Anyone not even been on uk break this year?

Are you next year?

I havent been abroad since 2016.

I havent had a UK "break" for a few years.

But i have spent the last 2 years living within 5 mins walk from a lovely beach that's a bit of a tourist trap so i generally consider every nice day a holiday so it evens out Smile

daisypond · 10/09/2020 19:57

We haven’t.

Viv0321 · 11/09/2020 09:20

We were considering next year. Wonder how things will be then.

No. I usually have 3 short breaks in the UK but nothing this year. Not booking ahead for next year either. For me part of the pleasure is looking forward to the holiday, but as restrictions are changing so frequently and without warning I could book something and then have to cancel. I'm going to wait until everything feels safer and more stable, which could be a long time away. Very fed up, I love holidays.

Probably a bit late now for those with school age DC but not everywhere in the UK had packed beaches . We went away last week July and have a picture of us in the middle of the day , sun shining , on a beach in Wales with just me, DH and our dog !

We are away again to a busier resort in a couple of weeks so will have to see how that is. Hopefully will not be too bad Mon-Fri.

I do feel for anyone without a car and not wanting to risk public transport

jessstan2 · 11/09/2020 10:09

I haven't been away but it has been nice at home.

Feellikedancingyeah · 11/09/2020 11:28

Not been abroad for 16 years. First holiday we had for 8 years waa 2 nights in Edinburgh

bloodywhitecat · 11/09/2020 11:33

We haven't and we don't know about next year either. All OH annual leave has been used on his hospital appointments and we don't know what the future holds for him so everything is on hold until we do.

everythingisginandroses · 11/09/2020 13:55

Not been anywhere since Feb half-term when we had a few days in Brighton. We don't have a car, considered hiring one for a day trip but it seems to have become a bit of a faff. Covid made me sick for weeks and weeks, DH and DS also poorly, so not keen to be out amongst people until things have settled down a bit and more is known about immunity.

knittingaddict · 11/09/2020 16:01

No, we haven't been away this year, apart from a weekend away late Jan/early Feb to Oxford. My husband started that weekend with a Covid type illness and I was ill with the same thing by the time we came home, 2 days later. If we had the same symptoms now I would definitely be getting a test.

We have a few days booked towards the end of this month in our touring caravan, but that may not go ahead if numbers keep rising.

My single parent daughter and her primary aged children haven't been away at all.

Viv0321 · 11/09/2020 20:13

Shiny - can I ask where you stayed ?

Thanks for everyone’s replies.

We haven’t . Worried about prices being bumped up , restrictions on what we might be able to do and where we could eat .
Just enjoyed being in London with less people around .

U8myufo · 13/09/2020 19:37

No I haven't. Was planning a long distance walking break over 6 days but that was back in May and it had to be cancelled. Haven't been able to go since then. I am hoping maybe next year.

stardance · 13/09/2020 19:39

No we haven't. We had a long weekend booked for the end of March and another for July, obviously neither happened. We really need to get away!

RepeatSwan · 13/09/2020 19:40

We didn't, we just didn't have the energy, we stayed home and had a very nice time, I couldn't have faced a busy place and nothing was cheap was it!

AuntieMarys · 13/09/2020 19:41

We haven't. Had 3 holidays booked, one in Wales. We are doing 2 city breaks here next month...hopefully

Saucery · 13/09/2020 19:44

We had a few days away on the Yorkshire coast in Feb. It was weird - I felt in Jan I had to get away in half term so booked it when we don’t usually go away in that school holiday. Maybe it was a premonition Grin

I don’t feel like the faff of having to plan around restrictions in different parts of the UK, or an evening check in etc are worth a few days away right now. We do live in day driving distance of a National Park though, so we’ve done a few walking days out.
No Oct or Christmas break planned either.

AliasGrape · 13/09/2020 19:50

We haven’t but then I’ve been pregnant and now have a newborn.

We normally visit family abroad at least once a year, have another trip abroad together and maybe one separately with friends, then a couple of uk trips even if just one night. I have really really missed it. We are considering a few nights in October but I’m hesitant- more for newborn reasons than virus related.

Witchend · 13/09/2020 20:05

I've actually been on more than usual. We normally do an Easter break for a week, and then can only fit a long weekend in over the summer between our work commitments and the dc's activities.
This year I've managed 2 UK breaks in August as I was furloughed and the dc's activities didn't happen.

Cet73 · 13/09/2020 20:24

There are lots of families - albeit the minority - like ours, that haven't been able to have a holiday anywhere owing to child's chronic health condition. Not even a weekend as a family to Grandparents
. And there must be many more who can't due their finances not allowing for holidays. I'd LOVE a holiday...any respite. I think now is a good time to put in perspective the range of circumstances families find themselves in.

Cet73 · 13/09/2020 20:25

....missed out 'for years'....not been able to have holiday for years.

Cutesbabasmummy · 13/09/2020 20:28

We haven't. Our Majorca trip for June was cancelled and everything in the UKnwas suoer expensive snd no guarantee of good weather.

BarcelonaBetty · 13/09/2020 20:29

Us. I've just realised I've spent every night in my own house since the middle of Dec. This has never happened before, we always go away the middle of Feb then in the summer. We've not even been to stay with my parents this year

NeonBella · 13/09/2020 20:29

Nope but it's not covid related. It's cash flow related!
You have no idea what I'd give for a break away somewhere! I don't even have a garden to enjoy being at home.
Life feels pretty bleak
