Are we going to seek compensation from China?

As they handled the initial outbreak badly, silencing that Doctor and all... Just wondering if this was likely?

OP posts:
NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 21:37

If a high ranking Chinese politician is filmed saying no problem here while having their 5yo child chow down on a live bat then maybe we can talk 😂😂😂

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 21:39

Insane we fed DEAD COWS ground up to LIVE COWS turning them both non vegetarian and cannibal and then lied/ covered up etc when it started killing people.

Yes fucking hell. Any comments?

Lockdownseperation · 09/10/2020 21:42

@dollychopss well considering the U.K. has less than 1% of the world population and we introduced/caused BSE/CVJ and China has 20% of the world’s population and so far they have only give us 4 (which 4? I can only think of 2 of the top of my head) I would imagine properly a few more.

MissPoldark · 09/10/2020 21:44

I suspect once this is over there will be pressure to stop importing their products or massive tariffs added.

Hohoho. There are thousands of British companies that use Chinese factories for manufacturing their products! Not buying Chinese products isn’t going to bother China.

Brightdays2020 · 09/10/2020 21:49

Just when you think there wouldn’t be more idiotic posts after rages over mask wearing, little Johnny’s ruined birthday party, tracing app mandatory use at dentist, and so on and so forth.
OP I sincerely hope you are joking and even then it’s a distasteful one.
Wuhan was locked down at the end of January. 9 months later we are still in deep shit with a visibly incompetent government and people running around all directions pathetically. Look no further than this very forum.
Whatever the Chinese government didn’t do adequately initially, they could be held responsible by its own public, especially those in Wuhan. If you want a free ride, sorry but no please save everyone some decency to not make this country an even bigger joke.
I remember my hesitation to get on a pre scheduled business trip to Germany in February a couple of weeks after the outbreak made public. Yes it was in Europe but nowadays people travel and transfer everywhere. Guess what? Heathrow was no difference than any other time at all. In the weeks to come after that, every bloody morning some government officials were on the radio talking about how Britain was well prepared. 8-9 freaking months later what do you think of the preparedness?
By all means let’s seek compensation but you are targeting the wrong government. Even someone as thick as Trump wouldn’t agree with you. It was just like flu after all and he sailed through it. What compensation?

emptyplinth · 09/10/2020 21:51

Don't be ridiculous. We had plenty of warning and still did a shit job of managing this. How is that China's fault?

Insaneinthemembury · 09/10/2020 21:52

@nicegerbil I agree that's terrible.

It doesn't make a global pandemic coming from these atrocious wet matkets, where the animal cruelty is heart breaking, any less terrible.

zaphodbeeble · 09/10/2020 21:53

I’m suing Italy for the Roman conquest

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 21:53

It does make threads like this hypocritical in the extreme though.

Gncq · 09/10/2020 21:56

@NiceGerbil

I was going to say, you mean like how the UK compensated for BSE and nvCJD???

And then I saw this

'As someone that cares about animal rights and husbandry, I'm pretty angry at the way this started from abject animal cruelty. It's fairly unanimous this came from a Bush meat at a wet market. (Altho which animal specifically up for dispute)
Archaic practices that are reservoirs for disease.
I think it's ok to be angry about this.'

Grin

Fucking hell.

What's grin and fucking hell about that? ?
PlanDeRaccordement · 09/10/2020 21:56

Swine flu came from western intensive farming practices. MERS came from simply herding camels and using them to carry stuff and tourists. You can think wet markets are more prone to viruses hopping species, but you’d be wrong.

It’s mad to think China owes any compensation for a natural disaster that could happen anywhere on the planet.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/10/2020 22:01

No.

Not in a billion years.

It might be used to drum up xenophobic shite so that Trump can cause a conflict that benefits his aims. And if you're a pitchfork-waving racist, feel free to help him.

You know British people still can't give blood in a few places because of BSE. Just a fun fact.

daisypond · 09/10/2020 22:01

No, of course we’re not going to seek compensation from China. Why would we?

Bouledeneige · 09/10/2020 22:03

So if the pandemic had started in Blackpool and For forbid, the government didn't know how to contain it, you'd support other countries sueing the UK? Do you actually understand what viruses are?

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 22:03

The utter rank hypocrisy, gncq.

We turned cows- vegetarians- into cannibalistic carnivores.

And then, to protect our meat industries. Lied and lied and lied and lied.

So yes I find the hand wringing over the nasty Chinese ludicrous. Laugh or cry isn't it.

Would you rather I said I find that post CRASS, IGNORANT and ENRAGING?

and say how much it fucks me off how we, the great British public, point our fingers at things around the world and say oh no! Oh no! How awful. When we have done much worse ourselves.

I hope that is better Smile

Gncq · 09/10/2020 22:04

CJD wasn't a Global Pandemic, the massive crisis, in deaths, job losses, economies all over the world, caused by Chinese Wet market practices are unprecedented.

They may as well have thrown out biological weapons.

Bouledeneige · 09/10/2020 22:04

I'm going to sue the flu. Anyone know who's to blame?

Gncq · 09/10/2020 22:05

CJD affected a handful of people.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/10/2020 22:05

@Gncq

CJD wasn't a Global Pandemic, the massive crisis, in deaths, job losses, economies all over the world, caused by Chinese Wet market practices are unprecedented.

They may as well have thrown out biological weapons.

More luck than judgement.
Pixxie7 · 09/10/2020 22:06

The Chinese government ignored one of their doctors advice haven’t other countries, including our own done the same?

Gncq · 09/10/2020 22:07

So if the pandemic had started in Blackpool

I don't recall Blackpool having a vibrant bat eating market.

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 22:10

GNCQ so the fact that what we did was outrageous, and that we lied, over an extended period of time. Is irrelevant? Because only however many people lost people? Often young- that's how they noticed something was up.

The statement 'They may as well have thrown out biological weapons.' implies that you see this as a deliberate act to kill in a warfare type situation. Is that an analogy you haven't thought through, or is that what you meant to get across?

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 22:13

'CJD affected a handful of people'

A numbers game is it?

In that case pollution and natural disasters need your urgent attention.

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 22:14

'The Chinese government ignored one of their doctors advice haven’t other countries, including our own done the same?'

Yes. Constantly.

I know you're taking about medical doctors. But still, it put me in mind of Dr David Kelly.

Girlyracer · 09/10/2020 22:19

Comparing cows to COVID. FFS it's a bloody different scale don't you think? Like the full fucking planet affected different.

Quit with all the whataboutery.

This thread is about the possible consequences to China of causing this unbelievable, life changing creation. And please, don't anyone ask why it is life changing.

OP I don't know the answer but relations with China are damaged beyond repair for the foreseeable.

Thanks China.
