I can’t believe people would say or post such a thing.

I dislike the man and most, of not all of his policies.

But to hope for the worst when he’s taken to hospital/unwell?

Do people think that shows them as decent and kind...to my mind it puts those people in the same category as him - cruel, heartless and unnecessarily unkind. Am I on my own with this?!

For what it’s worth I’m not a pushover and don’t mind the odd sarcastic comment or dark humour but wishing the worst on him and being so openly proud to do so, I find rather shocking and lacking in intellect and decency.

Yes, I agree. I hate the man, but I don't wish him dead. He has family who presumably love him. And I believe that there is intrinsic value in the life of all individuals, even when there is no worth in their character.

I do, however, think it would be the best thing for the USA and the world if he were forced by the virus to withdraw from the presidential election. That would be a good put outcome.

Nquartz · 03/10/2020 10:31

Presumably people treat him/think of him the same way he has treated/thought of others... locking children in cages for example. He doesn't exactly incite good feelings does he?

Laaalaaaa · 03/10/2020 10:34

Some of the posts I’ve seen on here I’m sure they think it makes them look cool and edgy. No, it’s makes you look like a complete idiot. Yay let’s wish someone dead - how ridiculous.

Dancingwithdaftness · 03/10/2020 10:37

I'm ambivalent about him. It's a little bit poetic though that he who doth protest that it's a small problem should fall victim to it. There's a photo that haunts me still, it's the little Mexican toddler facing up to Trump on the cover of Time. I know it was photoshopped, but it was an incredibly moving photo. The original photo was heartbreaking too. I can't get too worked up about him, though he astounds me at least once a week with the bizarre tweets and statements he makes. No doubt he will have had the worst case of Chinavirus the world has ever seen. He's more a figure of amusement to me than real feeling.

dreamingbohemian · 03/10/2020 10:41

I don't think you should judge if you haven't been personally affected by his horrific administration.

For a start, 200,000 families have lost loved ones because of his incompetence and malice. They're allowed to feel however they want.

Whatadoa · 03/10/2020 10:42

nquartz that’s my point exactly. Commenting such nasty things is rather ironic as it puts the poster closely associated with trump’s own way of working.

We are not a bunch of 7 year olds (at least I hope not).

KitKatastrophe · 03/10/2020 10:43

Trump is, at best, incompetent and racist.

His actions during his tenure as president will have cost lives and made others lives much worse. He's a danger to society.

Whatadoa · 03/10/2020 10:44

dreaming feeling however you want is one thing. Posting nasty things on social media is another.

In my opinion, it’s almost embarrassing to see people have a political view and think they are on some moral high ground, only to then say such crass and awful things about trump as he goes into hospital.

OP posts:
Whatadoa · 03/10/2020 10:45

kit I agree.

But that wasn’t the point or topic of my post.

I suspect most of the people who say they hope he dies of it, are angry at all the harm he has done, & afraid of all he will inevitably do if he recovers. Not an unreasonable way to feel, TBH. Personally I don't wish him harm. I hope he recovers from it. At least long enough for his overwhelming debts to come due & the world to see what a self serving charlatan he really is. I've not doubt that no expense will be spared in saving his life, whether or not he can afford it. Because power, & they'll be afraid for their jobs if they don't.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 03/10/2020 10:47

I don't want him to die, I want him to lose horribly in the election (although unlikely to happen).

I don't judge others who say harsh things in the heat of the moment, I haven't been personally affected by his policies and absolutely criminal handling of Covid - but I'm sure those that have been, and particularly those that have lost loved ones, have very strong feelings.

Absolutely this.

I don't care what happens to him because he doesn't care about anyone but himself. And that is leaving aside the harm his policies are doing. He is despicable. This is poetic justice.

PinotLovesMomma · 03/10/2020 10:53

Whilst I would never wish ill health on anyone, I fear that if he does indeed have a mild case with no long lasting effects it will just push him more to dismiss it as a mild illness that doesn't require the disruption restrictions and measures that have been put in place

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/10/2020 10:55

I don't wish death or suffering on anyone. I do not feel sympathy for him though, or his wife.

Heffalooomia · 03/10/2020 10:55

I completely totally agree with you OP☝️😶
(But it's so fuckjng funny isn't it🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I could barely stop laughing last night🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣)

Heffalooomia · 03/10/2020 10:57

In case you misunderstand me I don't want him to die
Christ on a bike that would be terrible, it would be terrible if he got off that easy ☹️

cardibach · 03/10/2020 10:57

I genuinely don’t believe he has it.
If he has, I don’t wish him dead. I won’t mourn if he dies though.

ColleagueFromMars · 03/10/2020 11:40

The current president of America has been responsible for human rights atrocities such as kids locked in cages and permanently separated from their parents, and calls humans illegals and aliens.

He thinks healthcare is not a universal human right.

Don't get me started on what he thinks about women or the decisions he and fellow pale male stale men have made about women's rights.

feeling however you want is one thing. Posting nasty things on social media is another.

He routinely posts nasty things on social media, thinks that have incited violence, deaths and hatred. In fact, he's almost caused nuclear war from his tweets. An average mumsnet poster posting that the world would be a better place if he was dead (an opinion that is demonstrably true) is not the same thing.

Heffalooomia · 03/10/2020 11:41

Trump has shat upon the whole world I can't believe anyone thinks he deserves sympathy!

teta · 03/10/2020 11:47

Actually, I totally concur with the fact that the world would be much safer if he wasn't around. I truly believe he's one of the nastiest ,evil, influential individuals in power . And he will stop at nothing to win. The sheer meaness and low blows of the presidential debate was eye opening and should never be repeated.
I don't believe this makes me equally culpable.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 03/10/2020 12:01

I totally agree with the opening post. I wish The President and FLOTUS a speedy and full recovery, as I do for anyone with Covid.

If people in the US don't agree with his views then they have the opportunity to make sure he isn't re-elected. Wishing harm on him is just childish. It won't remove people from society who hold similar views.

To a PP, there is nothing wrong with using the word illegals to refer those who do not have the right to reside in a country.

The word alien is a standard word used in the US. It is not a derogatory term. In relation to immigration, it just means a non-US citizen or national. It isn't a term concocted by President Trump.

seayork2020 · 03/10/2020 12:06

I do not with this virus on anyone regardless of who they are, how I feel about a person is nothing to do with the virus

But also he is not my president, I am not American and cannot vote there I know some of his decisions effect the rest of the world but I again I am not American so I dont get this obsession of hating him from people who can't vote for him

And no I am not a 'fan' of his

TheSeedsOfADream · 03/10/2020 12:12

What's ironic is that half the posters on here being discusted at wishing him dead are the same ones who think all Covid restrictions should be lifted because of Halloween and because they don't care about "some random 80 year old" who would be dead soon anyway.
I am human enough not to wish anyone dead. I watched Bin Laden, Sadam Hussein, and Ceaucescu.
I didn't mourn but neither did I leap for joy. And seeing people that do makes me fear for our humanity. (As do the vile posts about the elderly)

Alien was also used in British immigration law until fairly recent historically speaking.

Exactly. We are not in America. When Trump was boasting about not wearing masks did he think he also looked like an idiot?

You’ve got to lead by example in Trumps position.

MiniTheMinx · 03/10/2020 12:18

I'm ambivalent, I don't care much what happens to Trump. I don't wish him any harm. The people get what the people deserve.....and he is a product himself of a very unhealthy social system. If I were forced to say anything then I'd wish him well, as I would anyone else. I do though think that the world would be a better place if there was no room in politics for his abhorrent values.
