Do you think construction workers of housing developments will be included in this lockdown or will they keep that going

ragged · 04/01/2021 17:01

What does a (totally non-essential) construction worker do?

I'd plan to never talk to my neighbours again if they were putting their noses so much in my business.

Purplespup16 · 04/01/2021 17:02

I predict the announcement is everyone in England will now be Tier 4, but primary schools will stay open at least 2 weeks so he can blame the public for not taking tier 4 seriously, by the end of the week there will be announcements that secondary schools will stay closed until the end of the month. That way it’s long enough people won’t say he’s copying Scotland/Wales/NI and long enough to blame the public for not taking tier 4 seriously.

It would make way too much sense to make any kind of announcement about Primary schools now especially as the NEU and Unison have been encouraging staff to invoke section 44 and not attend schools. If he makes any kind of announcement today it will look like he has bowed to Union pressure and Primarys as well as secondarys are not as Covid secure as they have been trying to convince himself they are.

Ilikeviognier · 04/01/2021 17:04

Wouldn’t it be madness to open schools for one day and then close them again though? I don’t get it if he does this- they shouldn’t have gone back at all. Incidentally I’ve had an email today from our school saying they are looking forward to seeing the children tomorrow...(today was an inset day).

nevernotstruggling · 04/01/2021 17:05

@HeronLanyon thanks - in a sense it could be much worse. We will in the practical sense but jut fine. I'm not at risk of losing my job. We are not cev in any way. Our experiences will not be unbearable in any sense. Im sad for the dds. Dd1 will be in bits.

Orangeblossom77777 · 04/01/2021 17:05

will manufacturing be closed and construction I wonder

Ihatefish · 04/01/2021 17:06

There goes the new year resolution of cutting out chocolate and dry January. Just asked DS if school said anything about what would happen if school closed. He showed me a book saying to be used in event of school closure. It’s a book of blank pages. Are school having a giggle??? Back to school courtesy of you tube then I guess.

Ant1966 · 04/01/2021 17:08

What an utter shambles. I know that there are difficult trade offs here, and things are moving rapidly, but I'd REALLY like to hear from ANYONE left in the UK who thinks this government is doing a good job, if they close schools one day after mandating that they should reopen as 'Safe'. The only thing stopping me from total despair is that, in their incompetence, they have unwittingly created great test and control groups of areas (with schools open and not) which should enable Data Analysts to quantify fairly exactly how many deaths their negligence has caused. So at least we can hold them to account this time.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 17:10

If England is anything like Scotland’s announcement. Then construction and manufacturing will still be allowed to continue. Infact NS has allowed anyone who can’t work from home to continue to go to work . Essential work or non essential.

ComDummings · 04/01/2021 17:10

@CrispySock

They’ll keep them going, too many other industries depend on housing construction plus social distancing on site is not difficult
Orangeblossom77777 · 04/01/2021 17:10

heading on the Times is

Johnson to announce new lockdown
PM hints secondary schools could shut for months

Great

Orangeblossom77777 · 04/01/2021 17:11

ok thanks Peppa

What can you do about childcare to go to work?
JamieFrasersSassenach · 04/01/2021 17:14

@Chickydoo

Is the 4th too soon to give up dry Jan! Bloody Hell this is a shit show! I have a yr 11 son, desperate that his education is screwed. My business is just hanging on in there having moved online. DH redundant. DS NHS frontline, elderly father isolating & slowly giving up due to loneliness. What a total nightmare. Lockdown 3 here we come!
I have deliberately put dry January on hold this year!
Derbee · 04/01/2021 17:15

@Lemonpiano

So, are posters suggesting LoudTree is the poster who was previously outraged about people buying honey or the one who suggested using cheese instead of milk in hot drinks?

There's been so much hyperbole none of it stands out to me anymore.

Using cheese instead of milk 😂😂 I missed this, but people are so hilarious.
Orangeblossom77777 · 04/01/2021 17:16

I think Scottish schools go back a week later after Christmas so not due back yet anyway

Benjispruce2 · 04/01/2021 17:17

I’d like Keir Starmer to replace him.

Peppafrig · 04/01/2021 17:18

@MarshaBradyo this I can’t wait for her to answer and I’m going to have three children under 10 to homeschool and my construction workplace is open .

cherrypie790 · 04/01/2021 17:19

I have no words.

Our business is fucked if we have to close the manufacturing unit down. We're already struggling with the retail area shut yet again, even though we are perfectly Covid secure. We have 2 floors, well over 2000 sq feet and were operating by appointments only with a space between clients for ventilation and cleaning. Yet shops selling utter shite like The Range and B & M can trade with people rammed in like sardines and supermarkets can hold you captive in queues?? Fuck the fuck off Boris.

riceuten · 04/01/2021 17:24

@Beebityboo

Says Peston. Predictions?
Peston has tweeted it

PM will be directly addressing the nation. It won’t be a press conference. Tier 4 restrictions will be imposed everywhere. Schools closed. No more team games in parks. But outdoor exercise will still be allowed.

Beautifulbonnie · 04/01/2021 17:26

We’ve gone from alert 4 to alert 5 for the first time ever

This will be full lockdown. No schools. Nothing open. One walk a day type thing. They reckon no household mixing at all.

tigger1001 · 04/01/2021 17:26

@Orangeblossom77777

I'm in Scotland and the kids were supposed to be back on wednesday. This was moved to the 11th but with online education from then until 18th at the earliest. This was moved to 1st feb at the earliest this afternoon.
elsaesmeralda · 04/01/2021 17:26

Don't get it? I honestly think he will keep primaries open. Why say only yesterday they were safe and then a day later close them? Yes I know this is boris we're talking about but still, surely even he knows that makes you look absolutely incompetent ??

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 04/01/2021 17:27
