Anyone not even been on uk break this year?

Are you next year?

Me! We usually go on at least 3 UK breaks a year, but I figured everywhere would be packed, it'd be a pain to go out anywhere (and not sure how I feel about eating out etc yet) and so j judg didn't fancy it.

I've got something booked for Feb half term, which I really hope will happen.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 10/09/2020 11:55

Me. I didn't want to go away and spend lots of money when I wouldn't be able to do exactly what I wanted. To me, it wouldn't be a break, just more work/stress but in a different location.
I did do some spur of the moment stuff, like a beach trip on days when the weather was nice but not so hot that beaches would be heaving.
I would like to do something next year but it depends on how things are tbh. I was planning Greece for this year but I'm glad we didn't go in the end.

Baaaahhhhh · 10/09/2020 11:55

No point. Weather was fantastic, I have a nice garden, invested in new garden furniture and umbrellas instead. Had a lovely long relaxing summer.

HairyFloppins · 10/09/2020 11:55

Nope just couldn't face the crowds and couldn't justify the cost.

JayDot500 · 10/09/2020 11:57

We usually travel around maybe 3 times a year. We've not left our town since March. As soon as we feel safe enough to (DH is vulnerable) we will be holidaying like crazy. We've already got Eurostar vouchers to redeem next year, and plan to go to the US for Xmas. Staying optimistic!

Even though DH is vulnerable, we didn't fancy driving miles to be a sardine on a UK beach, or having a diminished experience of a place due to Covid rules.

ProfYaffle · 10/09/2020 12:00

We haven't. I did think about it but at the time Hotels were sounding like hard work, make up your own beds, no breakfast etc. We live close to a touristy area so have been going on day trips locally.

We had been hoping to get away over the October half term but I'm not so sure about that now either!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 10/09/2020 12:04

We didn't, we cancelled our holiday in Italy and spent the money doing house projects instead, which we couldn't afford to do otherwise.

I am, however, ok countdown to next summer with fingers properly crossed.

Comefromaway · 10/09/2020 12:06

Me. Due to needing to be around for GCSE & A level results days and college enrolments and our available dates were very limited. I looked for something self catering but there was nothing affordable available.

We are hopefully going to London for an overnight theatre stay in half term but ds has a different half term than dd and dh.

Comefromaway · 10/09/2020 12:07

But we are struggling with somewhere that will provide breakfast and store luggage.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/09/2020 12:08

No, didn’t seem worth the risk and we aren’t eating out currently so it wouldn’t have been a break.

Not booking anything for next year then can’t be disappointed. It’s all to uncertain still.

fabulousathome · 10/09/2020 12:08

Nope. DH's special birthday in January but not keen to go to UK at that time and don't really want to fly.

I suggested he might like a new sofa instead....

speakout · 10/09/2020 12:11

I would imagine most people have not had a break this year.

OpEd · 10/09/2020 12:12

Nope, haven't had a week away since 2018. No real reason why, I'm quite a home body!

marriednotdead · 10/09/2020 12:13

Nope. Had 2 nights at my sisters a couple of weeks ago, been nowhere apart from that. Enjoyed the sunshine in my own garden.

CuteOrangeElephant · 10/09/2020 12:14

Nope. We weren't going to anyway as we moved house this summer.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/09/2020 12:16

No. But that’s pretty much the same as most years.

Sunbird24 · 10/09/2020 12:16

I managed to get in a week overseas in Jan but been absolutely nowhere since, just work and home

RaininSummer · 10/09/2020 12:16

Not been anywhere and no plans to. Been out to moors, woods and quiet beach with dog.

Viv0321 · 10/09/2020 12:17

Cuteorange- Congrats on moving homes

Everyone that’s not been this year did you take your DC on day trips? We’ve been to the beach etc

OP posts:
feelingverylazytoday · 10/09/2020 12:19

No, I never have holidays anyway.

Comefromaway · 10/09/2020 12:20

Mine are teens. Dd went in her grandparents caravan for a weekend but ds hates caravans. There was no way we were going to a crowded beach.

TheEndisCummings · 10/09/2020 12:22

we haven't. I just didn't feel safe enough on public transport and in hotels. We don't have all the clobber to go camping and no transport. Somehow the summer disappeared. I console myself with the idea that where I live is a major tourist destination - but that doesn't wash with the children.

We had one half day trip. Poor DC!

RevolutionRadio · 10/09/2020 12:22

We fortunately went on one in March just before we started working from home.

We would usually have been on one in June and another one in September.

fluffi · 10/09/2020 12:23

Me. Not been on a break anywhere and normally go abroad twice a year.

Haven't been further than 6 miles from my home since March Sad
