1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Can I just wanted to share a heartfelt thank you to everyone on this thread. I'm really struggling at the moment - almost a year of trying to keep positive is now failing. This thread is a beacon of fresh air and positivity.

Good to have you with us @shalalala. Today was particularly tough I thought, with the depressing weather and grey skies. But the daily vaccination number was a big boost this afternoon. I can’t wait until we get tomorrow’s - every day we get closer to the end of the tunnel!

I thought they keep saying it is 65 million?*

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum I’ve been basing my calculations on the entire UK population, which is 67,886,011 according to Google. But @CoffeeandCroissant is talking about adult population only I think. Is that 53 million over 16s or over 18s, and is the plan to vaccinate those groups or not I wonder?

OP posts:
CoffeeandCroissant · 21/01/2021 00:56

Yes, adult population only. UK adult population (18 and over) is between 52 and 53 million from a quick Google. Hancock has said there are no current plans to vaccinate children in the UK so I am guessing that it will probably be quite a long time (if ever) before children are vaccinated. (Apart from a few exceptions, CEV children etc).

buttery81 · 21/01/2021 09:50

Thanks Coffee.

It’s a lovely clear day out there where I am, after yesterday’s washout. Looking forward to a new vaccination update later today - I think we will be just shy of 5 million! Grin

Great to read that we're nearly hitting the 5 million mark! That's phenomenal. I was so angered by a post on another thread that I was tempted to respond but read this one to calm me down - thank you!

lunar1 · 21/01/2021 11:13

Vaccines per 100 people, not taking into account those who have had two doses so won't be completely accurate.

Is anyone else who is shielding literally jumping every time they get a text or the post arrives in case its an invitation? I'm going to have to calm down - its harder than waiting for christmas as a child.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 11:32

Yes, me Grin I couldn't even tell you how far along my area is and I still run to the letterbox like an excitable dog Blush

I hope you get an appointment soon, which group are you in?

So many people coming for vaccines haven't been out since March, It's so emotional when they have had the Jab.

QueenPawPaws · 21/01/2021 11:45

I'm wondering how long I will need to shield after the vaccine
It says "until further notice as we continue to assess the impact of vaccination among all groups" Confused

Londt · 21/01/2021 11:51

I’m gonna be conservative and say we’ll hit 13 million by 17th February.

2nd doses done by 10th March.

Then we have Mother’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, spring air, lambs, daffodils and longer days to look forward to.

Then we’ll all be in tiers 3 and above for Easter: chocolate, family gatherings, roast dinner and more chocolate.

That’s what I’m working towards Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2021 12:08

I'm group 4 Lunar. I've been doing some calculations based on local vaccine rates. We are behind the national picture, so I think that I've a wee while to wait yet.

It is going to be super odd to be with other people. I did have a hospital appointment this week and felt quite freaked out by there being other people in the waiting room. I commented to my consultant and he said that older people arent coming to appointments they need to attend - so I hope the vaccine helps them to be able to do that.

I might dress for the occasion with a little off the shoulder number. Both celebratory and quick to jab a needle in. Grin

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 21/01/2021 12:47

My area is finishing the over 80's this week and then starting on the next group.

That sounds lovely @Londt! January was always going to be the worst month, but we’re 2/3s of the way through and it’s only onwards and upwards from here! Smile

The woman that did mine said she does one every three minutes! And she does a 12 hour shift.
God bless her. Hope she doesn’t get RSI!

DH and I are NHS workers. We had ours on Monday. Slight sore arm for 24hrs but otherwise no symptoms at all.

Jinglealltheway22 · 21/01/2021 15:03

The nation wide letters for the mass vaccination centres were sent out this week for over 70/75 as MIL is 78 and got her letter

I'm in the Midlands and they called a week ago to vaccinate MIL at the local GP surgery.

So I don't think they've hit group 4 yet but hopefully it'll be there in the next week or so.

Tlollj · 21/01/2021 16:16

Slightly sore arm today but I’m buzzing. Next doors daffodils are up. I nearly cried when I saw their little yellow faces.

buttery81 · 21/01/2021 16:31

Update....

4,973,248 people have now been vaccinated up to and including 20 January 2021

This is fantastic and means there were 363,508 vaccinations reported for yesterday - our biggest total yet!!

And what’s more, 1 in every 9.3 UK adults has now been vaccinated!!

We can do this!!!

These numbers are incredible, I think it will help everyone through lockdown if we can see such numbers continuing.

buttery81 · 21/01/2021 16:34

Also, my prediction of 5 million by Wednesday evening was just out (by under 27,000 people). Congratulations to anyone who predicted 5 million by Thursday morning! Grin
