Anyone not even been on uk break this year?

Are you next year?

OP posts:
Letsleepingdogslie8 · 10/09/2020 14:02

Nope. It doesn’t feel like a holiday to me unless it is abroad. I always begrudge the money and end up thinking about how expensive the UK is and how much more you can get for your money elsewhere. Also the lack of reliability in terms of weather doesn’t help.

IrmaFayLear · 10/09/2020 14:06

No. big summer holiday cancelled.

In the Uk everything was booked which indicates places would be packed. Even looking at November this year nice cottages seem quite booked up.And add into the mix having to pre-book museums/NT etc and having to predict the weather weeks in advance.... no thank you. Bought a new garage door instead !

NewAutumnName · 10/09/2020 14:21

I have been lucky to have had 3 UK weekend breaks and would say that the places we stayed were covid safe and really lovely.

If you get the chance do take a break in the UK. There are lots of lovely places around. Many coastal towns are fairly low in transmission rates and a break away can be really good for the mental health and well being.

ilovecherries · 10/09/2020 14:26

Nope, by the time we were out of shielding, everyone else seemed to be on holiday and it didn’t feel safe. Decided to wait a while, and of course cases are now rising again. So no, no holiday anywhere this year.

MyCatReallyIsAGit · 10/09/2020 14:28

No, would have loved a week away but Covid started just as we were thinking about holidays and then at the point where we might have booked something, we didn’t feel confident about it. Plus we were restricted to school holidays and the prices were rocketing. And the amount of gear we would have needed with a baby vs the size of our car wasn’t ideal.

We have spent time with family and done day trips but a lot of the stuff we would have done has been off the table as it’s been too hot or torrential rain.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/09/2020 14:28

I haven't. We were supposed to go to Butlins at Easter but it was obviously closed at that point. We were supposed to go abroad in July but that was cancelled by Tui.

I can't get any more time off work this year because we are very busy. I've moved all holidays to next year, beginning in February. I'll go then if I can.

GreekOddess · 10/09/2020 14:36

Me. All of our breaks have had to be cancelled.

I have a UK break booked in October and a European city break at Christmas but I'm not confident that they will go ahead.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 10/09/2020 15:50

Haven't had a holiday since 2013 when we set up our own business.
So....same old same old really.

cologne4711 · 10/09/2020 16:45

We've not been away since lockdown except to visit my mother. We were meant to go to Scotland at the end of May, and postponed until last week. However, we weren't really feeling it (it seemed like those who weren't in Cornwall or West Wittering (or Bournemouth or Barnard's Castle) were all in Scotland and I don't like crowds at the best of times), and more to the point my son's 6th form college started a week earlier than planned, so we didn't go.

We did however go to Germany right at the start of the year, and ds also had a college trip to Rome shortly before everything went mad, so it hasn't been a complete wash-out of a year.

cologne4711 · 10/09/2020 16:46

Bought a new garage door instead

I bought a cycling smart trainer the weekend before lockdown which cost about the same as the accommodation in Scotland would have cost :)

deplorabelle · 10/09/2020 16:51

Not been away either. Shielding till August and working crazy hours from home for the NHS - weekends, evenings, bank holidays and 7.30am starts and I was lazy compared to many colleagues.

We did have one day trip to the beach in the pouring rain and we have had some lovely walks in our local area when we've been free.

Normally love to holiday in the UK or European city destinations but we travel by public transport so it will be a while before I feel confident to book anything new.

I have days of feeling quite disgruntled about it but I try to remember how lucky we are to be able to work from home and have a nice garden and house which many don't have.

CeeJay81 · 10/09/2020 16:55

Us, cause we don't have a car and the idea of wearing a mask for several hours, plus being close to lots of people wouldn't have been fun. We've seen none of my family for the same reason but now it looks like it's going to get bad again, I've decided to visit some family next weekend and deal with the 4 hour train journey.

