Everyone I have spoken to, or seen on SM have said how stupid it is and they will not be following the rule /law.

My dbs manager who owns the workplace. Was due to have a get together at home next sunday for their teens birthday.
They are now doing it at work. ( a garage.)
Has now said by doing it there and ' booking in the relatives cars for a visual inspection /safety check ' whilst waiting they could get together on forecourt spaced out, Because they would be 'customers' and they would be at work. And it's no different to it being random customers just because it's family.
So there would be 2 cars' booked in' one of. Which is a couple., one a family Of 3. Plus their own household of 4 (the teens work there weekends cleaning etc anyway)

Which made me think how silly the rule is. They can't do that in their garden but can on a forecourt (the garage is not on a main road or anything and out the way so unlikely to be seen)

I thought the "rule" was now "law" and so not negotiable?

I will be following the rules, in fact I'll be only mixing with one other household at a time and would not mix with another two households even if there were less than six people.
My DC are going to school and this is the only risk I will take.
I want school to stay open so I will minimise other interaction.

Most will carry on regardless of any rules.

I think those that have been affected by the virus, those vulnerable or family members who are and those that care about the wider society will.

There will be many who won’t though as selfish wants come before the big picture and the laws will get tougher and more restrictions in place.

Let's hope they all enjoy Christmas dinner in the garage too, because the rule of 6 will still be in at that point thanks to morons like that!

Well, we'll stick to it even though it's utterly stupid.

It's a pain because we're a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) and know lots of similar families. Now we can't meet up with a 2nd family for a socially distanced catch-up any more. This is the social pattern that's got us through the summer.

But I could go out on my own and meet up with 5 randoms from 5 different households, which is a much bigger risk.

What a pile of crap it is. We literally hardly know anyone socially except for couples with kids. So now we can't see our friends.

I presume 'caring about the wider society' doesn't include caring about people who have committed suicide due to lockdown, or who have ended up stuck in house for months on end with abusive family members? It also doesn't include caring about the effect of job losses, poverty, lack of education and lack of money for public services? Or the people who have had diagnoses and treatment for other illnesses stopped or delayed?

As long as it's coronavirus you're massively caring. Anything else, you don't give a fuck. Is that it?

Let's hope so otherwise we will end up in lockdown again.

I hope young people about to head to uni will follow the rules. They’re about to descend on my home town in a few weeks and I suspect we will see a rise in cases.

Like all the previous rules, some will follow them, some won't.

I think they will mostly here going by compliance generally but it probably differs around the U.K.

Only on Mumsnet. Most people I have spoken to and on sites other than Mumsnet, say they will do as they wish.

A few people posting on Mumsnet isn’t representative of the UK and Mumsnet seems to be derided by people in real life. No idea why!

I will because I don’t mix much anyway and see it as a good way not to be able to attend the obligatory gatherings that usually happen around Xmas time. I sure a lot of people won’t, especially inside houses so out of sight

This genuinely doesn't make sense to me. If we all follow the 'rule of six' and it's very effective, then it'll keep infections down. Then if we open up in time for Christmas, infections will go up again. It's just a pointless merry-go-round.

I don't really go anywhere to see more than six people however no I won't be following it and I don't know anyone who is.

People are a bit stupid on this. If numbers keep going up eg like Spain, not Belgium, we will get more restrictions.

No I don't because some people are proving to be arseholes. These people will be the ones screaming the loudest when restrictions are tightened because they couldn't follow the law.

Of course they're right. For the police to fine you they have to prove you're a 'group.' If you happen to be in the park at the same time as people you know, that's not a crime. You are also allowed to talk to people you know. So in that context, the 'rule' is completely pointless.

I will, and believe the majority will. Many won’t, and many more will shout about it being ‘ridiculous’ but in practice will comply just like they do with face coverings.

I have zero intention of not meeting with another family in our garden on the basis that we would number seven. That’s utter bollocks. I also won’t be going to a pub with five other friends from five other households, which is allowed, because it’s far riskier and not something I’m comfortable. I will continue to apply critical thinking and my own judgement of ACTUAL risk, and not follow arbitrary rules so that I can pay myself on the back for doing my bit while possibly doing things that are actually quite risky (e.g. pubs with multiple households). I will do my bit using my best intelligent judgement of my own individual circumstances and will sleep soundly at night.

Of course the govt has to plan at a population level and not account for every individual situation. But I truly believe that if we apply the rules with common sense and intelligence, the overall effect will be the same. No govt minister actually believes that a family of three meeting a family of four is more risky than six individuals from six households meeting up. They just have to draw the lines simply and clearly at some point. My conscience would be absolutely clear in braking them in certain circumstances. It wouldn’t, however, be clear if I visited an elderly relative the morning after sitting in a busy pub which is ‘allowed’.
