How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

Thanks @cathyandclare

Can I ask, has anyone been able to log into their Sterling account? I've now done the Oxford module and ready to upload the training report but I've had no links from Sterling (other than the initial one for background checks, which is now a defunct link).

As ever, no one on the NHSP chat available and Sterling are engaged....!

HildegardNightingale · 12/01/2021 14:51

@Toddlerteaplease I think you’d need to do your adult resus tbh. More relevant than preventing radicalisation to be sure.

HildegardNightingale · 12/01/2021 14:52

@goldpendant cathyandclare is correct. The Oxford module is straightforward and shouldn’t take up too much time.

goldpendant · 12/01/2021 15:03

Yep I've done it, 100%

What I can't seem to do is access the Sterling account to upload my training reports as requested by NHSP.

Grrrrrrrr.

scousemouse13 · 12/01/2021 15:03

@goldpendant I was just coming back here to ask the same thing. Nowhere to put it!

scousemouse13 · 12/01/2021 15:07

I can access the Sterling account but it just says thank you it is completed. All the previous certificates were uploaded during the background check phase. Let me know if anyone comes across a solution.
Meanwhile I’m sure I read or heard that they have recruited 80,000 vaccinators which is excellent but it isn’t clear how many are actually currently doing the role. Does anyone have the figures for that?

goldpendant · 12/01/2021 15:12

I've just had an email back from Sterling. NHSP are tracking the additional module and who has done it, and Sterling not involved in providing records of it to NHSP.

All sounds v strange and a bit worried that because I did 'first round' of recruitment will somehow fall through the cracks. They seem to be asking new applicants to upload the training record as one document rather than all the individual certificates, which is the main difference.

What a waiting game.

HildegardNightingale · 12/01/2021 15:17

@goldpendant isn’t it just. I’ll give my first vaccine when I’m 100 the rate this campaign is going.

TheDogsMother · 12/01/2021 15:21

I applied via NHS Volunteer Responders though it was for the Patient Advocate role (sign posting, record keeping etc). Had an interview within an hour where I was having to think of suitable examples to scenarios on the spot. It was only afterwards I received an email confirming my interview time and telling me what type of questions to expect Confused. Anyway I passed that stage, submitted all my DBS info via Capita then was contacted by SJA for DBS info so they've doubled up there a bit I think. Completed the health screening then received the link to all the training materials. This was all in the space of a couple of days of initial application. Soon after I received an email saying "unable to offer you the role of Volunteer Patient Advocate due to the results of your health screening". The only thing I reported was mild, managed asthma and sinus issues so I can only assume it was that.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2021 15:24

@HildegardNightingale we do a quick bit of adult when we do the paediatric one. Radicalisation is fortunately covered on my mandatory training.

StellaOlivetti · 12/01/2021 17:31

@goldpendant I got the same email this morning I think. I worry also I’m going to be somehow missed because I did the first, over complicated, round of e-learning.
@HildegardNightingale you and me both. I’ll be dead of old age at this rate.

scousemouse13 · 12/01/2021 18:32

@StellaOlivetti
@goldpendant
I’ve had an email from them to say don’t need to do anything as will be asked for evidence of the Astra Zeneca module at a later date.
Back to waiting then.

goldpendant · 12/01/2021 18:35

That's great @scousemouse13 - did you email them? Was that from NHSP or Sterling?

Olympicfan · 12/01/2021 18:38

DD got this email this morning

As you may be aware, last week, after much consultation between various partners across the NHS family, the decision was made to simplify and streamline the application process for the National Vaccination Programme. The intention is to make it simpler for candidates without compromising the quality and rigour of the training and compliance process which has been designed to ensure that all new workers joining the Programme are trained and onboarded to an equivalent standard to current employees.

  • Following the authorisation of the Oxford University/Astra Zeneca vaccine by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), all candidates will now need to complete the associated training. You can access information about this additional course in the training pack by clicking here.

So another module to do before face to face training starts... that is if DD gets offered a job in the end!

I hope after all this training they don't say "thanks, but no thanks."

cathyandclare · 12/01/2021 18:42

I just got a similar email from SJA, previously we had to download all certificates the. they were checked snd signed off during f2f training. Now need to email everything too inc the extra course ( already signed off too)

scousemouse13 · 12/01/2021 18:59

It came from Sterling @goldpendant. I hadn’t contacted them but I did log in this afternoon from the original link to try to add the extra certificate.

rosiepaul · 12/01/2021 19:20

I'm part of two NHS Trust Nurse Banks. I've also emailed NHS England Covid recruitment team. I'm a first level registered nurse, a trained vaccinator with up to date BLS and anaphylaxis training. Up to date with all the dull training too. I'm also experienced in ITU care although will need a refresher period. I have management and leadership experience and could easily manage a large number of teams to deliver the vaccines safely in either local huns or regional centres. Cant get either Trust to move their backsides and put me to use As there are 'procedures' and they will be in touch. I'm not Beverly Allitt I promise so that's not the issue! A nearly 30 year unblemished nursing record. It's very frustrating as I don't know what else to do to help outside of my normal frontline job

goldpendant · 12/01/2021 19:28

Ah I've had the same email now from
Sterling, seems like it's in hand..... 🧐

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2021 19:36

rosiepaul, how frustrating, yet sadly not remotely surprising. People are desperately trying to help and being ignored even when more than qualified. I wish I knew what the answer was.

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2021 19:48

Actually if you are already on the bank could you contact the ITU departments’ managers directly and see if they want you? They can then speak to the bank for you. Although even that may well not work.

rosiepaul · 12/01/2021 20:28

It's an enormous multi site Trust so I wouldn't know who to contact specifically but it's not a bad idea.
TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2021 20:56

Facebook could be your friend! To try to get some names, obviously not to contact managers over.

It is ridiculous and annoying though and yes, may well be impossible if it is a huge Trust.

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2021 21:00

I think the trouble is that individual departments are quite understandably just firefighting and it is painfully obvious that the infrastructure is not in place to deal with enquiries from staff wanting to help.

Unfortunately this means that many staff who could walk in to roles (with the appropriate safety and experience checks of course) are ignored while departments struggle on without enough staff. Will get off my soap box now!

Frazzled2207 · 12/01/2021 21:01

this thread is massively putting me off! Have an application in with SJA and nhs jobs now and not been asked to do any training as yet. Bracing myself.

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2021 22:14

So amazingly I have finally managed to get some links to the training sent to me evening. This is after me asking and asking and finding the right person to speak to. I only managed this because I know enough staff in the area to ask around and I know the system. My official application is still stuck at the stage of having had an automated acknowledgment only. They have said I can start the training in the meantime as they do want more vaccination staff (in my area anyway), despite the best efforts of the system to turn them away!
