Anyone else know no one who has had covid?

Or maybe one person? The only person I know is my sister who was frontline NHS during the first lockdown on a covid ward, so pretty inevitable, got it and recovered within a few days in April.

Dd in nursery, parents own residential care homes for adults with learning disabilities, no staff/residents have had it (thank god).
Brother at uni. Big social circle with no cases.

Is it a possibility that some people are naturally immune to it? Can’t believe it’s been nearly a year and I don’t know anyone to have got it!

I didn’t know anyone until a few days ago (South Norfolk) now we know about 6!

Mcmole · 06/01/2021 08:20

I don't know anyone firsthand, although a few people that think they had it back at the start.

Newjobnewslob · 06/01/2021 08:24

I knew of one or two until a fortnight ago.

Now suddenly I know of about 10, including one who is teetering on the edge and unlikely to make it. South coast

Kazzyhoward · 06/01/2021 08:25

Didn't know anyone until a month or so ago. Now lots. Our neighbours all have it. A friend lost both her parents to it over Xmas (both were hospital in patients who caught it in hospital). One of my clients has just died from it (a healthy looking 40 year old). Another neighbour lost his wife mid December (another who caught it in hospital).

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 06/01/2021 08:25

In a few short weeks I've gone from hearing about one or 2 people with it that I didnt know very well eg postman to half my family having it plus work colleagues and teacher in local secondary school dying. I'm in Essex , pretty much everyone has it even if they dont know it .

Lexilooo · 06/01/2021 08:27

No one first hand who has had a positive test. A few friends of friends and Facebook acquaintances have been positive.

That's despite having a family member who works in a care home (her home haven't had a single case).

I work in a city that had the highest rates in the country a few months ago too!

Lyricallie · 06/01/2021 08:29

Not really, however I live in a very remote area. My mum's friend's daughter had it and she's a nurse. My doctor friends think they might have had it in the first wave but not sure as it was before proper testing.

Apparently 4 people have it in my work of about 2000 people.

nimbuscloud · 06/01/2021 08:30

Until last Sunday I didn’t know anyone personally. Now I know 3. All early 20s.

HelloDulling · 06/01/2021 08:43

I now know dozens of people who have had it. 7 people at work, several of DD’s friends, lots of parents as the DC’s schools, plus 8 of my friends.

Thefeep · 06/01/2021 08:45

I’m in the south east. I don’t know anyone locally who has had it. The two people I do know both live in London, one was back in March and one before Christmas.

SuperHighway · 06/01/2021 08:48

I only know about a handful of 'friends of friends' type thing who have had it, nobody I actually know, but I expect with this new strain that will change soon. I'm in Worcestershire.

gamerchick · 06/01/2021 08:51

I knew quite a few unconnected people who got it last year. The past month or so I'm suddenly surrounded by people having it. There were 3 ambulances in my street for 2 seperate houses a few days ago.

I'm far more interested in the people I went to school with who had it last march and 1 in august. They're still suffering now, fit healthy people who think about their breathing every day because it's so hard.

That freaks me out more.

Pinkiii · 06/01/2021 08:51

I was also someone who hadn’t heard of anyone having it and in the last week or so know of 4 people who have it now. Think we will be seeing it hit more closely to home now.

harknesswitch · 06/01/2021 08:51

I only know 1 person who's had Covid, 2 people at work appear to have had it but didn't have tests

Egghead68 · 06/01/2021 08:55

I know loads of people who have had it including me (London). I agree with you that some people might be more resistant to it though. For example only 30-40% of people who live with someone with covid catch it from them.

MargeryMcLatchie · 06/01/2021 09:04

@Nochangeplease

I’m in London, work with kids and have 2 kids in school. So far I only know personally one person who’s had it. There’s been a couple of kids in my teens secondary school and a few friends of my parents who I don’t know personally. Nobody in my family or close friends. Thank god.
If you live in London they reckon 1 in every 30 people now has a current infection. So you DO know people with Covid but they might not even realise it themselves. This is why this thing it such a bugger for spreading.
CookPassBabtridge · 06/01/2021 09:05

Personally only know 1 person!

Beefcurtains79 · 06/01/2021 09:07

I live in central London and don’t know anyone who has had it, or even a positive test.

AgainstTheCurrent · 06/01/2021 09:18

Is it a possibility that some people are naturally immune to it? Can’t believe it’s been nearly a year and I don’t know anyone to have got it!

Yes I daresay like every virus some may be less likely to get it but how do you actually know? Isn't it 1 in 3 show no symptoms? So in reality you could have had it but no symptoms or such mild symptoms that you didn't really register, that is why it is so challenging only testing if there are symptoms.

tootyfruitypickle · 06/01/2021 09:31

I live in SE bordering London and work in London and know no-one who has had it

BiddyPop · 06/01/2021 09:31

I only know 2 people - 1 a colleague in work last June, and another over the summer who still lives where I grew up 2.5 hours away from where I live.

But my office has been effectively closed since March, with only essential people attending (so very senior people regularly, and certain others as needed for dealing with things like urgent legislation or impacts of Brexit on business etc). So I have been in the office about 20 days in total since mid-March, and I am someone who is seen as having been in a lot!

And our area has been pretty low numbers generally compared to national averages, and even for our city - people are staying home, and have generally stuck to the rules all year.

But we have seen 2 ambulances in the past week taking people away from the bungalows at the front of our estate (both of which are occupied by elderly couples). And 2 family members (in other parts of the country) have had to be tested at different times due to close contacts (both negative).

Swingometer · 06/01/2021 14:19

Can I add that not everyone feels the need to advertise their covid status via social media

My DH had it over Xmas and while our close friends, family and colleagues all know, we haven't broadcast the information to everyone we know

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/01/2021 20:02

Guardian reports that when the ONS data is broken down by region the 1 in 50 is as follows:

London - one person in 30 infected

North-west - one person in 40

East Midlands - one person in 40

East of England - one person in 45

South-east - one person in 45

North-east - one person in 55

Yorkshire and the Humber - one person in 55

West Midlands - one person in 65

South-west - one person in 125

MattTebbutsForearms · 06/01/2021 20:10

Sadly I know 4 people who have died from Covid. One aged 92 who had previously had pneumonia. One 48 who was in the same class as me at school. No underlying conditions. My lollipop lady's husband. And my daughters great aunt.

I'm trying with all my might to keep myself safe as I'm 49 with severe asthma. Single parent to a 9 yr old. She's fucked if I end up in hospital, never mind die of it. Oh and I'm a carer for my Mum who is 76 with cancer.

Chimeraforce · 06/01/2021 20:12

My dad travelled to Thailand in Feb and had all the symptoms until about May. He struggled to talk and breathe and had the total exhaustion.
My 14 y. o was very ill and most of her classes were off in Feb. I was ill with symptoms in February.
That's it. South East
