My area was 155 yesterday and tier 4 today. Our local hospitals had capacity because were taking patients from the midlands and SE.

@Redbrickwall - spot on about the meaning of lockdown!

Gingerbreadfeeling · 30/12/2020 19:30

There are loads of exemptions to tiers at all levels which is why it just doesn't work like March lockdown. We have two tier 4 exemptions just in my little family: all education open - so I still commute to work although i am not a schoolteacher, and elite sport open - so we continue to drive DS to training 4 times a week, 50 mile round trip. Too many exclusions and exemptions, not to mention open schools, mean the tier system just doesn't achieve its objective at any level.

We should have curfews like other countries

Why? How would a curfew change anything? Serious question, I really can’t think why a curfew would improve anything

If anyone wants to quickly and easily check the cases each day in their council and the councils in their county, I publish them from the govt daily data release on www.covidmessenger.com every day.

Click the county column on the table on the homepage to see the cases in all the councils in your county - tiering decisions do seem to be almost entirely at county now so viewing all councils across the county is particularly helpful.

Interesting also to see the massive "drop" in cases on Dec 25th - I guess many were reluctant to get tested on Dec 25th along with likely some delays to test turnaround times given being wedged between public holidays. So the "drops" in cases on Dec 25th are without a doubt not indicative of what is truly occurring on the ground. We can also see this from the preliminary cases data for Dec 27/28 where cases trend right back up again.

I don't know, it's not like there is anywhere to go anyway with pubs/restaurants etc shut 🤷🏻‍♀️ unless it's to stop people drinking in the park in groups?!

And no - I don't read the Daily Fail lol - someone sent that to me.

The hospital shortages are terrifying (apart from pillows. Pillows are like gold dust in our hospital and we don’t even have covid)
QueenOfLabradors · 30/12/2020 20:27

Curfew might help with the large numbers of teenagers who wrap up warm and invade the picnic area down by the river. They have always done this, but in the past the PITA was only the ridiculous amount of rubbish they left behind.

Why are still people blaming kids

Everyone’s at work!!! I mix with far more at work than my kids do and everyone I know says they can’t distance at work

Really annoys me that pepppe blame kids all the time

Cases were sky high when schools were closed for months!!

To be fair though - I have two DC in different forms in high school. Apart from their own forms, they mix with kids from different forms in different subjects, so between the two of them, they mix with probably about 80 households every single day. And that's not counting the teachers.

Not much social distancing going on there.
