As they handled the initial outbreak badly, silencing that Doctor and all... Just wondering if this was likely?

I wouldn't imagine so...

They didn't handle it particularly badly as they're numbers are pretty good. I do agree they most likely surpressed information they do have form for this as a country. But I'm not really sure how you think this would practically work?

Lockdownseperation · 09/10/2020 21:10

How would that even work?

The seriousness of situation we are in now as country is due to our governments failure to manage to situation.

IheartNiles · 09/10/2020 21:11

I suspect once this is over there will be pressure to stop importing their products or massive tariffs added.

They handled it so badly Hmm their initial numbers were awful. They killed the doctor who alerted everyone else about it... Or he coincidentally died Hmm it's 100% their fault but I have no idea how it'd be done unless every other country sought compensation to. And yes I know it may open a can of worms but they really need to be told off. Pressure should be put on them to finance world wide recovery in some way.

GirlCrush · 09/10/2020 21:15

prove it?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/10/2020 21:15

Not going to happen. The rest of the world has too much to gain from either selling to China or buying cheap manufactured goods from there.

Bouledeneige · 09/10/2020 21:15

Oh just liked we sued the US for HIV. Or Spain for Spanish flu. That makes total sense. To Donald Trump!

Lockdownseperation · 09/10/2020 21:16

Pandemics are a normal part of life, especially as we live in a world where people travel so frequently. Any virologist would say that a pandemic in the future would be likely and other countries have been planning for this yet our country ended their pandemic planning committee 2 years ago. Even Wimbledon foresaw this.

ZappaDoo · 09/10/2020 21:17

@Bouledeneige US for HIV? That's a new one.... 🤣 Spanish flu is a completely different situation 🤣

Do you buy into conspiracy theories and QAnon stuff op?

MrsMcMuffins · 09/10/2020 21:19

Trump says Covid is a blessing tho

Insaneinthemembury · 09/10/2020 21:20

As someone that cares about animal rights and husbandry, I'm pretty angry at the way this started from abject animal cruelty. It's fairly unanimous this came from a Bush meat at a wet market. (Altho which animal specifically up for dispute)
Archaic practices that are reservoirs for disease.
I think it's ok to be angry about this.

ZappaDoo · 09/10/2020 21:20

Trump says Covid is a blessing tho that is true 🤣

If we tried, China could point to Taiwan, S Korea, New Zealand - and the majority of all other countries on the planet that have handled it better than us.

This is the 4th one to come out if China just saying
Lockdownseperation · 09/10/2020 21:23

@dollychopss, just saying what?

dorispiffle · 09/10/2020 21:25

The HIV and the US conspiracy has been around for decades.

You'd have to prove that China manf covid and knowingly distributed it surely, other wise every country could be sued for negligence inc the UK

sally067 · 09/10/2020 21:30

Maybe Iraq and the Middle East could seek compensation from us if we're going to go down that road?

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 21:30

I was going to say, you mean like how the UK compensated for BSE and nvCJD???

And then I saw this

'As someone that cares about animal rights and husbandry, I'm pretty angry at the way this started from abject animal cruelty. It's fairly unanimous this came from a Bush meat at a wet market. (Altho which animal specifically up for dispute)
Archaic practices that are reservoirs for disease.

Grin

Fucking hell.

OddBoots · 09/10/2020 21:33

Then will all the countries suffering fires and flooding due to climate change sue the countries that are not acting fast enough on CO2 emissions?

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 21:34

'This new form of the disease would go on to be identified as variant CJD (vCJD), occurring primarily in younger people and caused through eating BSE-infected meat.[14] The first known death from vCJD occurred on 21 May 1995, when the 19-year old Stephen Churchill died[14] although the UK government continued to emphasise the safety of British beef and, in September 1995, concluded that there was 'insufficient evidence' to link BSE and vCJD.[15] It was not until 20 March 1996 that Stephen Dorrell, the Secretary of State for Health announced that vCJD was caused by eating BSE-infected meat.'

Any comments? And I'm sure there will be some to explain how what we did was so so much different to... I'm not even sure what China is supposed to have done tbh. They locked the fuck down as only a communist regime can.

dollychopss · 09/10/2020 21:34

This is the 4th virus to come out of China I meAn how many more will they gift us ?

@Bouledeneige

Spanish flu did not come from Spain. It's just that they were neutral in WW1 when it started so they were the only country not hiding the fact that it was rife in the press. I think it initially started in the US then quickly spread with mass movement of the troops.
Insaneinthemembury · 09/10/2020 21:36

@nicegerbil fucking hell indeed.
