How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

@Peachyqueen excellent news
Last I heard was I had been successful and had completed everything I needed just waiting to hear from trust lead so this fills me with hope still.

Very pleased for you Smile

Well at long last .... started this process in January... did my final obstacle today which was the two hour practical training. I actually really enjoyed it. We were told that as soon as this training is uploaded we can go onto the roster and book shifts, but there won’t be much going until the end of May/beginning of June due to vaccine shortage. I will be a band 5 so mostly assessing and drawing up rather than vaccinating, but that’s fine. What a mission it’s been (for all of us).

HildegardNightingale · 29/04/2021 12:41

@StellaOlivetti I have been working as a band 5 at a vaccination centre since mid Feb. I was retired and came back on the COVID register. I do 30 hours per week. I am absolutely loving it. We’ve just been asked to extend our contracts until September which I’ve done.

StellaOlivetti · 29/04/2021 12:53

I’m so glad you’re enjoying it @HildegardNightingale! I’m still working but am retiring next April. Really hoping I can do what you do eventually. Did you have to practise on an orange for the practical session? Took me right back to 1988!

HildegardNightingale · 29/04/2021 13:14

@StellaOlivetti no they had silicone upper arm parts to practice on. I was well impressed. Remember practising on an orange as a student nurse in 1981 though!!

StellaOlivetti · 05/05/2021 18:07

Hi I’ve just finished the moderna module on e/lfh and I can’t seem to find the quiz at the end, without which I can’t get the certificate to send ... I’ve clicked on everything! Any ideas, clever people?

StellaOlivetti · 05/05/2021 18:18

Don’t worry! I’ve figured it out! I’m an idiot!

PineappleVision · 06/05/2021 13:28

I’ve never worked for the nhs before. I’ve just finished my online training and have now been sent online access for booking shifts. I’ve had no face to face training. Any one else experienced this? It doesn’t seem right. 😕

StellaOlivetti · 10/05/2021 16:32

I have, at last, reached the end of the application process and have booked my first shift.

HildegardNightingale · 11/05/2021 12:51

@StellaOlivetti good luck!! Flowers

Frazzled2207 · 11/05/2021 17:24

really pleased to hear that some people managed to jump through all the hoops! no such luck here but I have done a couple of shits for SJA now (not vaccinating) and pleased to get involved finally. Am pleased I didn't do the extra training to be a vaccinator for SJA because hardly anywhere (at least in the north west) is allowing volunteers to be vaccinators. So lots of people have done the vaccinator training in their own time to basically not be able to vaccinate.

Torvean · 11/05/2021 19:57

As an ex nurse qualified in 2001. My first injection practice was on a person.

TimeTarroganStrife · 12/05/2021 11:39

Just came on to say don’t give up hope!
I retired as a RGN 3 years ago and joined the temporary nmc covid 19 register in November, so I could help with the vaccination programme.
I applied through NHSP and did about 20 online modules, got as far as occupational health questionnaire and received my DBS check ok , but was told few months later that I was no longer required.
Anyway I then applied for a Registered Health Care Professional Immunisation post through NHS jobs website and I’m starting as a band 6 clinical supervisor, next month. Good luck everyone!

HildegardNightingale · 18/05/2021 13:46

Have you done your shift yet @StellaOlivetti? If so how did it go?

StellaOlivetti · 18/05/2021 13:54

@HildegardNightingale. Thank you for asking! Really well, thank you. A late shift on Saturday, very busy and a lot of fun. Have booked another shift this weekend. How are you getting on?

Torvean · 18/05/2021 14:14

Congrats @StellaOlivetti that's fantastic.

I left the nhs around 2012 due to health issues. So I didn't know that I could do something like this.

HildegardNightingale · 18/05/2021 14:43

@StellaOlivetti we are very busy! I’m going to up my hours from 30 to 34.5 so 3 long days 8am-8pm. That’s if the nhs says yes. I am really enjoying it. The camaraderie is fantastic at the centre I work in.

StellaOlivetti · 18/05/2021 15:28

I hope you’re enjoying the vaccinating @Torvean? I am finishing my NHS career in April, and quite honestly it can’t come soon enough. What I like about working in the vaccine centre is the absence of drama, and insane paperwork for the sake of it, and pointless meetings, and hideous management speak. I don’t mind working hard, but I hate all those things!

Torvean · 18/05/2021 17:58

I've not nursed for about 9 years. I'd really like to get back to something care/first aid etc

I didn't sign up to vaccinate. I've been part of a vaccine trial though.

jannathehut · 05/07/2021 22:39

Hi, just wondered if anyone has done any shifts at the Etihad in Manchester?

Do you get scrubs on arrival or do you wear NHSP uniform?
