Anyone not even been on uk break this year?

Are you next year?

intoxicatedbee · 10/09/2020 12:30

nope cancelled my abroad holiday. Havent really left the house since Feb. I am in the vulnerable group, wouldnt want to holiday in UK anyway, I do not want contact with people

brainstories568 · 10/09/2020 12:32

Nope. Barely left my immediate vicinity between March and August as if I couldn't walk it then I couldn't go, and quite literally didn't leave my house between March and June as I was shielding. Husband now has a car so we've been places a few miles away a couple of times at the weekend. We had Centre Parcs booked for lockdown week in March which was cancelled, we rearranged it to Sept and decided to cancel as their altered package made it not worth it given we were wanting to spend a lot of time in the pool with our toddler.

Usually we go on at least one long haul, possibly two, holidays per year plus random short breaks in Europe/the UK then international travel with work so this year has been very different!

It is what it is though and hopefully next year will be better... She says, not very optimistically!

Egghead68 · 10/09/2020 12:37

Not been on one. No plans to go in one.

Egghead68 · 10/09/2020 12:38

I am extremely clinically vulnerable and don’t have a car.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/09/2020 12:38

For the last few years DS and I have spent a week in Dorset staying with friends who kindly accommodate us. Anything else is unfortunately unaffordable as a single parent. We didn't go this year because of Covid and because I am having treatment for cancer. For those reasons, we haven't had any days out or day trips either. DS (9) is fine with it, but I feel bad as I usually organise a packed holiday schedule as best I can. We have tried to make the most of the amazing countryside that surrounds us and we take for granted just because it's there and we've had a lot of fun at home. I can't, at this stage, see next year being any different but we'll have to wait and see.

Concerned7777 · 10/09/2020 12:39

No not been on holiday anywhere but more because of work commitments and financial reasons than covid

Ginkypig · 10/09/2020 12:41

No Iv decided that I can wait a year. I normally do 2 or 3 3-4 night trips a year within the uk.

I should say though that I did go away in January before this all kicked off.

Dp couldn't go on his yearly trip to visit his family either as it was the middle of lockdown so he won't see his family until next year now.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 10/09/2020 12:42

Yes, one week away in the UK. Eyewateringly expensive, and not even in school holiday times. Much as I love the UK, it reminded my why I often holiday abroad.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 10/09/2020 12:42

No. We stayed at home. We did do some daytrips but DH did not really want to go away and have restricted access and risk poor weather. Plus I needed to be around on results days and his leave is now limited due to Covid redundancies increasing his workload. We have something transferred from Easter this year to next and will hopefully book a summer break somewhere in January (although this could be UK rather than abroad). I missed my holiday. Sad

ElephantsAlltheWayDown · 10/09/2020 12:43

Us. We've had our trips back home to the US to see family cancelled this year and didn't bother booking a UK holiday. It felt like it would just be stressful instead of fun.

Haven't done many days out, either! I guess we've got used to just being at home.

movingonup20 · 10/09/2020 12:44

We stayed with family, must admit we went on holiday long haul in February so I'm not too deprived this year! Have booked a couple of nights next week, hoping that with the schools back it will be quieter

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/09/2020 12:47

We're going away for our wedding anniversary next weekend and I can't wait. We've also booked a few nights away in December so I'm keeping everything crossed for that one.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 10/09/2020 12:50

Just one very modest camping trip in a kind friend’s field !
Otherwise agree with others - just enjoyed the weather in our garden and took the opportunity to pay for some home improvements. Have genuinely enjoyed it, and I bloody love holidays usually.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 10/09/2020 12:53

We haven't. We were booked in for Easter but took a refund instead of rebooking.

We've not been more than 3 miles from home because we don't have a car and don't want to use public transport for day trips.

RachelRosie · 10/09/2020 12:56

Nope cancelled two trips, one UK/based around family visit. The other Europe in October.

Hoping to do UK trip next April. Will be last chance to do term time trips whilst DD isn't at school

Blobby10 · 10/09/2020 12:56

I went away last Friday for two nights for my OH 50th. Other than that I've been working in the office every day (Mon-Fri except bank hols) since 2nd January running small engineering business. No chance of any more time off this year except for the odd day here or there, not possible to work from home. Its shit but I'm lucky to have had a semblance of normality even though there is a part of me that would have loved to be furloughed and able to spend time in my house doing all the stuff I'm having to cram into the evenings and weekends when I'm knackered Grin. Would normally have had 3 x week long UK breaks throughout the year.

dottiedodah · 10/09/2020 12:56

We were due to fly to the States to visit friends ,My big birthday coming up! However decided fingers crossed going next year! Still a little apprehensive about a Hotel TBH .Have stayed at home and gone to Beach/New Forest/pubs /Restaurants .(live on South Coast anyway) Not too bad really !

Nonagoninfinity · 10/09/2020 12:57

Me, we would normally camp but everywhere has been so busy I just didn't fancy it. We had some lovely days out though (we live in a seaside town). We've also spent the money we've saved on making the house a bit more comfortable. I've had a pretty good summer given the circumstances. We have booked an air b n b for next month but we're resigned to cancelling if we feel any restrictions would spoil it too much. There's always next year!

nicknamehelp · 10/09/2020 13:23

Me but due to other issues not covid related.

lesbihonest · 10/09/2020 13:24

I haven’t been on a holiday since 2015 Blush - and never really prior to that either . Never had the spare cash ! You can’t miss something if you’ve never had it thankfully .

Theworldisfullofgs · 10/09/2020 13:28

Not gone anywhere. Was planning hopefully for October but I think that we might not now.

Viv0321 · 10/09/2020 13:53

Anyone booked for next year? We are looking too.

OP posts:
RevolutionRadio · 10/09/2020 13:55

Not booked for next year yet, we usually leave it til quite near the time. I guess I'm future we'll have to book earlier if we want a better choice of places.

notacooldad · 10/09/2020 13:56

Nope just couldn't face the crowds and couldn't justify the cost
I guess it depends where you go. I e been away several times and picked quiet places. It meant we had a lovely time with no congestion parking issues.

Devlesko · 10/09/2020 13:58

Shock, horror, no we haven't. Grin
We usually travel the UK a lot, so it was nice to be in bricks n mortar for a change.
Can't wait to get on the road, but being messed about too much atm, we are staying put.
