So pubs closing at 10 and no spectators at sports events. Seriously I stayed at home to watch that. I’m not saying I want more to be put in place and I’m under local restrictions in my area so can’t see friends and family, but the impression I got a the very least I was expecting BJ to say the rest of the country wouldn’t be allowed to meet with friends and family too. Like I said I don’t want that at all but I can’t believe all the hype of this speech just for that.

OP posts:
Yetiyoga · 22/09/2020 13:58

I think children are exempt from the sports one.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 22/09/2020 14:00

He also mentioned table service only in pubs , think some pubs have done really well wit following guidelines others not so much so hopefully the ones we see with 50 people all stood together will stop
I think they realise how important seeing family is and won't remove meeting people until they really have to

ineedaholidaynow · 22/09/2020 14:01

I assume pubs etc will have to make sure rules the guidance is enforced now it has become law, so will need to ensure client details are correct, so may check on ID and people are SD

BillywilliamV · 22/09/2020 14:05

I do wonder how many weddings Boris thinks we are actually attending. I’ve not been to one for 18 months.

CeibaTree · 22/09/2020 14:10

@toolatetooearly

fucking hell, 50% of mumsnet are people declaring they'll break any extra draconian restrictions forced upon them, while the other 50% are people complaining that these restrictions are useless and they haven't gone far enough
Everything should balance out nicely then 😂
fortyfifty · 22/09/2020 14:13

I am sure I heard him say adults indoor team sports - now restricted to 6 people

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 14:14

Just noticed this

Customers in indoor hospitality venues will also have to wear masks, except when seated at a table to eat or drink

Devlesko · 22/09/2020 14:17

So has furlough ended then?

NotAKaren · 22/09/2020 14:18

@movingonup20

He mentioned team sports to those questioning kids dance etc - if you can distance and/or wear masks you are under different rules. Team sports can't distance.
Not sure how this works as no requirement for kids to wear masks for indoor activities or who would monitor this. The army? Covid Marshals? Although I hope that these can continue my concern is the mixing of lots of kids from different schools indoors, making another bubble and a higher likelihood of having to isolate as a result of a positive case.

@IndiaMay

Weddings are back down to 15 which is a ball ache. They went from 5 people, to none allowed for 3 months, to 10 to 30 and now down to 15 again. Cant keep up
Feeling relieved about this one as I had an Oct wedding in the diary shortly before my baby's due date. I know plenty of the guests didn't want to go to this wedding on safety grounds (elderly, vulnerable, plain cautious etc) but nobody wanted to decline because we all love the couple.

Gutted for the lovely couple but so relieved the government has made the decision for us!

Friendsoftheearth · 22/09/2020 14:21

The hype was mainly driven by the media.

We should be feeling relieved as I am sure if the infection rate had been 7000-8000 the outcome would have been different today.

We do not need to overreact, we might be able to sustain a decent quality of life and a stable infection rate, it is entirely possible, just gradually tighten up and find the biting point. We are not going to get to zero infections under any scenario, we need to reach the mid point of balancing the two.

I am very glad they have held off on further restrictions, and we will wait and see how the next two/three weeks play out.

I am relieved!

ineedaholidaynow · 22/09/2020 14:23

Scouts are meant to wear masks indoors (although Cubs and Beavers don't have to) and SD @NotAKaren

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/09/2020 14:24

I thought they were stopping us from visiting other households. Have I not got that right.
I don’t see what closing pubs at 10 o’clock is going to doConfused
It’s also funny that Lancashire with the exception of Blackpool has been put in to Lockdown. I wonder why

Popcornriver · 22/09/2020 14:25

How are rising cases/hospital admissions/deaths hype by the media?

These new measures won't do a thing.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/09/2020 14:25

Ah yes it’s just came to me It starts with an
M ends in a Y and has got the number one in the middle

CalmYoBadSelf · 22/09/2020 14:26

@toolatetooearly

fucking hell, 50% of mumsnet are people declaring they'll break any extra draconian restrictions forced upon them, while the other 50% are people complaining that these restrictions are useless and they haven't gone far enough
Exactly! Whatever the government do there'll be half of us thinking we know better and complaining! Part of the problem for any government now is social media and people thinking their opinion should be weighed in to any decisions. Ultimately it is a clear signal that things need to change so we all need to take that on board and be aware that riding this out may require some unpopular decisions
Carlislemumof4 · 22/09/2020 14:28

I feel positive about today's announcements. Relieved my DCs can continue in school for as long as possible this term and that low risk sectors such as non essential retail are staying open in the run up to Christmas, with the rules on mask wearing firmed up.

Firef1y72 · 22/09/2020 14:35

@Mooserp

Does indoor sports include gyms?
No. My PT/class instructor has already had that panic and it is specifically indoor adult team sports. If classes are covid secure then they can go ahead.
Goldistheanswer · 22/09/2020 14:38

Nicola Sturgeon has just announced that the CMO and CSA advised that the measures were insufficient if they didn’t include more social restrictions. So Scotland, in line with N.Ireland and Wales, are all opting for more severe measures than England.

Yetiyoga · 22/09/2020 14:41

@Goldistheanswer what are those measures? I've family in Wales!

Firef1y72 · 22/09/2020 14:42

@onedayinthefuture

So kids can run around a soft play centre but can't play an indoor team sport?
Pretty sure he specified indoor adult team sports, so children can still do indoor team sports
emmathedilemma · 22/09/2020 14:43

here goes Queen Nicola.....no indoor household mixing :(

purpleme12 · 22/09/2020 14:43

Most of our office has now gone back in -just this week
There's no way they're going to turn back round
And say everyone work from home again!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2020 14:44

Is this the speech that was supposed to be at 8pm?

Goldistheanswer · 22/09/2020 14:45

Not sure in Wales, I’m following Pippa Crearer and Sky twitter accounts but I think it relates to restricting social contact (in the home and in other social settings) to 1 household.
