@Beautifulbonnie

We’ve gone from alert 4 to alert 5 for the first time ever

This will be full lockdown. No schools. Nothing open. One walk a day type thing. They reckon no household mixing at all.

I imagine support bubbles will remain, as it's unlikely people will obey this if removed
Swearlikemalcolmtucker · 04/01/2021 17:31

@LoudTree I’ve come to the conclusion seeing your post on here and other threads that you’re a bit of a busybody tbh. You’re essentially suggesting he have his salary cut, he might not be able to afford that.
You don’t seem like you’ll be happy until everyone is sealed inside their houses like in China.

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 17:34

Maybe the construction worker is SE anyway, many are. And his neighbour keeps mentioning furlough Confused.

Love2cycle · 04/01/2021 17:36

Or the construction worker might quite enjoy his overtime... How dare he.

Wheresthebeach · 04/01/2021 17:39

I think Loudtree is having a laugh.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 04/01/2021 17:42

@elsaesmeralda

Don't get it? I honestly think he will keep primaries open. Why say only yesterday they were safe and then a day later close them? Yes I know this is boris we're talking about but still, surely even he knows that makes you look absolutely incompetent ??
Your answer is there, this is Boris, our PM, and he is incompetent.
trappedsincesundaymorn · 04/01/2021 17:43

@Love2cycle

Maybe he's trying to earn enough to move house...who needs neighbours like his, poor chap.
cheeseismydownfall · 04/01/2021 17:43

From BBC News:

"The prime minister is expected to announce a set of new national restrictions for England at 20:00 GMT, similar to the national lockdown in March, that he is likely to urge the public to follow from midnight.

It’s expected that people will be told to work from home unless they are a key worker, or it is not possible for them to do so, for example if they work on a construction site.

Schools will close again for most pupils."

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 17:46

This level 5. Is it going back to the traffic light system we saw for a few days to mollify us and pretend there was a plan?

Dogatetheleftovers · 04/01/2021 17:49

The traffic light system (aka Nando’s spice level) was swiftly abandoned months ago. Will it be resurrected?

Randomrebel · 04/01/2021 17:51

A neighbour in my street is a (totally non-essential) construction worker and has been asked repeatedly by myself, DH and several neighbours to go on furlough to reduce the risk of transmission to the area. He has refused hm

Loudtree Thank you for making me laugh! I was feeling very miserable 5 mins ago!

How many times is 'repeatedly'? Twice, Thrice daily?
I can't believe he said no the selfish bugger... :D

Wynona · 04/01/2021 17:52

I think Matt Hancock has done a good job. I was impressed by the testing process, the NHS tracing worked well, I felt I knew what to do when I got a positive result. First county to produce and vaccine for about $3 a shot and not making a profit. Well done. I would like more publicity on the importance of taking vitamin d.

As for the school closures: do they really have a choice? We really cannot have hospitals with no capacity. Closing the schools surely has to happen.

I would like to know what is going to happen to GCSE and A'Levels. Some schools have not had their mock exam yet, however others took them in November. I am not sure how it can be fair. Repeat the year perhaps for anyone that did not get the grade they were expected to. Perhaps group chidden by ability rather than purely on their age. Would that work?

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 17:52

Grumbly Grin

Grin Could use it as a drinking game. Take a shot everytime Boris says...
shelvira · 04/01/2021 17:54

Secondary schools are already closed this week to all but keyworker and vulnerable children, so I guess he can announce that this week primary school children will also be at home. It will be interesting to see what he says about next week when secondary schools were hoping to have their Year 11s in. A lot of them had mock GCSEs tabled for next week. If Year 11s can't do their mocks, then what can their final grades be based upon if they are unable to do their actual exams come the summer? Or maybe the government are banking on them being able to do the actual exams with robust and well-rehearsed covid testing facilities in schools by then.

Benjispruce2 · 04/01/2021 17:55

No we don’t have a choice over school closures. But we do have a choice about being honest with the public and going in Sunday TV and telling the public schools are safe when about to perform yet another u turn is shambolic! He has to go.

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 17:55

I agree that MH seems to be doing a good job.

People forget that he may be health secretary in a public health crisis but he isn't PM. He doesn't get to say what shuts, the tiers and schools etc.

He's sandwiched between 2 complete incompetents. If you listen to him he often agrees about shut downs and things slyly without actually voicing against BJ.

Jaypreen · 04/01/2021 17:55

My heart goes out to you cherrypie. Small businesses make up 80% of our economy. It's fucking disgraceful what this idiotic, fascistic government are doing to us.

GhostPepperTears · 04/01/2021 17:57

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

It's tree lined and so not the sort of area one might expect to find common illnesses like this one

@GhostPepperTears Exactly. It'd be much more befitting for the residents of your street to suffer from gout Grin

If you've naught gotten gout, we want you out!

That's our motto Grin

This really tickled me!

One suggestion is to have sniffer dogs at schools to 'sniff out' covid. When I tested positive I was contacted by a research team looking into this. I am hoping my smelly socks have helped. If they can get this to work this could solve the school problem as the results would be immediate.

If you test positive, I would encourage others to take part.

Wynona · 04/01/2021 18:03

For anyone that likes to follow the evidence (wherever it leads) this is one of the best sources I have found.

Take Vitamin D.

This works now and some other countries have started to use them for airport detection (incoming passengers). Better success rate than the actual tests, last I saw.

It just takes so long to train up a dog to do this accurately....

there needs to be a new slogan, ooh, wonder what it will be this time?

No. More. Tiers
