I got nearly to the end then it just kind of reset and I didn’t get a confirmation email either. So that means it didn’t work?

Our local centre used to be walk in, apparently it changed to appointments only on the 9th of September and the statement the council made was interesting:

This is due to an instruction from central government for the site to be appointment only; not an issue with the site operations locally.
Unfortunately this is not something we, as the council, have any control over, but we are very concerned about the effect this has on our residents and town and have expressed our views strongly to the government.

Of course DS1's cough started on the 10th...Angry

My son has a cough but it could be pet hair related. Keeping an eye on it today and will book a test this evening if necessary. I'm finding it worrying the distance some people are having to drive. My electric car will only go so far!

I’m a primary school teacher and started the inevitable back to school cold on Friday. Spent the night and all day yesterday coughing.

I’ve tried continuously to book a test because of the cough but can’t - I’ve had a couple of tests before and 24 hour turn round in results so was hoping for a saturday afternoon test, Sunday results and back into class on Monday.

Looks like that won’t be the case - balls.

Same here :(

I can report some good news. After lots of googling I found that my local council, Leeds, has walk in centers. Most of the info said I needed an appointment but the council website said something like it was best if I had an appointment, not that I totally had to have one. So I drove there with DD and just walked straight in. No queues, no questions, loads of space, no waiting. Was in and out in 10 mins!

@0ellenbrody0 keep trying. I've been refreshing (re-entering details) since 2am and about half an hour ago slots came up. It gave me the option of 3 nearby centres and most had 25+ appointments for later on this afternoon.

SweetBabyJebus · 13/09/2020 11:35

Took me 13 hours and 21 minutes of refreshing the web page, but finally managed to get a confirmed slot last night. Thought it would go the way of my previous efforts and take me to the beginning like PP's but I got the confirmation through by text and email immediately.

We went this morning, and it was efficient and quick, absolute minimal wait time, just one or two in front, but there were lots and lots of people outside the test centre on the street asking to be let in with no appointment and all were being turned away. We needed the QR code from the appointment email because they scan that with the label on the testing bag and that's how they verify it's yours. There was no paperwork done, all electronic.

Good luck to those still trying. All I can say is keep refreshing and using different postcodes. It took all day, but I got there in the end. Here's hoping for a bloody negative result now... Hmm

PeachiceT · 13/09/2020 11:59

It took me all day Friday to get an apt for DS. Finally got a apt at 6pm for test centre 30m drive away sat morning and received the negative test result back first thing this morning ! The test centre only had two cars in front and was very straight forward . Though the test is not very nice for children and if they are under 11 they ask you to do the test .

Snailsetssail · 13/09/2020 17:25

What’s really annoying is I went to the test site this afternoon and there was no other cars there at all! The staff were sat in the sunshine twiddling their thumbs!

mummyof4kids · 13/09/2020 22:18

@Level75 wish I'd known that a few days ago.! Was refreshing for 45 minutes to get a rest near me in Leeds, no walk in ones available but managed to get one eventually.
Out of interest where did you go to be tested?
