1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

Just been having a look at the data on the Zoe app again and made an interesting observation: on paper everyone is reporting that “cases are still rising in the NW and Midlands” - but this needs to be related to previous amounts of cases. In both of those areas, neither actually have as many cases as they did at the November peak according to the Zoe data, and the curve is starting to trend down already. So basically those areas aren’t actually in as bad as a position as they were in November.

Thanks for the chart - 5.3% is truly excellent. I’m feeling so positive...and it’s only onwards and upwards from here!

@OverTheRainbowLiesOz

Yes - I'd travel 100 miles if I had to!

I'm told it is a good idea to take a warm blanket for them as there can be a bit of a wait, so get your Great Aunt to wrap up warm *@Princess**. Also my friend says I will be allowed in with him to allay any fears.

Good tip. And good info thank you. I have been wondering whether I would have to leave her at the door. I did for the flu jab. It was also queuing outside no chairs for the flu jab Sad

You can see the upturn in the trajectory quite clearly I think.
Cornettoninja · 16/01/2021 18:06

@PrincessNutNuts, just a thought but if you’re worried your great aunt might struggle with standing for a long time then the Salvation Army used to hire wheelchairs out. I’ve no idea how they’re managing that kind of thing at the moment but it might be worth getting in touch with them.

PrincessNutNuts · 16/01/2021 18:06

@RedToothBrush

I am shocked I tell you that Trump has screwed the pooch for the American people. Hmm

I did wonder how Biden was going to do it.

I suspect the British vaccine task force made a lot of side deals to grab so much of the world's vaccine stocks so early - so perhaps a President who gives a shit will do the same.

I didn't know that, thank you for the tip.

She'd be fine if it was the short walk from surgery car park into the building and sit down, but if it's standing around waiting or not at the surgery we know, I had better be prepared.

The US did order 300 million doses of Oxford. However they are yet to approve it...

Feeling emotional here in a good way! My parents were called this morning and within 3 hours both vaccinated - they’re in their early 70s and my Dad has health issues but my mum none at all! Apparently nearly their whole village was done, it’s incredible

That's brilliant @Autumn101, it must be such a relief.

I know that in my area all the first priority group have been either vaccinated already or have been offered an appointment. They are well into appointments for the 75's now.

It really feels like we are making progress. We just need to be careful not to end up in the same situation as Israel, 25% of people have had a vaccine but numbers higher than ever because they relaxed too quickly, hopefully their new lockdown will show results soon.

So mum went to her local surgery. She said it was suuuuuper organised. Stewards all around directing people. In the dark and snow. She had to sit for 15 mins afterwards isolated and there were timers. Her local surgery vaccinated 700 people today!!!!! 700. This is a small provincial town in the middle of nowhere.

@buttery81 @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum yep even she was impressed and wrote to me elated. She said it was so organised. She was called this morning last minute. She said some people didn’t respond so instead of throwing away the vaccine they simply move down the list. She is 74. The usual is still happening. So my dad 77 is going in on Tuesday. But if there are slots and jabs and people aren’t coming - then instead of chucking the vaccine they are calling the under 75s last minute. We can do this !!!

Yes, it’s fantastic. Was so happy to listen to today’s reports from India where their programme has begun. The recipients were ecstatic. A rare ray of light in these difficult times.

Blessex · 16/01/2021 19:31

A bit outing here but the multinational company I work for has pledged one vaccine to the national effort for every two it buys for its employees and families. So say Bangladesh. Every two we buy for our employees there. We will buy one for the national government. Think of that when you are next buying products
