New thread as I got worried the old one was going to run out of space!

Is there a time that the announcement would be made by if it was going to happen?

Bathroom12345 · 27/12/2020 21:59

I suspect they might call a briefing. Hancock wont want to miss this one. Briefings tend to be mid afternoon. It’s not as though we have anything else to do.

OrangeBananaFish · 27/12/2020 22:00

Let’s have a pact that we won’t be too disappointed if it isn’t tomorrow....

I don't know if that is possible. Not long and I'm going to check out the front pages (whether anything more concrete will be on there I don't know, but it can't hurt). Fingers crossed.

MarcelineMissouri · 27/12/2020 22:07

Tomorrow is a bank holiday though. So I’d be thrilled if it was tomorrow but I’m going with Tuesday or Wednesday.

As if Bojo won't want to be the one giving that news 🤣
Bathroom12345 · 27/12/2020 22:16

Good point re Boris although Nadhim should be there too.

I am not religious at all but a small prayer wouldn’t go amiss methinks.

They don’t want too long a gap between announcement and roll out so I guess Tuesday/Wed might be possible too.

TeaInTheGarden · 27/12/2020 22:39

Tomorrow’s pages are saying approval in days.... so I’m going to try not to get my hopes up too much for tomorrow. (Yeah right!)

I'm putting my money on Wednesday, they'll package the good news with the news that several more areas are going up to tier 3 or 4 and schools will close in tier 4 areas. That's my prediction..... do I have a glittering career as a fortune teller ahead of me?
tobee · 27/12/2020 23:48

Wednesday!!!??!! That's ages!!!

FuzzyPuffling · 28/12/2020 07:58

It's still on its way. Nil desperandum. I wonder if the govt are crossing the Ts of distribution before any announcements as I think there might be uproar if they say " yes it works, just wait 10 days or so while we sort logistics".

I woke up several times in the night ( thunder was responsible for some of that) and put the radio on, just in case.

The best Christmas present we could have got was a call from my dear mother-in-law on Christmas Eve to say she had received a letter to confirm her first vaccine appointment the first week of January.

Not only will she be protected, thankfully, it also made the light at the end of the tunnel so real and so tangible. We are nearly through this nightmare. The vaccine really is here and it is being rolled out.

Ridcully82 · 28/12/2020 08:17

I have found my people:I am also unreasonably disappointed no news this morning. Logically I know we can still get all in place to start chucking out 100,000 a day from the 4th,but fed up of being ECV. Want to take junior to the zoo, and better half out for coffee, and a night away 😁

FuzzyPuffling · 28/12/2020 08:25

Hello Ridcully82.

My DH is CEV and I'm CV and the wait is indeed very frustrating...it feels as though we've had a lot of extra restrictions and are generally a bit forgotten about.

If I have one small hope about new variant, it would be that as it infects a broader spectrum of society, we might stop with the "well people who die from covid only had a couple of months to live anyway". No sign of that yet!

But we keep buggering on ( as Churchill had it) and the landscape will begin to change for us soon.

I'm cev and I just want to send the kids to school without spinning the wheel of fortune with what they come home with. Roll on group 4.

chri55ie · 28/12/2020 09:14

Do you think it’s been approved and they are sorting out the logistics behind the scenes or do you think they are still genuinely waiting to hear re approval? I can’t quite work it out

Crumpetycrump · 28/12/2020 09:16

I don’t think MHRA approval for the Oxford vaccine will be announced by the government at a press conference - the MHRA are independent if the government. Today is also a bank holiday so unlikely to hear anything today or tomorrow I think. Hopefully later this week though... 🤞

Agree, there is nothing to stop the news being announced - I doubt the government can enforce that. I would hope that they are working on bank holidays though, given the urgent nature of the review!
FuzzyPuffling · 28/12/2020 09:22

I did hear "Thursday" earlier this week, so perhaps that is V Day.

goldpendant · 28/12/2020 09:27

Either way we can safely assume that this is THE week, we've waited for what feels like aaaages - let's try to be patient, it will come!

I'm waiting for them to update the omni calculator vaccine date predictor with Oxford stocks to see when DF and my IL's might get it - currently says Feb but might be much sooner when Oxford comes onboard!

Bathroom12345 · 28/12/2020 09:32

I agree with a PP -if they announce now and say they will start 4 Jan everyone (and me!) will ask why so far in the future. Why not tomorrow?

I hope to god the Bank Holiday isn’t getting in the way but having been a supplier of government it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest that they have taken a few days off.

MarshaBradyo · 28/12/2020 09:33

I don’t know about right now but MRHA have been working weekends so they may continue even if no announcement today

Ridcully82 · 28/12/2020 09:34

That's interesting:I hadn't thought of that,I'd just assumed the numbers were just based on a million a week, regardless of which one. The hope must be affecting my critical thinking 🤨
goldpendant · 28/12/2020 09:54

Well I'm not sure @Ridcully82 but my guess is that it would be based on stock that's been approved - I'll try to find out.
