Where did you read that?

justgeton · 20/12/2020 21:39

Atm freight isn't allowed out... but surely they won't come if they're not allowed back

Ohbabybab · 20/12/2020 21:41

Fuck knows. I’m not sure how much more I can take!
Trial run for non real Brexit I guess...

Ohbabybab · 20/12/2020 21:42

Cobr meeting in morning has been called

Mamamia456 · 20/12/2020 21:42

It's only France that have said that for 48 hours. We will still have freight coming from other countries so no need to worry.

Artus · 20/12/2020 21:43

Just when you think things couldn't get any worse.......

Ohbabybab · 20/12/2020 21:43

No deal!! Not non real

TheRubyRedshoes · 20/12/2020 21:44

Armageddon.

They said only 48 hours. It's a very worrying development. However, there are other options to get us food and medicines if need be. I guess planes could do drops ect. But it's concerning.

JamieLeeCurtains · 20/12/2020 21:44

no need to worry

That's a tad, erm, delusional, if you don't mind me saying.

titchy · 20/12/2020 21:45

Get to supermarket early tomorrow.

justgeton · 20/12/2020 21:45

And panic buy? Oh no please...

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 20/12/2020 21:46

We would really be in the shit if they have to do food/medicine drops

Almost everything which comes by truck comes via France even if it’s from other countries

I might be missing something but surely if we can’t get road and rail freight from France then the only option is air freight which is much more expensive
WhoWants2Know · 20/12/2020 21:48

Officially they've said 48 hours. But the same BBC article said from the French perspective it was until further notice.

How bad is this new strain, really, for everyone to ban flights from the UK?

Is there any chance that it will be under better control before Brexit kicks in?

Parker231 · 20/12/2020 21:48

Cobra meeting chaired by Boris tomorrow to discuss the freight problem.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/12/2020 21:49

It's going to be quite rocky but please don't risk your health to panic buy.

How does almost all the road freight from Europe get here @Mamamia456 ?

The answer is through Dover.
We're in a huge mess now, deep in the shit.

Theotherrudolph · 20/12/2020 21:50

It’s not only France, although I don’t think it applies to unaccompanied freight.

I should imagine an emergency plan will have to somehow prioritise food, medicines and essential goods (water purification chemicals for example) either as unaccompanied freight or by military aircraft, we will have to wait until Europe realises they almost certainly already have it too anyway (it’s been around for months and most prevalent in Kent....), and it’ll probably be Brexit deal leverage. There will be disruption to supplies, but they’re disrupted anyway and going to be worse under Brexit.

justgeton · 20/12/2020 21:50

A full lockdown now surely. We have to get this under control as soon as we can. In the absence of any other ideas surely there's no choice

Browneyedgirl20 · 20/12/2020 21:51

Oh no this seems really really bad?

Mamamia456 · 20/12/2020 21:51

JamieLeeCurtains - Course it's not delusional. We're not going to starve. The worst thing that people can do is to start panic buying.

TheRubyRedshoes · 20/12/2020 21:52

Boris has looked at really well worried in past days, very deeply in thought and he's usually quite chipper.

We have however very many more means to get through this. We are a spoilt western nation, many more countries in the third world deal with awful things every day.

We will survive and get through...

The cynic in me says it's an opportunity for a negotiation tactic over Brexit. The French give the British public a taste of what No Deal will be like and a weak and panicked government thrash out a deal before the end of next week.
TheRubyRedshoes · 20/12/2020 21:53

User, same, but if that's true then I'm sure he could be hauled up to crime against humanity court! (macron).

So I doubt it.
