what does this mean when it shows up on the NHS site. I am in the Manchester area.

I've been trying since 2.30am and had no luck. DH work has just told him we all need to test negative ASAP before he can return, but it's only one DC with symptoms, and I can't even get a test for him let alone the other 3 of us!

Quail15 · 11/09/2020 08:11

@Tomatoesneedtoripen no it's not but my dds nursery are refusing to have her back until she has a negative test so I can't go to work. The whole thing is crazy.

Ohyeahs · 11/09/2020 08:11

@AllTheWhoresOfMalta

My DD was sent home on Tuesday with a very obvious cold. Have been trying since 11am on Tuesday to get a test... no joy yet (in London). Trying every couple of hours including throughout the night. When I’ve spoken to anyone at 119 they just say that everyone is in the same boat. It’s ridiculous. This can’t go on all winter.
Why is he getting tested when it’s a cold? It’s Covid symptoms only and this is why the problems are happening

You need to explain the rules. This is not the governments fault. This is the public and schools/nursery’s going overboard.

AestheticWitch · 11/09/2020 08:13

@Tomatoesneedtoripen

But a cold isnt covid
Do we need to get tested with colds? My DD has a sore throat. Nothing else. No cough, no temperature. If everybody takes a test with a cold the system will fall apart. As will the country as you have to self isolate until you can get a test.
spacegirl86 · 11/09/2020 08:21

Don't backdate it. You can't get a test more than five days after onset of symptoms. One of my class delayed and since he can't get a test now is having to wait the full self isolation time for what is probably a cold (but with overlapping symptoms)

Anthilda · 11/09/2020 08:22

Our family have had what I believe is a cold but because I told my childcare provider that one of my children has a cough she insisted that the other child is not to return to her care until we ALL have a negative covid test. Ofsted guidelines apparently.

This is going to be chaotic for everyone throughout winter while coughs and colds are rampant.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 11/09/2020 08:24

someone needs to tell school/nursery that covid isnt a cold

imagine if people refused to go into work because of a cold

and of course the children are now being exposed to all sorts of bugs

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 08:24

Sorry haven’t been able to read entire thread. Eventually got through on the phone as we also have no ‘test sites found’ on the website. The call handler said it’s a technical glitch and was happening yesterday. She said to keep refreshing throughout the day and she said the test centres are empty because of this!!

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 11/09/2020 08:29

what a shambles
i guess you just have to assume one way or the other and wait for the symptoms to go

1happyhippie · 11/09/2020 08:29

Can you just turn up at a test site?
We have two in our area, walk in and drive through.
Every time I have gone past they seem empty!

Bumblesbumbles · 11/09/2020 08:30

The call handler said you can’t just turn up as it needs to be booked for processing!

1happyhippie · 11/09/2020 08:32

@Bumblesbumbles
Thankyou.

This is a complete farce

user1471530109 · 11/09/2020 08:46

When we went yesterday, people in front were turned away. 2 car fulls. I'm assuming they hadn't booked.

I got an appt at 10am. Just keep refreshing that last page. I had to drive 30 miles away though (nearest one!). It appeared as though they released approx 25 slots at each test centre 'near' us at 10am. I've heard there are other magic times Hmm.

We have a cold. But it's turned into a cough and I fully support the school in their decision. You can't blame them for not wanting kids in with a cough (they were happy to have them with a snotty nose). Imagine the outcry on here is classmates were coughing! As a teacher I'd be furious too.

Justajot · 11/09/2020 08:47

Is this part of Matt Hancock's people are having tests who don't need one? With parents stuck in the middle.

MayFayre · 11/09/2020 08:51

Same here . So frustrating.

Ds has a cough and a a sore throat. Almost certainly a cold but school have told him to get tested.

Website says ‘no test site found‘, 119 refers me back to the website due to the high volume of calls.

Sharpandshineyteeth · 11/09/2020 09:00

3 tests sights near me and can’t get an appointment for any of them. I have been refreshing since 2am last night. I finally got through on 119 to be told there weren’t any and just keep trying the website.

PeachiceT · 11/09/2020 09:07

Same here , been trying for the past 3hrs , I'm in Essex !!

MayFayre · 11/09/2020 09:55

I just messaged my brother who works at one of the testing sites in Manchester. Until a couple of weeks ago they had been doing 8000 tests a day. Today they have 3 booked in!!!

covidity · 11/09/2020 10:01

There has been an massive increase in the numbers wanting a test. A new lab is due to open later this month which will increase test processing capacity.

Once the slots in the system allocated to each test site have been booked it will automatically go to the next nearest site and so on, which is why some were being sent miles away- it was the nearest site with availability.

Once it says not sites found’ it means no available slots anywhere.

Slots are added on the day so keep trying or you could book a home test.

It is not an issue with taking the swabs but processing them in the labs.

Only try to book a test if you fulfil the testing criteria.

Tenner · 11/09/2020 10:05

it also says no home test kits available. Hmm

DisorganisedOrganiser · 11/09/2020 10:05

Absolute nightmare getting a test. Of course there has been a huge increase. Can’t imagine that being predictable in any way with kids going back to school Hmm.

No home testing kits available AT ALL here. Lots of friends are struggling as their kids have coughs and temps having gone back to school.

SistemaAddict · 11/09/2020 10:14

Same here. I've been trying since Monday. I need postal tests. School
Have given me one for ds but all four of us need a test.

Quail15 · 11/09/2020 10:15

I've just got a test booked for 8pm tonight.
I'm in Kent and got booked in at Gatwick airport.

I have basically spent the last 3 hrs constantly hitting the walk-in centre/drive through button.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 11/09/2020 10:15

I now have a problem in that I managed to get through to book in the local drive through test site but when I clicked confirm it just went back to the first page about how to book a test so I've no idea if it booked or not. It's so frustrating!