Egghead68 · 10/09/2020 16:55

Same @deplorabelle, while suffering from long Covid. A holiday would be nice but I’ve no safe way of getting anywhere.

Roselilly36 · 10/09/2020 16:57

We haven’t gone anywhere either OP, can’t see the point at the moment, too restrictive. We have really enjoyed our garden and the weather has been decent for a change.

Whirlwind14 · 10/09/2020 17:11

No... we live in Cornwall so making the most of the beaches, particularly now it’s quietened down.

We shouldve been in Mexico now... 🤦‍♀️

annabel85 · 10/09/2020 17:13

I wasn't out my house longer than an hour or two from March to July. Been out longer a couple of times the last month or so to meet up with people (pubs/restaurant) and was just starting to feel more confident to go out and socialise. That's completely gone now this week and even shopping feels anxiety inducing again.

Bol87 · 10/09/2020 17:17

We’ve had a couple .. why wouldn’t you if you fancied one? They were lovely family holidays spent on the beach, country parks, doing outdoor activities with my kiddos, loadsa yummy food that we mostly self catered but just let ourselves eat whatever we fancied, one of the breaks we had a hot tub, that was lovely in the evening! In all honesty, probs less stressful than abroad. I wasn’t stressing about suncream or my fussy eater not liking anything! We did get lucky with the weather though on both. One week was a heatwave & one was very pleasant! We are getting married next year, so hopefully still going on honeymoon.. I’m bracing myself for it not happening though..

friendlycat · 10/09/2020 17:18

No. To us it would not have felt like a holiday with all the restrictions and risk at the moment. But we do live near the coast circa 25 minutes away and can and do visit quiet unspoilt pebbly beaches for days out.
I don't want to eat out either at the moment frankly which is something we used to do regularly. Christmas holiday was booked way before this but we won't be going and will just lose the flight money and accommodation is pay on arrival so it's not much of a loss really.
I'm now not going to book anything going forward until things are better however long that may be.

Whitney168 · 10/09/2020 17:19

Nope. One major planned foreign holiday and three foreign short breaks this year all cancelled - well, four actually, although final one was a late opportunity that I wasn't ever convinced would come off - plus one UK break that we were due to have in May.

Did look at booking something in the UK for September, but there was barely anything available and by the time you've read about everything being stripped out of cottages, late check-in/early check-out, plus mask wearing etc., just couldn't get that interested in it.

Have had the odd day out, but have enjoyed the novelty value of time at home really, and garden is looking lovely. Bring foreign travel back for next year though, please!

napody · 10/09/2020 17:21

No, just day trips and one overnight camp locally. We do live somewhere pretty and a bit touristy though.

GreenPlum · 10/09/2020 17:22

I had two days out in February. I care for my dad and haven't wanted to get agency carer in so I've not been anywhere.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 10/09/2020 17:26

Nope everywhere we wanted to go was fully booked most likely by people who look down their noses at people who holiday in UK but funnily enough a UK holiday was good enough for them this year

Yes hopefully next year.

Bargebill19 · 10/09/2020 18:44

We haven’t. Not even day trips. Our daily lives are rules by clock watching. Being in holiday in covid times means living by a clock if we want to visit any attractions - no spontaneity, so we might as well stay home.
We are considering next year, but as I’ve changed to a term time job, I doubt we shall bother. Personally, holidays are the same crap with different scenery and a lot of packing and cleaning, so I’d rather stay at home!!

LadyCatStark · 10/09/2020 18:58

Well I hadn’t thought of it like that but, no, we haven’t! We’ve had 2 forgiven holidays cancelled. We do live by the sea and within an hour of the Lake District though so, with the summer we’ve had, there’s been no need to go anywhere else!

FelineUK · 10/09/2020 19:53

Me. DH initially not wanting to stay in a public place for fear of catching CV and then finally agreeing to an overnight by which time it was too flippin late! Planning two weeks in Europe next May hopefully!!! God.. when is it ever go to go away?!!
