I can’t believe people would say or post such a thing.

I dislike the man and most, of not all of his policies.

But to hope for the worst when he’s taken to hospital/unwell?

Do people think that shows them as decent and kind...to my mind it puts those people in the same category as him - cruel, heartless and unnecessarily unkind. Am I on my own with this?!

For what it’s worth I’m not a pushover and don’t mind the odd sarcastic comment or dark humour but wishing the worst on him and being so openly proud to do so, I find rather shocking and lacking in intellect and decency.

@cardibach

I genuinely don’t believe he has it. If he has, I don’t wish him dead. I won’t mourn if he dies though.

There's plenty of people who I wouldn't spare a thought for if I heard they were suffering from COVID. Graham Dwyer, Chris Watts, Harvey Weinstein... couldn't give a toss. Trump is just another for the list.

Having said that in my ideal world he won't die of Covid. He'll lose the election first.

FatGirlShrinking · 03/10/2020 12:37

I dont wish him dead but I do wish him a long enough and bad enough illness to derail his presidential campaign and take him out of the running.

The fact he was ever elected is a travesty, it is despicable that he's been allowed to get away with lying, imprisoning babies, condoning white supremacy, inciting racist rally's, making abortion illegal and the many many other things he's done.

If this gets him out of the White House then COVID will finally have been useful for something.

Msmcc1212 · 03/10/2020 12:43

I don’t think it’s as simple as wishing the worst makes the person saying it cruel. Many very kind, thoughtful people I know are wishing him dead. Not out of cruelty but out of a sense of concern and worry for the world. He is dangerous and is trying to take things in the world to a very dangerous place. Wishing him dead is wishing for the world to be in a safer pair of hands.

I personally hope he gets it really badly and that it scares him. I hope this because if he gets it mildly he will continue on his path of minimising it, if he dies people will martyr him and this could fuel white supremacy and fascist causes.

If he gets it mildly it might give him a good enough excuse to pull out of the election and save face.

I feel sorry for him on one level because he is such a fragile person in terms of his sense of self, self esteem and ego and I think he didn’t have what he needed growing up, but he is deeply dangerous as he has an enormous amount of power and is using it to the detriment of a huge amount of people. So I do feel an enormous amount of anger towards him and have no concern about his personal wellbeing. Melania has chosen her path. Ido feel concern for his offspring who had no choice in terms of their father, however those that are now adults could take different paths and choose not to.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/10/2020 12:44

Put it this way - if I could be reasonably comfortable he would lose, or wouldn't run again, I wouldn't care either way. As it is, he still (unbelievably, despite everything) has a decent chance of winning. If he does win, he'll cause thousands more deaths, and pain, fear, hatred and chaos.

To me, this is no different to wishing ill on a sexual predator, or a sadistic abuser, or an arms dealer, or anyone like that. If it was the only sure way of taking them out of circulation, then sure. Why wouldn't you?

OpheliasCrayon · 03/10/2020 12:45

I agree I'd never wish anyone to die.

I absolutely loathe the man though and I do hope it messes up his reelection...........so he's...not reelected

wildcherries · 03/10/2020 12:51

There's plenty of people who I wouldn't spare a thought for if I heard they were suffering from COVID. Graham Dwyer, Chris Watts, Harvey Weinstein... couldn't give a toss. Couldn't agree more. Although they all deserve to suffer for many years first. Soulless bastards.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/10/2020 12:54

To add to my last post - if death were the only way of stopping him, then yes, of course I wish him dead.

If I could choose though, I would prefer for him to survive, and lose, and see the world celebrate, and face justice for everything he's done, and finally watch as his successor(s) clean up the mess he's made and become far more respected and successful than he could ever be. Then he can die. Grin

FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 12:58

I agree with you, OP. I also tend to think that what goes around comes around,.and wishing for the death of a stranger doesn't seem like it'll attract good fortune to those who do it.

Well I've never wished anyone dead before and 2020 still happened.
FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 13:07

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

2020 isn't the worst year we've ever had and it won't be the worst year we ever do have. We do like to catastrophise, I know, but, if you put it into perspective, it's just a blip.

I wouldn't wish him any harm but there is an irony to him catching it. And if he's getting those kinds of comments he's just reaping what he's sown.

Eskarina1 · 03/10/2020 13:16

I don't wish him dead. I don't think that's healthy for me. Of course I hope he and everyone else infected recovers.

I also think the sympathy vote for Mike Pence could be a disaster.

However, I can recognise that a prominent advocate for coronavirus being not that bad dying of it would ultimately save a lot of lives.

dreamingbohemian · 03/10/2020 13:20

Yes, especially because Trump IS a sexual predator. He's been accused of sexual assault by dozens of women and even bragged about it on camera.

Thousands of people have died or been endangered because of his domestic and foreign policies, and his incitement of racial hatred. I agree that wanting him out of the way is not coming solely from a place of hatred but also from thinking about all the lives that might be saved if he were out of power.

FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 13:25

Back to bed, Donald

I know you're being flippant, but in all seriousness, 2020 really isn't the worst year to ever happen. COVID is no black death. We're very lucky to live in the time we do, in the area of the world we do, and we take it for granted. And then moan constantly whenever we encounter hardship.

dreamingbohemian · 03/10/2020 13:29

'Things were worse in 1347!'

Persuasive.

notevenat20 · 03/10/2020 13:32

To me, this is no different to wishing ill on a sexual predator,

As someone who has had plenty of experience of a sexual predator, I wanted them to go jail for a few years, not die of a terrible disease.

Cocolapew · 03/10/2020 13:36

I don't want him dead, though I wouldn't care a jot if he did die.
I do want him to be very ill with it though. Imagine if he gets a mild dose, we will never hear the end of it, how it's no worse than the flu or how he was so healthy he fought it off no problem.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 03/10/2020 13:37

I'd never wish anyone dead. Well, apart from child abusers.

FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 13:38

Things were worse for most of history, in fact. But I suspect you know that.
notevenat20 · 03/10/2020 13:42

"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

Seems to summarise some views here.

Dreading2020sSeasonFinale · 03/10/2020 13:44

He's allowed, no, enabled the deaths and torture of hundreds of thousands of people. He has children in cages. Police are attacking citizens like the SS did. He supports white supremacists and refuses to condemn white terrorists. He is against women's rights, he is against poor people, foreign people and the actual planet we live on. He's a mysoginist, a serial adulterer, a cheat and a swindler.

Would anyone feel bad wishing a disease would kill Hitler? Trumps death numbers might be lower but he's cut from the same cloth.

RaisinGhost · 03/10/2020 13:45

I find rather shocking and lacking in intellect and decency.

You know who's lack of intellect and decency I find shocking? I'll give a clue - they recently told white supremacists to "stand by".
