"Can people please just stop getting tested? By being tested You are potentially adding to the problem and increasing the chances of taking us into a 2nd lockdown? The tests are not accurate because they detect fragments of RNA in people who aren't even infectious which are then counted as a "new case". All you are doing is giving the Government the numbers of new cases they're looking for to extend the emergency powers for 2 years and take us into a winter lockdown.

Just stop the testing and the false positives will disappear overnight! If you are seriously unwell call 111. But if you are well enough to get yourself to a testing centre then you are most likely fine. Quarantine at home for 2 weeks just to be on the safe side. Eat whole foods with plenty of cruciferous vegetables and take plenty of Zinc, Vitamin C and D3 and then crack on!

You don't need to wear a positive covid test like a badge of honour for absolutely no reason when you don't have any symptoms.

If you think spring/summer incarceration was bad, wait until it’s dark more than it is light, no garden to enjoy because it’s cold and rainy, no family festivities to look forward to, no christmas markets or shopping, no taking the kids to see Father Christmas? Plus your standard normal winter illnesses to throw into the mix and add to the COVID numbers regardless. This is what they need to drive the vaccination narrative.

More people will continue to die of suicide, hypertension and undiagnosed cancers than EVER before! Our elderly will die sooner than they should because they will be restricted to their usual things that keep them sane, like community groups and visits from their relatives.

We all need social interaction, we all need to exercise and mix with each other to get germs to thrive, to keep our immune system working and stay healthy. I don’t need a paid off scientist to do research to tell me that! END THIS NOW! “

It just shows how selfish half of the human race are.

Jaxhog · 15/09/2020 16:27

Well, I kind of get the point, since less than 2.5% of tests are positive at the moment.

Heartlake · 15/09/2020 16:27

I think this post says more about people's (understandable lack of) understanding of data collection, statistics and epidemiology actually than anything else.

And also for a need to 'understand and be in control' of 'big scary things' that have a impact on our health and economic stability both as households and as a nation.

jb2941 · 15/09/2020 16:28

People need a negative result to go back to work and school!

HappyBumbleBee · 15/09/2020 16:29

Seriously? Stop testing so the numbers go down - did someone invite Trump to Mumsnet?

Nellodee · 15/09/2020 16:30

Don’t worry, you won’t have a choice soon.

Lindy2 · 15/09/2020 16:30

That has to be one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever seen on Facebook (and that's saying something!).

StealthPolarBear · 15/09/2020 16:34

Sorry when I said it's basic maths I appreciate it's quite complex maths! But what I mean is it's a feature of every test of this sort, they won't want false negatives and send someone out to spread the virus so the trade off will be a relatively higher false positive rate.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 15/09/2020 16:34

I bet a lot of the people sharing it don't have outside of the home jobs and school age children.

ktp100 · 15/09/2020 16:36

What a load of paranoid shite! And incredibly dangerous, to boot!!

What we now know is many people are selfish or stupid and absolutely will not do the right thing. If they haven't even got to get tested and they don't feel too bad they'll just crack on, spread it on to many others and the R rate will go through the roof.

In any testing facility some tests will be incorrect. In the midst of a global pandemic conditions for testing at many sites won't be as good as they would be at eg surgeries or Hospitals, nor do they have the ability to retest. It's bound to happen.

Has everyone forgotten about the 40 odd thousand dead people? Is nobody looking at America and thinking, shit, this could get worse?

All this paranoid bollox is just embarrassing. If you have symptoms, have a test. Do the right thing, FFS! And enough with the conspiracy theories!!

BatShite · 15/09/2020 16:40

Its not a good way to go obviously, as we need accurate numbers but its not wrong either. The conspiracy 'they want to lock us down' is nonsense IMO. However, the high number of infections is because so many are being tested. Less tests, less positives, always been that way. I never understood why people laughed at Trump for saying the same thing actually..that with more tests, we will obviously have more positives. Possibly one of the only times I have agreed with that guy;.

Inkpaperstars · 15/09/2020 16:42

The vaccination 'narrative'?
Sorry but this entire fb post is nonsense on every level. Can't believe anyone gives this spam a second thought.

BatShite · 15/09/2020 16:42

^that doesn't mean I agree with the nonsense FB post though. But the general idea behind the numbers thing is correct. The rest is shite. But clearly, if everyone stopped getting tested, the 'official' numbers would fall hugely (probably while actual numbers rose massively). Would be irresponsible as fuck though.

kimlo · 15/09/2020 16:43

the thing is only testing peolle who were ill enough to go in to hospital was the testing policy we had before and at the begining of lockdown, it was one of the mistakes the government made. It wasn't a good idea then and it's not a good idea now.

walksen · 15/09/2020 16:45

"All you are doing is giving the Government the numbers of new cases they're looking for to extend the emergency powers for 2 years and take us into a winter lockdown".

As opposed to not testing anyone until they start turning up in hospital like in February and march? We all know how that turned out...

rosie39forever · 15/09/2020 16:47

OMFG it's like the last 6 months didn't happen to some people.

linerforlife · 15/09/2020 16:48

God what a dangerous message. So pleased I'm not on FB!!

Yoffel · 15/09/2020 16:55

How narrow minded that FB post is. There are not many who can ‘just’ isolate for two weeks ‘to be sure’.

Notonthestairs · 15/09/2020 16:56

So stop testing now & pretend it's not happening. 🙄

FatGirlShrinking · 15/09/2020 16:59

@WiseUpJanetWeiss

*we currently have 38 people in hospital with Covid. 38*

Who is “we”? In the UK there are 108 COVID patients in mechanical ventilation beds according to today’s stats, the highest number since mid July.

And a total of 972 patients hospitalised currently with COVID in the UK.

I keep seeing this line on MN about all the false positives and the huge number of false positives, does anyone know what the rate of false positives is? Because I ended up in hospital on Sunday , not COVID, but similar symptoms and every single medical practitioner I saw and told I'd had a negative COVID test was telling me about the 30-40% false NEGATIVE rate not false positive.

BatShite · 15/09/2020 17:02

IMO false negatives are WAY more concerning than false positives.

Heffalooomia · 15/09/2020 17:04

the government's evil plan
they are not smart or organised enough for an evil plan
all they do is cycle through cock up/cover up

coffeeandgin26 · 15/09/2020 17:07

What a load of bollocks.

There's no government agenda to keep us locked down for for years. What would they gain from that?

If we show symptoms, we will test. We will test because we can't afford to be off work two weeks every time one of our four children cough. They can't have more time off unless absolutely necessary.

IncidentsandAccidents · 15/09/2020 17:08

“Stop the testing and the numbers will go down”. Seriously? Was it written by Donald Trump?

^This! What utter nonsense.

Namara · 15/09/2020 17:08

That FB post is the biggest load of bullshit I've ever read in my life.

The main way to contain the pandemic IS to test and trace ffs!!

If there aren't enough tests it's the fault of our 'world beating' charade of a government.
