvaccinated, and 6.5 cases/day after 21 days for those vaccinated with ONE DOSE. This is an effectiveness of almost 70% for one dose.

Eyewhisker · 22/01/2021 22:30

And even more effective in reducing hospitalisations!

MrsQCH · 23/01/2021 11:43

De-lurking to say thanks for the thread!

I had my vaccine today (frontline NHS), and whilst in the queue worked out that if they carried on at the same rate for the whole day they should be on track for 1000 doses today!
This was at a city hub for health and social care workers.

Keep up the good news!

Blessex · 23/01/2021 12:02

@Eyewhisker great graph. It mimics the Pfizer trial graphs after only one dose. That’s promising. Also shows how important it is to stay really safe 14 days after being vaccinated.

buttery81 · 23/01/2021 13:25

I’m looking forward to today’s figure... can we get to 5.7 million, then 6 million tomorrow? Grin

My dad took my mum for hers last weekend (in the morning) with his sleeve rolled up just in case and they did his as well. Definitely worth a try!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 23/01/2021 13:57

My next big thing is them getting to 500k a day. Once we get there or past I will sit back and relax.

It means all 9 priority groups finished in March not problem. Plus room to be doing first and second doses whilst still whizzing through the population

sofato5miles · 23/01/2021 14:43

Only 4% of the UAE's population os over 60 years old though, so targeting vulnerable ( usually age and other risk factors) has pretty much been covered in Abu Dhabi, in particular as you need a visa and medical to be there and only 11% of the population is indiginous..
