To think an announcement must be imminent

Just that really. With the opposition leader calling for a national lockdown within 24 hours, cases rising, parents and school staff not knowing what's happening, people crossing tiers for legitimate activities like work in non essential retail etc. It's just not going well is it?

If BJ and his lot want to recoup ANY legitimacy and governance they need to pull their fingers out. Bloody hell, at least do a presser and tell us what they're thinking/planning.

The lack of communication is I think what irks most of us. Constantly up in the air.

Tell us you bastards 😠

Feels like the government have lost momentum completely and running to catch up.

I feel weirdly in denial about it all this time like it's not happening - not sure if that's good or bad.

AvoidingRealHumans · 03/01/2021 17:03

Tier 4 here, one of the 3 essex boroughs that schools were open still and have not long had a message saying they will be shut for 2 days while the county council seeks clarity on the situation.
Understandable but extremely short notice for those of us due at work in the morning.

AlwaysLatte · 03/01/2021 17:03

Why the hell does anyone want daily briefings back?
Well given the speed at which things change, due to the lack of ability of BoJ to forecast accurately, it's quite useful to have them!

Orf1abc · 03/01/2021 17:09

The daily briefings are helpful in one respect (that the government then at least have to appear to be doing something), but the amount of gaslighting is horrible for anyone that has experienced abuse.

Katkincake · 03/01/2021 17:09

Just got messages from DS primary school that they've decided to close for at least a week. We've only just moved up to T3 from 2. It's going to be hard workwise to explain / negotiate reduced working for both of us when it's not universal throughout the country and down to school choice, neither of us can be furloughed. Hope they act more decisively soon.

ArabellaScott · 03/01/2021 17:10

@Beebityboo

I don't think so. Not yet. Feels a bit scary really, like there's no one at the wheel.
Cummings is away.
whatshalliget · 03/01/2021 17:10

Interesting how he wouldn’t say whether he had read the report warning of mutations in the winter. Also interesting that he didn’t know how many doses of Pfizer vaccine we have.

Yes, he doesn’t “do” homework @Egghead68, preferring to treat everything like a joke.

UntamedWisteria · 03/01/2021 17:13

He made it quite clear on the Andrew Marr show at 9.30 that schools would reopen.

If he's going to do another U turn, he'll wait until tomorrow at the earliest, I reckon.

Allispretty · 03/01/2021 17:13

@covetingthepreciousthings

It's pretty obvious something is coming but to be sat on the edge of your seat waiting for a press conference is bloody madness!

Because it affects people's lives? Whether they'll be able to work if the tiers change suddenly etc..

If you're a key worker you will still have a school place for your dc if your not a key worker your business will close and you will be furloughed what planning do people need to do?

WankPuffins · 03/01/2021 17:14

@SeldomFollowedIt

This is the worst I have ever felt during this whole pandemic.

I’m lost for words now.

Yes. And I've been very level headed throughout. Despite being pregnant and giving birth last year.
Allispretty · 03/01/2021 17:15

Or will wfh I should add, I can't understand why people are so desperate for an announcement! Something is obviously imminent until then why would t people rather just get on with their life's

3littlewords · 03/01/2021 17:17

I'm in tier 3 school have confirmed they are fully open tomorrow for now

Indecisive12 · 03/01/2021 17:18

I really don’t think there should be a national closure of schools no. My area has the lowest rate it’s had since July! Why should our schools shut now?

It's pretty clear Tiers don't work, in fact it's been clear for months. Johnson is currently using the new mutation as his scapegoat for rising cases, despite being warned of it in September.

Are you usually so unable to empathise with people worrying about uncertainty with home, school and work?
MichelleofzeResistance · 03/01/2021 17:19

Bodge Job only ever does handbrake turns. Full ahead at full speed into a 180.

Drogonssmile · 03/01/2021 17:19

We're in NW tier 4 and had a message from school saying they will be open on Tuesday as planned. DH and I are keyworkers so DS'd be going anyway but at least we know what's happening so far.

JanuaryChill · 03/01/2021 17:20

Do both of you need to reduce hours? Would one of your employers be more open to a negotiation that the other?

Same here Sad

The government has lost control of itself. Nobody knows what the hell is going on.

Hijoso · 03/01/2021 17:23

I've seen it said on another thread and agree - he wont want to be seen as agreeing with the opposition, and I highly doubt he is going to do a big turnaround now.

Either way with the unions getting involved I don't think the teachers are going to be giving him much choice - if someone feels its unsafe to go to work due to a pandemic, but are willing to work from home, how on earth can you penalise them?

CountessFrog · 03/01/2021 17:24

I’m back to musing at use of language.

So many are ‘petrified’ and ‘terrified.’

This is an infection that’s mild for most people. What on Earth will you all do if there’s ever a pandemic of something like the bubonic plague? Because so many people are already at full throttle

Decembersnowfall · 03/01/2021 17:25

@Allispretty

Not everyone is furloughed if they’re not a key worker. There’s a single parent on another thread who works in furniture manufacturing, not a key worker and their workplace has never been busier so absolutely no furlough on offer. They are totally stuffed for childcare options with their kids school closes.

Equimum · 03/01/2021 17:26

I do really hope it is imminent, but have little to trust left in BoJo.

Our children are due back to a small school in Tier 4 on Tuesday. Several local schools have already said they will be doing online learning from Tuesday, or have called emergency inset days for tomorrow, so they can decide what to do. It all feels very confusing and we have no idea what is happening. DH says we keep them off, but I’m hoping g they’ll be shut before they return!
