It's a common thing I find to post something really relevant to an ongoing discussion on mn you've half heard on R4, and tell posters to "double check cos kids, cooking, didn't catch it all!"

NotTerfNorCis · 03/10/2020 18:48

Big jump in the Republic of Ireland - 605 today from 466 yesterday. The highest daily number of cases since April.

NotTerfNorCis · 03/10/2020 18:56

613 soz - Worldometer misreported. www.gov.ie/en/news/7e0924-latest-updates-on-covid-19-coronavirus/

sirfredfredgeorge · 03/10/2020 19:01

However, I wouldn't assume my symptoms to be anything other than a cold or a non-covid virus, but to be honest they could quite easily be symptoms of it

I think we need to be pretty honest that for students in freshers week, headaches and sore throats are extremely common symptoms in any year and unlikely to be specific to covid.

headtotoe12 · 03/10/2020 19:15

Seems very strange that no data has been reported today? Makes me nervous!

Thiscantreallybehappening · 03/10/2020 19:20

Has anyone seen anything about why today's daily figures haven't been released?

Dementedswan · 03/10/2020 19:27

I keep checking for today's figures and nothing... have they ever been this late before?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 03/10/2020 19:31

I can remember them being late once before but I think they tweeted that there was a problem with the data so we knew why they were late. It seems odd because the Mail are reporting the hospital deaths but no final figures anywhere.

Dementedswan · 03/10/2020 19:39

What's the deaths?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 03/10/2020 19:41

51 deaths in hospitals (preliminary figures)

MarcelineMissouri · 03/10/2020 19:44

@headtotoe12 I always used to get nervous when the numbers were kate but actually each time it’s happened they haven’t been anything spectacular, it was clearly just delayed days or technical glitches. Not to say it couldn’t be extra high - it may well be! But I don’t think it’s related in any way.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/10/2020 19:45

I've also come looking for this thread because of noticing that nowhere are today's UK cases being reported today and they are usually up by 5pm ish.

Dementedswan · 03/10/2020 19:46

Thank you. I'm worried. My tiny area in the north east is currently on 259 cases per 100,000, up by 89 last week and we have been in local lockdown for two weeks. Delaying figures isnt helping . No I'm not in newcastle where uni figures are high so this is community transmission in a small area.

Jenasaurus · 03/10/2020 19:51
Jen this is the place to look - but it hasn't been updated yet today. Very late!

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/
Thanks for that link, I will keep checking

MRex · 03/10/2020 19:53

Northumbria Uni are standing by the figures in a statement at 5pm today, also saying it's NHS tests and linked to a mobile testing unit: www.northumbria.ac.uk/covid19/latest-information/.
So, they clearly don't think this is students confirming themselves as in isolation / quarantine only, nor batch tests highlighting a whole flat, nor their own tests that might have errors. Just an awful lot of students.

MRex · 03/10/2020 19:54

The prison outbreak in Lowdham Grange looks pretty big - noticeable on the map because of the scale of MSOA, but also 53 people is a lot.

Witchend · 03/10/2020 20:02

Maybe they're going to start doing the same as France and Spain and not doing weekend releases, but do it all on Monday

Cattermole · 03/10/2020 20:08

I don't think the absence of update today is anything significant. PHE haven't tweeted all day and normally they have a series of automatic scheduled tweets throughout the day, so I wonder if it's as simple as the IT department's secure connection is down?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 03/10/2020 20:08

France have released their cases 16,792 today - Worldometer. There is no update on deaths though

TheSunIsStillShining · 03/10/2020 20:12

My husband's theory (he is a very down to earth engineer) on late numbers: they are massaging the numbers to suit the narrative.
My solution: someone tripped and brought down the server room (which I actually did once.)

wintertravel1980 · 03/10/2020 20:17

I fully agree with Cattermole. I have also noted that PHE haven't tweeted all day. The two things are very likely to be connected and the reason is likely to be very trivial.

Cattermole · 03/10/2020 20:18

People are poking PHE_UK on Twitter @TheSunIsStillShining and getting an indelible blank. It's the total lack of media response that makes me think there's some poor sod in the server room surrounded by eletric spaghetti....

Jenasaurus · 03/10/2020 20:19

@Witchend

If thats the case shouldnt there be a message to tell us thats what they are going to do
wintertravel1980 · 03/10/2020 20:25

The not so good news is that hospital admissions for England have increased from 328 on 30/9 on to 368 on 1/10. London is up from 31 to 50 (which is a big jump) and North West is up from 101 to 128.

I am surprised to see the London number because the government dashboard has been showing stable numbers for London patients in hospitals (around 265 from 29/9 to 2/10).

I really feel for him if that's the actual case Grin
