Kate and William

This is not a Kate and William bashing post. I actually really like them, despite everything, they actually seem pretty normal and look like a lovely family. But they are in the press on a Christmas walk (Sandringham estate, but a public event) with Prince Edward and Sophie's family. With the kids it makes 9. I thought their official residence was Kensington so they are from a Tier 4 area! Also children in England DO count towards the total of 6 (it's only under 1s who don't). It's not just them, it's all the celebs in Dubai or the Maldives as well. It's not right that my kids can't see their cousins for a Christmas outing. Tier 2 Christmas events have banned families from Tiers 3 and 4 visiting. No wonder we see less cooperation as time goes on, a year in a child's life is a LONG time to be cut off from loved ones.

So if Tracey and Dave from Essex (sorry to stereotype names) decided to take their 3 kids out of school when in Tier 2 and travel to their caravan in Great Yarmouth, it would be ok? They then go on a public Christmas light trail in Norfolk where Dave's uncle is with his wife and 2 kids and happen to wander along with them. Well within their rights but by god you wouldn't see the justification for them on here, they'd be called selfish twats for spreading the virus. It's no different.

I thought this too.

Dongdingdong · 22/12/2020 10:04

Good on them I say. Like most sensible people, they probably know that the chances of catching the virus whilst outdoors and keeping your distance are practically zero.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/12/2020 10:05

They left when the kids broke up from school so well before T4 existed.
They were apparently given consecutive slots and depending on what photos you look at, they are spaced out. The front shots look like they're all walking close together but the side shots show them seperated out.

There's nothing stopping families booking tickets for the same thing as long as they keep their distance

OllietheOwl · 22/12/2020 10:05

Children under school age don’t count if you’re outside. So I can go and meet my mum for a walk with my two DC. Four people, but we only count as 2.
It’s the same rules as the last lockdown.

OP said it was a public event though? In which case it was a public engagement.
If both families are staying at Sandringham, they could be seen as being from the same household.[/quote]
A public event of which plebs can attend if from
tier 2. Not a royal public engagement where they address the plebs to tell them how wonderful it is to see them there for their 'mental health'.

They do attend public events in a personal capacity, much like they walk the streets, go to a park, or ride the train north in a personal capacity. It's only a public engagement if they are officially engaged to attend.

If official photos emerge of them pointing and cutting a ribbon I'll stand corrected.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 22/12/2020 10:08

OK read the article and it's made more sense than OP's paraphrasing. It was a public attraction. Both William and Kate and Edward and his family attended separately. They passed each other and stopped for a socially distanced chat. Christ knows that there has been plenty of times when I have been out and about, seen some people I know and stopped for a chin wag. The other alternative was blanking them and walking past like I didn't know them.

Tracey and Dave would have pulled their kids out of school early, Kate and Will didn't. Tracey and Dave are more likely to also be popping into the local town and shops that Kate and Will who have a big garden to walk around in. And people clearly have continued to holiday in the UK where they are able. And as long as they keep their distance from Uncle Dave and his kids, it's no different to anyone else being there
rosy71 · 22/12/2020 10:09

It was a ticketed public event. They had each paid for family tickets. Other people were there too, presumably having also paid for tickets to enter. It involved walking around some sort if lighted trail.

They got a bit of a pasting for visiting Scotland too.

XmasLama · 22/12/2020 10:16

I can see how bumping into a relative could happened but don't the Wessex's live in a tier 4 area anyway? So that's inexcusable really

Fieldofyellowflowers · 22/12/2020 10:20

@XmasLama

Unless they moved to a tier 2 area before tier 4 was announced like William and Kate did? It is inexcusable if Edward did leave a tier 4 area for this event but that is not William and Kate's fault. And this thread was set up to have a go at William and Kate.

ADMum20 · 22/12/2020 10:21

As has been said before. K&W travelled to Norfolk after their kids broke up, before it went to Tier 4. No rules broken there.

I can’t imagine they actually planned to meet E&S given they were in a public place and it was absolutely inevitable they’d be photographed.

donquixotedelamancha · 22/12/2020 10:24

Agree, it’s incredibly insensitive and shows how out of touch with the real world they are.

Their great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandma's cousin conquered Britain. Are you are suggesting that doesn't make them special and above the rest of us?

Every moment of William and Kate's life is planned out for them. The only time they ever meets anyone below wealthy upper middle class is if they are serving them or have been prepped on how to speak to them and what to do when they arrive. If they go to a poor area the bits of the building they will visit are specially decorated in advance and every footstep planned out.

How could they be anything like normal?

Tiquismiquis · 22/12/2020 10:27

They travelled before tier 4 (I suspect anyone else would have done the same in their position) and I know full well lots of families will have done similar by stopping for a chat. Obviously if you add in the security protection you’re well above the 9 but the photos show them socially distanced, not hugging etc. It probably says that they are more normal than anything else. If two family groups had accidentally met up, I best most people wouldn’t be keeping the children from talking to each other.

Softpebbles · 22/12/2020 10:49

If they had ignored one another there would have been more hoo hah in the press about a Royal family falling out. They were at the same event, so be it. They all look to be pretty well spaced out in the pictures anyhow.

ChloeDeckTheHalls · 22/12/2020 10:51

It’s not just on William and Kate though-surely this is also on Edward and Sophie?

SleepingStandingUp · 22/12/2020 11:04

@ChloeDeckTheHalls

Noooooo he's heir to the throne and she's some upshot who trapped him. It's all on them unless there's a way to blame H and M.

Wait. H & Am brought them the tickets for their Christmas present to catch them out

Calmandmeasured1 · 22/12/2020 11:09

It was a public engagement that the Wessexes (from tier 4) attended so is a work commitment.

They arrived separately to the Cambridges who are in tier 2 at their Norfolk home so can mix outside as a part of a group of 6. The Telegraph reports that they 'appeared' to be together at some points but were not (a bit like how some of the press made it look on the beach and in parks in the summer). The two families were given consecutive slots on the Woodland walk and it looking like they were mixing as 9 was inadvertent due to the nature of the walk and some bottlenecks.

QueenStromba · 22/12/2020 11:37

@Dillo10

They are the royal family The normal rules do not apply, no matter how much you hope they do
The Queen saved up ration coupons to buy the material for her wedding dress. It's only her useless descendents that think the rules don't apply to them.
JobRetentionScheme · 22/12/2020 11:39

I like them and think they represent the country well.

BUT THIS WAS WRONG ! It was clearly planned and even though they were in separate ticketed groups they should know better.

Even in lockdown they enjoy a privileged life so they don’t need to do underhanded meet ups like this !

It feels entitled like Dominic Cummings and his Barnard Castle trip !

Mamamia456 · 22/12/2020 11:40

Sleepingstandingup - You sound really nice, and how did Kate trap him exactly?

Honeyroar · 22/12/2020 11:40

It is completely thoughtless and insensitive to post pictures of them at pantos and walking with big groups of relatives when the rest of us are having to make difficult choices. They should be able to work that out.

Mamamia456 · 22/12/2020 11:41

They were given consecutive slots by the organisers before it was open to the public, which makes sense.
