Anyone know? All I can find is Matt Hancock to announce 'later'.

UnseenDoreen · 17/12/2020 10:32

11:30 apparently, so probably 2pm rollseyes

Ginfordinner · 17/12/2020 10:32

I read that it is likely to be at 11.30

Sirzy · 17/12/2020 10:33

He is speaking in parliament at 11.30 so it should be on time

Honeyroar · 17/12/2020 10:34

It’s driving me mad, the delay. I need to know whether I’m working tomorrow (depends on whether we drop to tier 2 in Manchester).

Oh, thanks Mumsnet! I'm glad I asked because I couldn't find it. Suspect our area will be moving up to tier 3 (and I support that but still want to know!!)

OP posts:
Ginfordinner · 17/12/2020 10:46

I think we are staying in tier 3 TBH (Sheffield/Barnsley)

southeastdweller · 17/12/2020 10:47

I’ll be surprised if any areas drop a tier.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/12/2020 10:53

So would I. I saw a pub yesterday getting ready to open (setting up in a marquee outside) and a restaurant I follow on FB is taking bookings, but in reality, even though the cases have dropped in our area, dropping from tier 3 to tier 2 would go against yesterday's message about a small Christmas if people are going to be able to go out to pubs and restaurants, especially seeing as so many people will lie about households or use workarounds to get past the substantial meal requirements.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/12/2020 10:56

On the timing of the announcement, if previous announcements are anything to go by, they'll start talking about it at 11.30, waffle on for a couple of hours inserting confusing snippets of information about 'parts of county A will move from tier 2 to tier 3, while unspecified area B will drop to tier 2. The full list will be published on a website this afternoon and will be up for a minute or 2 before crashing.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/12/2020 10:59

BBC are saying now that Lancashire has been told it is staying in tier 3, which doesn't give much hope for similar northern areas that have dropped a lot in the last few weeks and/or has vastly different types of area and number of cases, from crowded urban areas to rural parts with hardly any cases.

This is SO accurate. Grin

I am in a middling sized town where all the surrounding areas have low numbers, about 90 per 100k, but my town is about 220 per 100k, well above average of 165 per 100k. What do you think the chances are of us going into tier 3 while everywhere around us stays at tier 2?

LadyCatStark · 17/12/2020 11:09

All of Lancashire in tier 3 again 😡. Although to be fair, it sounds like it’s the council’s fault this time.

MassiveSalad · 17/12/2020 11:13

Lancashire staying in tier 3, and likely that Greater Manchester will too.

Utterly disgusted with this now.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 17/12/2020 11:21

I hope they get a move on an announce soon rather than waffling on and on

TragedyHands · 17/12/2020 11:21

Yes, I just read that Lanc and Manc are expected to stay in tier 3.
It was pretty obvious, whitehall hate us lot up here.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/12/2020 11:22

Of we don't get the reward of moving down to T2 then where's the motivation to comply

Gobacktothe90s · 17/12/2020 11:29

I'm in Tameside which had high rates from sep till nov. We have dropped dramatically and figures are below England average as are other greater Manchester boroughs.
Our placing compared to other local authorities is 281 out of 315 so we are very low case rate compared to other areas yet greater Manchester is going to remain in tier 3 .
This does not make sense. How much lower is Manchester expected to drop before they release us from tier 3?

Honeyroar · 17/12/2020 11:29

I think the motivation is having a NHS that can cope.. Much bigger than Xmas really. And the loosening of rules over Xmas itself.

Henlie · 17/12/2020 11:29

But wasn’t everything online at 11:30am when they set the tiers two weeks ago? I’m kind of expecting to be able to see everything by midday.

We’re in East Sussex here. Highly expecting to go up into Tier 3.....😏

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 17/12/2020 11:32

I thought south yorkshire may go down to tier 2 but numbers have gone up slightly so it'll be tier 3 until after Xmas now.

Signaturesoftheworkers · 17/12/2020 11:33

Yes last time the tiers started being released prior to 11.30 Matt speaking. It was actually quite punctual. I'm waiting now....
