Anyone else know no one who has had covid?

Or maybe one person? The only person I know is my sister who was frontline NHS during the first lockdown on a covid ward, so pretty inevitable, got it and recovered within a few days in April.

Dd in nursery, parents own residential care homes for adults with learning disabilities, no staff/residents have had it (thank god).
Brother at uni. Big social circle with no cases.

Is it a possibility that some people are naturally immune to it? Can’t believe it’s been nearly a year and I don’t know anyone to have got it!

I've not had it and I'm a care Assistant in a care home. Had a outbreak of it and all this time still never had it

Cailleach · 06/01/2021 06:58

Only my parents neighbours. Otherwise, no.

Fucket · 06/01/2021 07:00

Well all I can say is that you obvious don’t live in the SE! If you’ve just been plunged into lockdown I can tell you, you will soon lose count of people you know who have caught covid. On the plus not many have ended up in hospitals but some obviously have.

DisgruntledPelican · 06/01/2021 07:00

No, although I know a few people back in March who suspected but didn’t get tested (wasn’t available) One in healthcare, one a university teaching assistant, one doing a busy London commute on several tubes.

SnuggyBuggy · 06/01/2021 07:01

I only know of friends or family members of a friend and they were only tested positive because someone was due to give birth. No classic covid symptoms so it would have been missed otherwise.

Fucket · 06/01/2021 07:01

Once it gets into your local area it’ll spread through it like wildfire (especially through those still meeting up when they shouldn’t)

GreenLeafTurnip · 06/01/2021 07:02

I know a couple from work but oddly they were working from home and no one who was working actually at work has had it! I'm not in the UK and our covid measures are pretty high in my building. I work in a lab with bacteria and I rarely get a cold since I started working there and someone has suggested it's because of where we work, we have a higher immunity to infections, be they bacterial or viral. Certainly seems to be true so far!

Ostryga · 06/01/2021 07:03

I’m in the East - so rife with the new strain. We did have very low cases up until about September though. Approx 600 per 100,000 atm.

I didn't know anyone in the first wave but I know plenty of people who've had it in the past 3 months including 2 colleagues who have tested positive in the past week

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/01/2021 07:20

My local area has gone from tiny numbers to 1600 per 100K in a very short amount of time.

Until mid-November I knew nobody local with it (I knew people with it elsewhere) but it's very different now.

bert3400 · 06/01/2021 07:24

I know of about 10 people who have had it and a work colleague died in the first wave . My FB feed is slowly filling up with people who now have it. I do wonder if more people have had but didn't have symptoms and had it before mass testing was rolled out

catfeets · 06/01/2021 07:36

I only know my stepdad who has it and he caught it in hospital. He will never recover as it's made his existing conditions worse. We were told 5 times he was definitely going to die, but he's still alive and improving.

My dad lost a couple of colleagues in the first wave and my mum seems to know a few people who have family members who have died from it. My DP and I both work for large employers and know no one who has had it.

Nochangeplease · 06/01/2021 07:43

I’m in London, work with kids and have 2 kids in school. So far I only know personally one person who’s had it.
There’s been a couple of kids in my teens secondary school and a few friends of my parents who I don’t know personally. Nobody in my family or close friends. Thank god.

Meredithgrey1 · 06/01/2021 07:46

Im in the south east and I don’t know anyone. I know people who know people, eg one of my mum’s colleagues, a friend of a friend, but don’t know anyone directly.

emmathedilemma · 06/01/2021 07:47

I only knew of people who'd had it until fairly recently but now 4 of my friends and colleagues have had it, one quite badly.

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2021 07:50

I've gone from hearing about a person every now and then (causing my son's to self isolate), to hearing about someone every day. Someone's husband, someone else's wife, two local friends, my aunt, my niece...

It's a noticeable speeding up.

MistyMinge2 · 06/01/2021 07:55

I didn't know of anyone in the first wave, but this time round a close friend has it and I know relatives of friends and acquaintances who have. Feels like it's really ramped up in my area (small town in the south west) in the last few weeks. I feel much more concerned this time around and for the first time throughout all of this I'm anxious about having to go to a supermarket etc.

Teandsympathy · 06/01/2021 07:58

I’m in the south east. I know one person who had it and he only found out because he had to be tested.

RickOShay · 06/01/2021 08:04

I’m in East Anglia. I know a lot of people who have had it. My fil died of it. I know 2 people who are lucky to be alive after having it, one is still tube fed, he caught it in March.
My best mate has just got over it, she’s a nurse on a corona ward. She’s relieved she’s had it. I know several people in my small town who have it now.
Cases here are rising fast.

nearlynermal · 06/01/2021 08:05

I personally know 4 people (one of whom caught it in March and has long Covid) and about 20 friends of friends, one of whom died, aged about 45 and a couple of whom have ongoing health issues.

Bohemiagirl · 06/01/2021 08:05

I'm in London and knew of several people last Spring. In the last few weeks I've heard about cases among people I know every day. Lots of people have it locally. I've heard of 3 deaths in the last week.

Goingtogetflamed · 06/01/2021 08:05

Me! I have it and I know quite a few in the North that have had it.

Housing101 · 06/01/2021 08:13

Loads of people both in the first wave and again now.

My aunt is on the conspiracy bandwagon and doesn't believe Covid is real and knows no one who's had it! She frequently exclaims on social media.
(Except for two of her nephews, a close friend, several neighbours, the teacher of her youngest who's husband has died of it).

RickOShay · 06/01/2021 08:15

My cousin and her family also had it in the spring, strangely not all of them got it though.

WalkingOnStarshine · 06/01/2021 08:17

I still don't know anyone who's had it.
