Anyone NOT know someone whose had it?

I've obviously heard stories of someone who knows someone whose tested positive but I don't know anyone personally whose had it and no cases so far in either the primary school or the secondary school my DC attend.

I'm fully expecting this to change any day now with the cases going up but just wondered how many others don't know of any cases close to them.

I'm in the SW in case anyone's interested.

It is amazing to me that some people still don't know anyone. I am in a low incidence area and know dozens of people who have had it (all tested)including my whole family. Also sadly personally know three people who have died. Two in their 50s and one in his 70s

HelloMissus · 15/10/2020 22:24

janet there are 66 million people in the U.K.
Over 95% of us have not had it.

RosieRuby · 15/10/2020 22:55

1 personally know of
1 person who has died from it
2 seriously ill people
8 people confirmed as having it
50 or more people who think they've had it
I'm in the South

I know ten who have had it earlier on in the year, none were hospitalised, most felt really rotten though and All under 55. I’m SW

Lifeisabeach09 · 16/10/2020 06:07

I have worked with elderly who have had it-some passed away, some lived. All symptoms were pretty mild, for the most part.
I've worked with many HCPs who have had it-some asymptomatic, some mild, and some more severe (but not requiring hospitalisation).

I have to say that I find this virus really weird in terms of how it affects people-in terms of no symptoms versus severity of symptoms. Hard to pinpoint who is going to experience what in terms of severity. Also, with who contracts it!! I've been virulently coughed at by covid+ as have colleagues and we still tested negative (antibody negative also) whereas some colleagues contracted it from less symptomatic cases-all relatively healthy with no known health conditions. Genes, general immunity, current health status, co-morbidities, BMI, ethnicity etc etc may all play a factor but there is so much we don't know still.

I don’t personally know a single person who has tested positive. I’ve heard of people who have, and I know several people who think they had it back in March but didn’t get tested. I’m in SW.

echt · 16/10/2020 07:34

I'm in Victoria, in a very low infection area. I don't know anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone who has/had it.

This is anecdote not data.

kimlo · 16/10/2020 07:36

I know people who had symptoms but couldn't get a test during the first wave, including one who later tested positive for antibodies.

I know people who have tested positive, I know of people who have tested positive, including lots at the dds school.

I know people who have died.

I'm in the ne, not everybody I know is though.

NotPennysBoat · 16/10/2020 07:36

I'm in naughty Manchester and don't know anyone who's had it (although I know people who know people iyswim).

LenaBlack · 16/10/2020 07:54

Loads of people had it at my work..it was a small outoutbreak. North West.
Everyone recovered. One guy was off for almost a month and had to be on bed. Rest had it very mild and were back after 10days. One person in my office who had it mild is back at work but their sense of taste or smell is not back 3 weeks later..

MollyButton · 16/10/2020 08:00

I know one person who had to isolate in the first wave - but was never tested. I don't know anyone who is confirmed to have had it.

My stepdad died of Covid in April, sister in law hospitalised for 2 weeks in August, still unwell & now losing her hair.
I had it in March, poorly for 6 weeks, still on inhalers & medication for lungs, 5 of my daughters uni housemates tested positive though not very ill with it.
None of us caught it from each other.

tmh88 · 16/10/2020 08:09

There’s been a couple of cases at DS nursery, luckily not in his room yet.. and both my nephews schools currently have at least 2 bubbles off.

tmh88 · 16/10/2020 08:09

Pressed post too soon, however I still don’t know anyone personally that’s had it!

LizziesTwin · 16/10/2020 08:15

I know lots of people who have had it, my brother & his wife (Hampshire April), another friend (London March hospitalized ok now) a couple (London April, both had antibodies afterwards), a friend (London March), daughter (Scotland September). Friend who works in a London hospital has been really busy again the last few weeks.

DrGachet · 16/10/2020 08:17

I don't know anyone who's been tested positive, (Suffolk).

I had all the symptoms in December/January in spite of covid apparently not reaching UK until Feb.

Notstayingup · 16/10/2020 08:18

Am in london and don’t know anyone that has had it. Lots of so and so’s sister, husband, friend etc. But no one that I know personally

Toothsil · 16/10/2020 08:59

I didn't until last week. Then I heard my hairdresser has tested positive and we woke up yesterday morning to the awful news that DH's friend had passed away of it.

tootyfruitypickle · 16/10/2020 11:13

I don't know anyone . But then I'm not the most of social of folk!

nonicknameseemsavailable · 16/10/2020 11:22

South west uni town - yes know quite a lot now. Knew some earlier in the year but few and far between confirmed (although quite a lot with suspected but no tests) but in the last few weeks lots.

Thelongdarkteatime · 16/10/2020 11:27

North East England here and don’t know anyone who has had a positive test.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 16/10/2020 11:34

South Yorkshire. Don't know anyone personally or even at one remove.

MaryShelley1818 · 16/10/2020 16:00

Another North East England and don't know anyone who's had it either. I work in a front line Safeguarding job and attend a local University too (although currently virtually due to being pregnant).
DS is at a private nursery and no closures or positives there yet.

Drivingbuttercup · 16/10/2020 16:08

In know loads of people who have tested positive. 6 of my collegues and their families. 5 bubbes in the junior classes have closed at my kid's school. Daughter's bubble has closed twice. A close friend's father has died from it. Its all going on up in the north west.

grassisjeweled · 16/10/2020 16:09
