"Can people please just stop getting tested? By being tested You are potentially adding to the problem and increasing the chances of taking us into a 2nd lockdown? The tests are not accurate because they detect fragments of RNA in people who aren't even infectious which are then counted as a "new case". All you are doing is giving the Government the numbers of new cases they're looking for to extend the emergency powers for 2 years and take us into a winter lockdown.

Just stop the testing and the false positives will disappear overnight! If you are seriously unwell call 111. But if you are well enough to get yourself to a testing centre then you are most likely fine. Quarantine at home for 2 weeks just to be on the safe side. Eat whole foods with plenty of cruciferous vegetables and take plenty of Zinc, Vitamin C and D3 and then crack on!

You don't need to wear a positive covid test like a badge of honour for absolutely no reason when you don't have any symptoms.

If you think spring/summer incarceration was bad, wait until it’s dark more than it is light, no garden to enjoy because it’s cold and rainy, no family festivities to look forward to, no christmas markets or shopping, no taking the kids to see Father Christmas? Plus your standard normal winter illnesses to throw into the mix and add to the COVID numbers regardless. This is what they need to drive the vaccination narrative.

More people will continue to die of suicide, hypertension and undiagnosed cancers than EVER before! Our elderly will die sooner than they should because they will be restricted to their usual things that keep them sane, like community groups and visits from their relatives.

We all need social interaction, we all need to exercise and mix with each other to get germs to thrive, to keep our immune system working and stay healthy. I don’t need a paid off scientist to do research to tell me that! END THIS NOW! “

I think that misses the point that most people don’t WANT to quarantine at home for a fortnight and a negative test allows them to resume normal life.

Frazzled13 · 15/09/2020 14:38

If people don’t get tested, government will be relying on number of people hospitalised with coronavirus as a way of telling how widespread it is. Testing the community gives an earlier warning system, meaning measures to prevent it spreading further can be implemented. Waiting until hospitals start seeing lots of cases will likely mean a stricter lockdown as it will be more widespread.

That assumes there will be more people hospitalised. That is not playing out at the moment.
yellowmaoampinball · 15/09/2020 14:42

If that was the government's evil plan (and why the hell would it be because how do they gain by a 2 year lockdown??), wouldn't they make more tests available instead of the shambles of a test situation we have now?

Jrobhatch29 · 15/09/2020 14:44

Loads of people on my FB keep sharing that. Including my colleagues and we work in a school!!
I have issue with this bit:
"Quarantine at home for 2 weeks just to be on the safe side"
Employers and schools will not be willing to allow 2 weeks off everytime someone in your house gets symptoms when you could get a test and return much quicker. Also loads of people won't want to be stuck indoors unnecessarily

EllieQ · 15/09/2020 14:45

“Stop the testing and the numbers will go down”. Seriously? Was it written by Donald Trump?

Marmite27 · 15/09/2020 14:45

I was symptom free, but had to have a Covid year to stay in hospital with my sick 2 year old. I wasn’t running around looking for a ‘badge of honour’ ffs.

Marmite27 · 15/09/2020 14:46

Covid test

Timeforanotherusername · 15/09/2020 14:46

2 words - Lisbon treaty Wink

SleepingStandingUp · 15/09/2020 14:48

Ok so I won't take a test.

When DS gets a cough next week I'll keep him off school for two weeks, and DH will tell work he needs to isolate because DS is symptomatic and were acting like he's positive. Then a few weeks down the line when the babies get a temperature I'll keep DS off school again and DH can take another two weeks off. His boss will be so happy were helping to lower the case numbers. When I get a bad cold a month from now and lose my taste and smell, well so the same, no school and no work. This is a great idea.

Except work are getting pissy and talking firing him and DS is now behind by 6 weeks of school.

This is such a good plan

wendz86 · 15/09/2020 14:50

I doubt many people want to test but if your workplace/school won't let you return without a negative test what are you meant to do?

SleepingStandingUp · 15/09/2020 14:51

Have two weeks off and swan around your house feeling smug you got over over on Boris
EllieQ · 15/09/2020 14:54

As a PP has said, given the choice between quarantining for two weeks if one of us has symptoms (meaning me trying to WFH so I don’t lose my job while explaining to my five-year-old that she can’t go to school, or to the playground, or even leave the house), or getting a test to show we don’t have COVID and can return to work, I’ll go for the test, thanks.

Can you explain why you think this might be a good idea?

Cakestandkitchen · 15/09/2020 14:55

No test means 2 weeks off work and school. We simply cannot afford no salary for 2 weeks at a time with school aged kids.

Crystal1975 · 15/09/2020 14:57

I think the “badge of honour” comment etc is unnecessary, but there is maybe a point about the false positives - was a thread on here last week about how many false positives the tests give and I was surprised to see how high that figure was.
Also, with the problems people are having trying to get tests I think a lot of people are ending up isolating anyway for 14 days by the time they get a test and the results 🤷‍♀️

I think one of the main problems is no one really trusts the governments figures on how many people have tested positive/passed away, and then with all the different rules that most of the time done make sense and are contradictory , people start looking at conspiracy theories etc , which is not surprising tbh!

Christ the brainiac genes really skipped a generation

12309845653ghydrvj · 15/09/2020 15:02

You do realise that the government hate spending money, and are facing huge economic difficulties because of Covid? And Tory donors are amongst those most keen to NOT have a lockdown at all? People who think the government actively want a lockdown have serious issues (including ignorance and irrationality...), the reason England did so badly in the first case was due to the Government’s desire to NOT lock down.

NoSquirrels · 15/09/2020 15:03

I DGAF if there are false positives and I think the general gist of that FB post is dumb. We can't go about our lives without effective test and trace. So we need to keep getting tested.

Sure, if you're unwell with a lot of the symptoms, stay at home for 2 weeks and do all the rest of it, along with your household if you're lucky enough to have understanding employers and the capacity to home ed your children for more weeks at a time.

But as most of us aren't in that rarefied situation, then... nah. I'll be testing - if tests are available.

12309845653ghydrvj · 15/09/2020 15:04

Also why would someone in decent health decide to lock themselves in for 2 weeks unnecessarily—sorry but someone who refuses to get a test due to conspiracies about the government has a bad case of the crazies. They either need MH help, or need to grow up.

loulouljh · 15/09/2020 15:06

Er...work? School? a life??!!! Staying in for two weeks simply not an option here. Animals to care for. A job to do!

There has never been a 'good point' first made on Facebook. Ever. Certainly not about something that is being already widely debated and contributed to by academics and experts in the UK.

If by more people you mean rising numbers then yes it is:

mobile.twitter.com/john_actuary/status/1305584496658481153

(Yes, still low numbers but rate of growth is a potential concern).

Echobelly · 15/09/2020 15:16

Unfortunately that post takes a rather conspiraloon view that the gov actually wants everyone to lock down and mess up the economy further or that there's loads of false positives, so you shouldn't take a test.

Bear in mind that kids with any of the symptoms can't return to school without a negative test or two weeks' isolation, and no one wants their kids to miss any more school right now. DS had a temp two days into school, which was luckily a Friday, luckily we got a test (albeit somewhere very inconvenient which someone from our area without a car could never reach) and luckily the result came back negative during the weekend.
