I can’t believe people would say or post such a thing.

I dislike the man and most, of not all of his policies.

But to hope for the worst when he’s taken to hospital/unwell?

Do people think that shows them as decent and kind...to my mind it puts those people in the same category as him - cruel, heartless and unnecessarily unkind. Am I on my own with this?!

For what it’s worth I’m not a pushover and don’t mind the odd sarcastic comment or dark humour but wishing the worst on him and being so openly proud to do so, I find rather shocking and lacking in intellect and decency.

OP posts:

I'd be surprised if he dies from this though - he's having antibody treatment which would not be available to almost any other American (unless super rich). Because of his wealth and power he's getting medical care most people can only dream of.

He is getting special treatment, obviously, but not because of his wealth. He’s getting it because, whatever you or I think of him, he is the democratically elected President of the United States. If covid had happened during Obama’s presidency, he would have had special treatment, too.

ColleagueFromMars · 03/10/2020 16:27

Oh come on. Of course it's also because of his wealth.

ColleagueFromMars · 03/10/2020 16:41

He is against women's rights, he is against poor people, foreign people and the actual planet we live on. He's a mysoginist, a serial adulterer, a cheat and a swindler.

You could say that about a lot of older men. I really don't think they are all similar to Hitler

No. Most pale & stale men don't deliberately seperate children from their families, lock them up in cages and make zero provision for reuniting them, for a start.

Why isn't everybody horrified at this man's actions? He IS the modern day Hitler. He is at least teaching us how Hitler got away with so much.

As for the normalisation of the words "Alien" and "Illegals" to describe human fucking beings here's hope that at least some lawmakers in the US understand the power and inappropriateness of those words, even if Itsabeautifuldayheyhey doesn't Hmm

@FourPlasticRings I'm pretty sure Pence would be worse, but I'm hoping he'd get fewer votes and be more likely to lose to Biden. I may be wrong in that, though.

ilikebooksandplants · 04/10/2020 10:55

OP, if you truly find it shocking that people might wish a pervy old American president dead then I gently question your own intellect. That isn’t shocking at all, or even news worthy.

Trump will be in a better position than much of his country to fight covid19. People ‘wishing’ him dead means absolutely nothing, just like me wishing I would win the lottery means nothing. It’s all irrelevant. Just calm down with your nonsense, it doesn’t make you look kind or more decent than those wishing him ill. It makes you look brain dead when considering the awful impact this man (or those he is a figure head for) has had on America and the rest of the world in the last four years.

Can't improve on this.
BabyLlamaZen · 04/10/2020 13:03

Ideally you want him ill and resigning. Can never wish anyone dead, although I understand it if he has affected you personally. He is horrific.

Sadly I think he'll just come out of it with lots of sympathy.

Having read the title, I really thought the next line was going to be “do you expect to be allowed to travel to the US?”

FamilyOfAliens · 05/10/2020 08:27

@notevenat20

"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

Seems to summarise some views here.

You forgot to attribute this quote to Mark Twain.

It’s been posted on several similar threads about Trump and I agree with it wholeheartedly.

notevenat20 · 05/10/2020 08:34

You forgot to attribute this quote to Mark Twain.

That wasn’t an accident. He never wrote it/said it apparently.

wafflyversatile · 05/10/2020 08:34

You know that people hoping for something makes no difference to what will happen? And revelling in the schadenfreude of someone possibly suffering the same fate as those who unnecessarily died because of that person's lack of care for anyone other than himself does not make them the same.

Anyway I hope he doesnt die. I want to see him lose the election and be imprisoned for tax evasion and/or whatever other crimes he's committed.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/10/2020 08:37

It is attributed to him, though. Unless it’s attributed to someone else - do you have a link?
alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 05/10/2020 08:50

Clarence Darrow said it, not Mark Twain.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/10/2020 08:52

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1

Clarence Darrow said it, not Mark Twain.
I googled it too - Clarence Darrow certainly said something similar., though not that exact quote.

It's very common for popular quotes to be misattributed. See "play it again Sam" etc

FamilyOfAliens · 05/10/2020 09:36
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/350238/
That was the top hit when I googled it too Smile.

It is a very similar quote, that’s true, but not the same.

Dustballs · 05/10/2020 09:57

I do, however, think it would be the best thing for the USA and the world if he were forced by the virus to withdraw from the presidential election. That would be a good put outcome.

I think this is the reason why people are wishing the worst.

StarUtopia · 05/10/2020 09:59

The current president of America has been responsible for human rights atrocities such as kids locked in cages and permanently separated from their parents, .

I think you'll find that was Obama. I couldn't even be bothered to read the read of the inaccuracies!
