To think those happy about the new lockdown are usually privileged

Seen many people on Mumsnet and on other social media borderline happy as soon as a second lockdown was leaked.

Am I missing the memo? So many our going to lose their jobs, homes, mental health.

Not to mention the cost of borrowing all this money that our dc and grandkids will have to repay.

I’m just confused how anyone can be happy about this. To me it’s a disaster.

I guess if your in a well paid secure job then the consequences of lockdown are not as acute than for those of us on the breadline.

When it was the last one there were some celebrities saying how we were all in it together and they knew how we felt, yes them with their home cinema, swimming pool etc and then majority of us. I'd be happy with lockdown with their advantages,

I am in a privileged position but I am also aware that it's going to be a shit storm and we will all be affected financially eventually.

I don't want a lockdown. I don't think the government has any right to pull the plug on anyone's business.

It’s definitely two camps. Those who have been desperate for this and even want schools closed again.

The rest of us who were hoping to avoid this at all cost. Although I accept this may be a necessity, I don’t know the right answer if it’s lockdown or herd immunity or any other proposal.

Absolutely agree. If you’re in a big house WFH then all is good. Lots of people have actually made money out of this pandemic which also pisses me right off. This everyone in the same boat bollocks is bandied about by the privileged.

@Qwertywerty3 it's not unreasonable to want people to behave more sensibly and it's a shame that people aren't. It is unreasonable to expect people to lose their livelihoods and deny their children a face to face education.

Totally agree OP . Im in the privileged group as we both have secure key worker jobs and our older relatives have all isolated with care bubbles so arent at risk. DD works part time in a supermarket so can do the shopping we need after her shifts so we dont have to go to shops needlessly. She doesnt need toys or presents so we are happy to have a scaled dwn stay at home Christmas if thats how it will be Selfishly we are looking forward to lockdown as it makes our travel to work so much quicker .

But - as we are key workers we are very much aware that others arent faring so well and they need help and understanding from others.
It will be a long hard winter for many people and I think ,strangely,it will be harder for those who ,up to now ,have had it relatively easy. Poor people are only too used to making a pound do the work of two and making a meal out of scraps but if youve always been used to popping to the cash machine it will come as a huge shock to not have any reserves.

This is what the Save Christmas rubbish is all about, save Christmas for people like that, not everyone, if there is lockdown i like probably many expect to be jobless at Christmas

I'm privileged, I'll be just fine - and I'm absolutely furious at the fucking ineptitude and insanity of destroying the entire economy - which actually funds the NHS and funds social services to the poor - to "save" the NHS the Nightingales aren't even in full swing.

YANBU. Obviously if you have a lovely house with a big garden and plenty of disposable money you'll be happier than someone on UC living in a small flat with thin walls and no outside space. However just because you're wealthy doesn't mean you aren't suffering due to this. As the saying goes we're all in the same boat but some people's boats are super yachts and some people are in leaky dingys

That is horrible; how can people be so thoughtless?

I can't believe people 'want' a lockdown per se.

What I don't want is thousands more people to die, and NHS intensive care units turning away patients for weeks/months because they are looking after Covid patients.

I don't want schools to close either, especially as i have a DD in year 11, having counselling at school as well as lessons

But if they do shut, we have to suck it up.

It's grim all round.

I am far from privileged but back a second lockdown.

You’re probably right. Secure jobs, probably kids in private education who will continue to be taught remotely.

Or maybe they’re people with family members who are at high risk who are glad that the population are going to be forced to behave more sensibly. Who knows.

I would be happier without a second lockdown though and stricter rules about meeting other households because apparently people who don't want to mix for the safety of others are being unreasonable. Not like we're allowed a choice without being complained at.

We are up to eyeballs in debt and we are based in Central London so low footfall even over summer.

Absolutely. We've already had posters today trolling out the old 'all we're being asked to do is stay at home and watch TV' smuggery. Clearly they don't need to worry about losing their livelihoods and can comfortably home school in their naice middle class houses.
