To think an announcement must be imminent

Just that really. With the opposition leader calling for a national lockdown within 24 hours, cases rising, parents and school staff not knowing what's happening, people crossing tiers for legitimate activities like work in non essential retail etc. It's just not going well is it?

If BJ and his lot want to recoup ANY legitimacy and governance they need to pull their fingers out. Bloody hell, at least do a presser and tell us what they're thinking/planning.

The lack of communication is I think what irks most of us. Constantly up in the air.

Tell us you bastards 😠

I don't think so. Not yet. Feels a bit scary really, like there's no one at the wheel.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 16:40

I wish they'd go back to daily briefings, at least then we kind of knew when to expect announcements.

I can't see them doing an announcement today.. I think they'll leave it a week or two until cases and deaths get even higher Confused

Stellaris22 · 03/01/2021 16:40

Our primary has thankfully given up on waiting for an announcement and told us they aren't opening next week as they can't guarantee safety.

It's ridiculous making no announcements and expecting everyone to wait. Glad our school is proactive.

BathFullOfEels · 03/01/2021 16:41

I think the kids in Tier 3 areas will go back to school for at least a week before they do another lockdown

Which tier are you in? 4?

SeldomFollowedIt · 03/01/2021 16:43

This is the worst I have ever felt during this whole pandemic.

I’m lost for words now.

Allispretty · 03/01/2021 16:43

Why the hell does anyone want daily briefings back? For god sake get on with your lives until we no longer can again for whatever period!

It's pretty obvious something is coming but to be sat on the edge of your seat waiting for a press conference is bloody madness!

Me too, and I've been pretty petrified throughout. It feels like it's getting a bit out of control.
StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2021 16:44

Kids in tier 4 are going back too!

MrsWhites · 03/01/2021 16:44

I’ve given up waiting for an announcement, Boris would rather let children and teachers get ill or die before he’ll look like he’s backing down to the unions. I’ve made the decision to not send my children in this week, tier 3, will take my chances with a fine!

whatshalliget · 03/01/2021 16:44

Wasn’t his non announcement on the Andrew Marr show today?

Schools are safe blah blah things might change waffle waffle...

MrsCalypsoGrant · 03/01/2021 16:45

@Stellaris22 I've just had the same message from my DDs primary. I'm in Tier 4 in the north. I'd already decided to pull DD out (underlying health condition specific to the virus) & I gather lots of other parents had made the same decision. The school lost three very long standing, valued & professional members of staff late last year, they just didn't feel safe at work.

That’s totally how I feel. Like BJ and the posse think just because a vaccine is coming they can just wave that at us and not do anything. Idiots the lot of them. I’ve never been so ashamed to have voted for a PM in my life.
covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 16:46

Because it affects people's lives? Whether they'll be able to work if the tiers change suddenly etc..

Noellodee · 03/01/2021 16:46

No, rather than be seen to back down today, Johnson will force a few additional days of the totally unnecessary mixing of millions of potential spreaders, before bowing to the inevitable.

TeaandHobnobs · 03/01/2021 16:47

Given he was on Andrew Marr this morning, I don’t think he will announce anything different to what he said then today.
I also somewhat suspect he won’t capitulate to what Kier is saying either 😠
So if there is an announcement, I’d expect it to be either Monday night, or Wednesday... which is obviously too late to avoid the impact of those schools going back tomorrow.
Lots of local social media buzz where I live - people are clearly very worried (and we are not in one of the currently worst hit areas either)

Can you not see outside your own household and imagine some others might need to plan ahead?

Totally agree

Exactly. Interesting how he wouldn’t say whether he had read the report warning of mutations in the winter. Also interesting that he didn’t know how many doses of Pfizer vaccine we have.

This is what he will do. It's been the same every time.
inquietant · 03/01/2021 16:49

I also feel worse - it is because the government are trying harder to pretend it's not happening I think!

Egghead68 · 03/01/2021 16:50

He did indicate on Andrew Marr that restrictions are going to get tougher. He wouldn’t give examples of how this might happen.

Stellaris22 · 03/01/2021 16:51

We are Tier 4 in East Anglia. It's bad when schools have to do the governments work for them and take charge.

Makinglists · 03/01/2021 16:53

I kind of assume BJ will make an announcement tomorrow - usually about 5ish. My money is on a months lockdown ie all areas tier 4 with a tier 5 crested for the areas with the highest rates and in these areas schools close. We are in Tier 3 but fully expect to be T4 by midweek. Our numbers are low compared to others but rapidly rising. Schools in areas like mine will end up closing by default because staff refuse to work/are ill/so many kids are Self isolating. We shouldn't have to be second guessing though decisive action is what is needed.

Same. Nothing is making sense to me this time. They keep reacting when it's too late instead of acting to stop it getting too late!
