Just got a test!!!!

I’ve been trying every hour since yesterday.

SistemaAddict · 11/09/2020 14:27

I've been trying to get through to 119 to arrange courier collection but I get cut off as it's so busy. Today is the last day I can test us. I've got a test for ds only but no one well enough to go out and post it. Courier option in theory available if only I could get through. No one needs the extra stress of this when they or a child is unwell especially when schools or workplaces are putting on pressure.

Tonkerbea · 11/09/2020 14:41

I've been trying all day. I could cry with frustration. This isn't right.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 14:53

@Bercows that sounds awful. Can’t imagine all being ill. Only one of us is ill so far. I’ve still not had any joy with a test- really worried we won’t get one

Tonkerbea · 11/09/2020 14:54

Does anyone know if they release more appointments after the morning batch?

MummyFriend · 11/09/2020 14:56

I've been trying now for three days straight. My tendonitis in my wrist has flared up from refreshing the page so much and filling out that damn form over and over when the site crashes. I'm so angry and frustrated and now I'm in additional pain too. This situation is totally unacceptable.

MayFayre · 11/09/2020 14:59

@Tonkerbea

Does anyone know if they release more appointments after the morning batch?
It seems to me that they release them on the hour?

A whole lot of Edgbaston slots were released for me at noon today and a few Leicester ones at 1pm.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 15:00

What’s the window in which you can have the test? Is it 3 or 4 days from start of symptoms?

noseresearch · 11/09/2020 15:02

I couldn’t get a slot at all online - and the nearest test centre that came up for me (with no slots) was too far away anyway Hmm

But then I called up my local community testing number, left a voicemail - 10 mins later I was called back and given a testing slot which is very close to my home (I don’t live in a big town)

I was given the local community testing number from the restaurant I recently visited

wizzler · 11/09/2020 15:08

Just to enrage everyone even more.. when I arrived at the drive through centre yesterday we were the only car there... no one in front of us and no one behind us.. loads of staff. loads of bays, and just me and dd!

noseresearch · 11/09/2020 15:09

Can’t speak for other areas, but I do know in West Midlands - BirminghamMail had reported despite some test centres having no availability, they found other ones are virtually empty.

Definitely believable as when I tried booking online, only one test centre other side of Birmingham was listed (which is much further than some of the less busy test centres mentioned in article)

Now that I’ve instead called up the local community testing number - I was offered many slots in a convenient location which didn’t come up at all online

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 11/09/2020 15:13

Still no joy here. I must have refreshed thousands of times. I've emailed my MP. Deputy head at DS's school been very helpful, and she is getting frustrated with the system too - I guess she is seeing this many times over. Meanwhile DS's cough has all but disappeared.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 11/09/2020 15:21

I’m in Hertfordshire - same message so looking at buying one. They have £99 tests in Lloyd’s pharmacy

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 15:22

Thanks @SomethingM1ss1ng - may be cheaper than travelling across the country!

SomethingM1ss1ng · 11/09/2020 15:36

I though 5 days
SomethingM1ss1ng · 11/09/2020 15:37

My daughter has a nose full of snot and no symptoms except she coughs a little once every hour or so..and that too due to her asthma..should I still get a test?

BubbleShot · 11/09/2020 15:41

I've been trying since this morning, I thought I had got one but after I put my car reg in it went to the first page again. This is a nightmare

PurpleDaisies · 11/09/2020 15:42

I’ve just sent an email to my mp. I’m so angry about the incompetence of this.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 15:45

@BubbleShot we had the same with getting to car reg and then it going back to start! Happened for a couple- so annoying!!

UnalliterativeGeorge · 11/09/2020 15:50

I've been trying all day and got nowhere except back to the beginning twice. So frustrating! Especially trying to do it all with DD clinging all over me as she's the one who's ill and DS asking a million questions because he's fine but can't go to school today. I've emailed my MP who is super busy updating his Facebook so we can all see his photo of Margaret thatcher in his office Hmm

Thankfully we have a mobile walk in one tomorrow nearby that we'll have to go to instead which will be a super fun day out for everybody.

It’s not about the staff to carry out the test, it’s the capacity of the labs to process the swab and report the result.
ChessIsASport · 11/09/2020 16:08

It has been in the news for days. Not sure why you think it hasn’t been reported.

DisorganisedOrganiser · 11/09/2020 17:23

Chess, it has been briefly reported when there was the shit apology for it given. It is not in any of the BBC news programmes now and is not in the headlines. This should be headline news. It needs to run and run so pressure is put on the government. We need journalists to actually do their jobs and be a force for change here.

What has also barely been in the news is that expert public health staff are not even able to to what they are expert in since the government insists on centralised running of this chaos.

PeachiceT · 11/09/2020 17:36

Where do you get the community testing phone number from?our local information page says to still book through the website , which I have been trying all day and closest that came up was 60 miles away !

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 18:15

Just got one! So pleased. Hope everyone gets one soon
