How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

I'm a community nurse in a community based trust but am on the bank for the nearest teaching hospital, fully imms and vaccs trained with recent anaphylaxis/BLS training.

They've got jobs out at the moment for bank vaccinators which I was going apply for but you have to commit to 20 hours a week! I'd happily do a day a week as I work 8-6 but I can't fit 20 hours in alongside full time.

We at my workplace can't believe we're not being approached to help anyway. I know there's storage issues with the Pfizer vaccine in the community but we feel like there's barely any forward planning going on to actually mass vaccinate once these hurdles are overcome with the subsequent vaccines.

@FudgeSundae

So my DH applied on SJA and it says the next stage is to select an interview time but the calendar doesn’t seem to show any options. Anyone else had this? Is it just there are no available times right now? Will they appear - do we need to keep checking? Thanks in advance.
Just had exactly this. So frustrating. I got an email with another email address to message with queries so have emailed them to ask. Have you had any luck yet?
Frazzled2207 · 12/01/2021 22:59

@FudgeSundae
oh the automated response saysI
f your email is regarding the ability to book an interview, we are experiencing a very high level of applications and working hard to add new interview slots. Please check back on the candidate portal vaccinationregistration.sja.org.uk/login every 48 hours as additional slots are being made available.

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2021 23:27

Orangelover it would be worth keeping an eye on the bank job advert. The ones near us were advertised as a minimum number of hours a week and staff had to be available to work 24/7. There must have been feedback from people applying (or not as fitting them in around another job would have been very difficult) as now the hours they want are much more flexible and realistic.

Thanks- we’ve been checking daily but nothing yet!

My colleague has sucessfully applied and is doing 2 days from next week.

m0jit0 · 13/01/2021 08:41

Sorry to jump on this thread- I have an interview for a vaccinator job today. Can anyone share what questions I might be asked? Trying to prepare myself!!

goldpendant · 13/01/2021 10:29

I was asked what I'd do if someone said they felt ill after having the vaccination.

And the only other q was about my background, my qualifications and experience.

cathyandclare · 13/01/2021 10:36

I got an email from SJA saying congratulations on becoming a vaccinator, your lead will be in touch when we're ready to start vaccinating. I have horrible visions of never hearing anything more, a but like the great NHS returners effort!

cathyandclare · 13/01/2021 10:37

a bit like

HildegardNightingale · 13/01/2021 10:54

@cathyandclare I know that feeling!!!

m0jit0 · 13/01/2021 10:54

Thank you @goldpendant that's helpful. Smile

Frazzled2207 · 13/01/2021 12:10

@FudgeSundae
there are some slots for tomorrow up there now

Thanks but all gone by the time I saw this! 😱

goldpendant · 13/01/2021 12:36

Yep I've got a feeling our services aren't going to be needed by the time it takes to get through the system!

cathyandclare · 13/01/2021 13:01

I know of lots of friends/colleagues in the NHS (consultants, nurses etc) with full time jobs who are vaccinating in their spare time at the moment. I think there's a burst of enthusiasm and spirit of the blitz, also people vaccinating are more likely to get the jab if there are DNAs. That's not sustainable, so I think we're more likely to be needed as time passes.

I actually got a reply to my NHS application, Immuniser / Vaccination Clinic Support Worker ( I aimed for one which didn't require professional qualifications, because I've been working in non clinical areas for a long time). It was just a query about contracts and availability but at least they've opened it now!

scousemouse13 · 13/01/2021 13:53

@cathyandclare I think you are right so many of my colleagues on substantive are doing it on days off and others on a 3 month secondment from usual roles but longer term that just won’t work. Especially when usual jan/feb pressures plus Covid new variant starts to snowball here. It’s only just beginning to in my area.
I go through phases of thinking I will never be contacted again as I’ve fulfilled the government’s initiative to recruit and then another day thinking that this is a long term programme and it’s all hopefully being processed slowly in the background and I will get to do it eventually.
I held off booking other work for this month foolishly thinking I’d be busy vaccinating but have booked plenty of work now.

MabelMoo23 · 13/01/2021 14:19

I’ve been asked to pick an interview slot. But nothing there???

I guess I just wait then and see how often the slots pop up!

KarmaKhameleon · 13/01/2021 16:00

.

Chardonnay73 · 13/01/2021 17:35

Training day on Saturday....😱

goldpendant · 13/01/2021 18:31

@Chardonnay73 is that through SJA or NHS?

goldpendant · 13/01/2021 18:31

And congrats! Exciting!

Chardonnay73 · 13/01/2021 18:53

Through SJA. I finished my online training yesterday, my references were contacted today and I had an invite to book the training session this afternoon which is on Saturday in my nearest town.

MrBeagles · 14/01/2021 13:56

Hello all, I've been quietly watching this thread since the beginning of the month and didn't even know non-clinicians could be vaccinators.

I have experience in (academic) health care and so have applied through the SJA and NHSP route. I'm fit and well, and have time as I'm generally a SAHP and want to do my bit.

Anyway, SJA interview tomorrow but as others have said, NHSP is SLOW. I've applied, submitted the video interview on 2/01. Since then I've had an email to ask about health. I've sent stuff back ASAP, then nothing.

Great to have this thread. Keen to hear how others are getting on.

Frazzled2207 · 14/01/2021 16:00

People who have had SJA interviews - I have mine finally on monday - how does it work technically? Do I get emailed a link? I have not been emailed anything and can't see anything on the portal other than my time.

@MrBeagles - same here with NHSP except you're further along than me. Done the video interview and not a whisker since.
