Anyone heard anymore on this? Apparently amid the testing chaos, we’re now thought to be at 38,000 cases a day & CMO wants a 2 week national lockdown

i've seen no evidence that he is apart from that twitter link.

Can you back up that twitter link with actual evidence rather than social media scare tactics?

CoronaIsWatching · 16/09/2020 23:21

This guys responsible for this whole situation, he was the one who delayed the original lockdown yet he just loves lecturing us

Chaotic45 · 16/09/2020 23:24

I've seen a couple of threads discussing the merits of this. IMO so few people are actually going as they've been asked means it would be pointless.

I've often thought that if we had had a more drastic lockdown initially, and more people had complied that infection rates would have reduced more drastically and quickly than they did.

Another lockdown would be like closing the stable door......

Too many people don't care anymore.

mac12 · 16/09/2020 23:24

Nope I’m just wondering if this is credible & has anyone else heard anything along these lines. I know some Mumsnetters are well connected.

This guy is a member of Independent Sage, isn’t he?

PheasantPlucker1 · 16/09/2020 23:28

Two weeks would be pointless. Im not against a lockdown if needed, but only if it was done properly and was worthwhile.

HopeClearwater · 16/09/2020 23:30

@CoronaIsWatching he just loves lecturing us

You sound like a teenager at school. The guy is the Chief Medical Officer. Who are you?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 16/09/2020 23:32

No not a good idea and dh is ecv. Best to concentrate on areas with highest cases.

I would have the decency to resign if I had fucked up so spectacularly

MummyPop00 · 16/09/2020 23:34

Nope. No more lockdowns thanks. Been there, done that. Spain proves no matter how hard the lockdown, Covid finds a way again.

Worriedmum999 · 16/09/2020 23:34

I think it’s needed. Get cases down to a level that track and trace can handle again, give the new labs time to kick into gear and all before furlough ends!

movingonup20 · 16/09/2020 23:35

What about those of us who need to earn a living? Those kids at risk when they are not in school (newsnight tonight). Lockdown care homes, pay those of working age who are very vulnerable sufficient to stay at home if they can't work from home, delivery food to the vulnyamd let the rest of us live!

HeIenaDove · 16/09/2020 23:36

Well the first lockdown was supposed to be for 3 weeks. Ended up being 4 months. So they will say 2 weeks and the general public will hear 3 months. Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me!

Blackforesthotchoc · 16/09/2020 23:37

Yes let's go full peru. Have the severest possible lockdown and that'll definitely mean...oh wait. It doesn't. Because lockdowns do fuck all.

ohthegoats · 16/09/2020 23:39

IMO so few people are actually going as they've been asked means it would be pointless.

Yep. I'm not doing that again.

Chaotic45 · 16/09/2020 23:40

@movingonup20 I hear you and your very valid concerns. If it was possible to get a high level of compliance for a short sharp lockdown though, I think that the impact would be less than the stop start lockdowns and steady decline into chaos that is looming.

But it won't work, because too many people won't comply and TBH I understand why. We had our chance and the few ruined it for the many.

HeIenaDove · 16/09/2020 23:40

And then what A third lockdown A fourth A fifth.

HeIenaDove · 16/09/2020 23:41

Like Cummings you mean.

aprilanne · 16/09/2020 23:43

The first lockdown helped because people believed what they were being told now people realise the government dont have the first clue more people dying of pneumonia than covid .but let's still panic its numbers rising it's just the testing was so poor they didn't get accurate numbers .so now it's more realistic .I for one will being g ignoring nicola the woman is a moron

MJMG2015 · 16/09/2020 23:44

That's what the OP is clearly asking for! 🙄
Shehz21 · 16/09/2020 23:46

Oh eff that now.

RingORingORoses · 16/09/2020 23:47

what would a lockdown look like?

what would we be losing?

PumpkinsandAutumnLeaves · 16/09/2020 23:47

Can't see it happening.

Littleposh · 16/09/2020 23:48

Is he?? Cool. Any chance you could share some evidence of this??

Blackforesthotchoc · 16/09/2020 23:49

A second lockdown would look like Melbourne. Facistic police invading markets, arresting pregnant women, whilst the state Premier says "if they didn't protest it wouldn't happen", millions are out of work and there is no way out.
