Anyone else know no one who has had covid?

Or maybe one person? The only person I know is my sister who was frontline NHS during the first lockdown on a covid ward, so pretty inevitable, got it and recovered within a few days in April.

Dd in nursery, parents own residential care homes for adults with learning disabilities, no staff/residents have had it (thank god).
Brother at uni. Big social circle with no cases.

Is it a possibility that some people are naturally immune to it? Can’t believe it’s been nearly a year and I don’t know anyone to have got it!

I've had funny chat & emails from colleagues in last few days:

"It's really here now! My daughter's friend's cousin's dad has it!"

I gather there are 2 or 3 people I've met who have had it. They wouldn't recognise me if we passed in the street, so I still don't feel like I truly know anyone in UK who had covid... must happen sometime, I guess.

Flowersinthewindowstill · 06/01/2021 20:16

Only know one positive confirmed test (nurse friend.) I know a lot of people who think they may have had it in the first wave (myself included), but no test, so it can't be certain.

DianaT1969 · 06/01/2021 20:17

I don't understand your post. You say that you don't know anyone who has had it, but then say your sister has. 🤔
I bet if you ask your sister she'll know a few more colleagues who have.
This only shows that you don't have a wide circle of acquaintances, or that you don't live in a city or town affected. If I lived on a farm in Somerset, I might not know many either. As someone in zone 2 London, I probably know 15+ people who have had a positive test.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/01/2021 20:20

I just found out my Dad has tested positive. He is in a care home and currently not showing symptoms. But I have had to have the horrible conversation about if he gets seriously ill he can’t be hospitalised. Also my friend, her husband is going into a ventilator. These people are in their 60’s, not 80’s. This time it is so much worse.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 06/01/2021 20:26

I wish I didn't know anyone! 7 close members of my family all had it and on top of that MILs best friend died because of it and DP's uncle died because of it

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 06/01/2021 20:26

That was just after the 1st lockdown too

winterchills · 06/01/2021 20:31

I unfortunately know more people that have had it than haven't!

annonxx · 06/01/2021 20:41

I knew no one until the past week! Now 2 aunts 3 uncles and 2 friends have tested positive plus 1 of the friends children!

XenoBitch · 06/01/2021 20:44

My aunt had it.. and my next door neighbour. Don't know anyone else.

Chaiandkaafee · 06/01/2021 20:48

I know many people who have had it. Some have had no symptoms ranging to others who have died. Most striking were three men:

  1. My DF’s friend. In his early 60’s with no underlying conditions. Didn’t believe it. Continued socialising. Hospitalised and died in a coma.
  2. Our family friend. Early fifties. Caught it at his own DM’s funeral. No underlying conditions whatsoever. Died in ICU. His widow is early 50’s and utterly devastated.
  3. DM’s cousin. Early 60’s. No underlying conditions at all. Recovered quite well having been hospitalised. Was on steroids due to the damage it caused his lungs. One day out of the blue when about to be discharged he collapsed and died.

Now compare that to another family friend who is in his early 50’s who has been asymptotic and stick in his bedroom for a fortnight isolating! My DSis family have all had it. Flu like symptoms- were all wiped out but managed to avoid hospitalisation.

It’s like the heavens are playing a very cruel game with us all!!!!

If you read properly I say in the first line - “or only one?”

I currently live in a city where approx 1 in 45 are infected. My parents own 4 residential care homes with 105 residents and 50+ members of staff. No cases. No cases at my work (I’m in HR so I’d be the first to know) with 200+ employees.

Sorry about the typos! Asymptomatic!

QueenZoopla · 06/01/2021 20:54

I'm in Manchester, which has high rates, but I only know of 2 people who have had it. Which seems weird, and makes things all the more surreal

Icantstopeatinglol · 06/01/2021 20:57

I know roughly 20 just off the top of my head. Probably more than that. It’s rife now. I’m happy to be at home away from it all!

2021mumma · 06/01/2021 21:04

I know lots of people that have had it friends and family all over the UK but my household hasn’t - I sometimes wonder if we are the “lucky” ones that have had it but had no symptoms although we don’t really go out and buy everything online

wlv12 · 06/01/2021 21:12

I wish I was lucky enough to not know anyone.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 06/01/2021 21:13

I know one person and they were hospitalized. This was December. Not in my area tho. I don't know anyone in my area who has had it

Figgyboa · 06/01/2021 21:14

Me. I don't know anyone who's had Covid.

munchbunch12 · 06/01/2021 21:47

I know 1 person who's had it and they caught it in hospital (they'd been admitted for something competely unrelated). I'm in the West Midlands.

Runmybathforme · 06/01/2021 21:59

Just because you don’t think you’ve had it, doesn’t mean you haven’t had it. My DH had no symptoms at all , he only got tested because the whole of his family had it .

BiddyPop · 06/01/2021 22:11

I have to update my lack of personal connection to the virus - a local family, 3 of 4 positive. All doing ok though, luckily.

Spidey66 · 06/01/2021 22:12

Quite a few....about 15 or 20

Useruseruserusee · 06/01/2021 22:13

I know 10, all colleagues from work (primary school) and all in the week before Xmas hols. We are in London so I’m presuming so many at once were positive due to the new variant.

Poppydex · 06/01/2021 22:14

I only know 1 person who has died because of covid - she committed suicide on Monday night because of the latest lockdown.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 06/01/2021 22:19

That is so sad Poppy

Like you I know 2 people who have killed themselves because of the lockdowns.

I know one secondary school child who tested positive.
