End social distancing now - it’s time to get back to normal

Four deaths from coronavirus were recorded on 5th September - and yet the economy is on its knees, businesses are folding and my GP refuses to do face to face appointments because of the supposed risks posed by this “deadly” disease. Whilst I have every sympathy for the families of those who died, there are more people killed on Britain’s roads each day than there are from Covid.

People said there would be a massive spike in cases/deaths after the BLM protests and guess what - that failed to materialise. Central London was packed when I was there last weekend so nobody is taking the virus seriously anyway. AIBU to think it’s time we end this social distancing farce now and get back to normal, before more people lose their jobs and homes and the economy tanks still further?

Exactly what I've been saying.
People can't live like this for too much longer. Its cruel and unfair.

dementedpixie · 07/09/2020 16:28

Cases are going up right now. Who knows if that will translate to more hospitalisations/deaths but I think it prudent to maintain social distancing for now until we see what happens

Shehz21 · 07/09/2020 16:29

Agreed OP. Can't wait for this farce to end.

Blahbaa · 07/09/2020 16:29

The problem is not do much the self isolating but that if a person tests positive, everybody else they have been near has to self isolate for 14 days even if they have no symptoms. It’s going be hugely disruptive especially in schools where bubbles of 200 dc will have to stay at home if just one of their year group has cv.

peasoup8 · 07/09/2020 16:30

Oh, and the fact that most people are ignoring the social distancing rules (if the threads on here are anything to go by) and the latest death toll is still only 4, shows just how deadly this disease really is Hmm

Yes, YABU, to say something so utterly ridiculous. 3000 cases a day, is not nothing. Exponential growth (look it up) will mean lots more deaths.

Emmie12345 · 07/09/2020 16:30

Agree OP

Oh how we do love to unite against an imaginary enemy

Blahbaa · 07/09/2020 16:31

Sorry I meant to say the problem isn’t the social distancing but the self isolating.

peasoup8 · 07/09/2020 16:31

Exponential growth (look it up) will mean lots more deaths.

Oh come off it. I’ve been hearing that there’s going to be “lots more deaths” for weeks now and yet the latest death toll is 4.

take it you've not lost anyone close to you through covid then op?

thecatneuterer · 07/09/2020 16:33

Agreed.

Sennetti · 07/09/2020 16:34

we haven't hit second peak yet op.....please be patient for all the deaths coming.

MarshaBradyo · 07/09/2020 16:34

I’m fine with restrictions as they are. Give schools a chance

Shieldingending · 07/09/2020 16:36

I think we need to see the effect of increased cases with schools returning before making changes. If the pictures is similar by October half term I'd completely agree. Remember there weren't many deaths in Feb / early March ...

AmelieTaylor · 07/09/2020 16:36

Because lots of people ARE isolating /social distancing/washing hands/wearing masks/being careful.

Autumn/Winter is always bad - we don't need widely spread CV cases rising too!

What is it you're so desperate to do that you can't?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/09/2020 16:37

I'd happily go back to normal to be honest but my priority is keeping DS in school so if I need to keep social distancing to do that I will.

Floralbean · 07/09/2020 16:38

I guess it depends where you are, traffic back to normal levels here, most offices reopen, shops and pubs etc back to their normal hours- the only difference is you may have to queue a few mins, baby groups have restarted, even soft play has reopened.

pregnantprayingmantis · 07/09/2020 16:38

How about the deaths are currently low due to the measures in place? When it appears there isn't a problem it means the steps taken to avoid it are working. Infection rates are using quickly and the deaths will follow Even if a person doesn't die we are only now starting to understand the long term effects. I certainly don't want myself or my family to become infected and we will be lining up for a vaccine when it's available. The other people to consider are the healthcare workers who are putting their own lives and health at risk everyday treating these infected people so they don't become a statistic.

Indoctro · 07/09/2020 16:38

Totally agree

Porcupineinwaiting · 07/09/2020 16:39

So who do you want not to be distancing from OP and what do they think? If you're ok with it, then just go ahead. Or are you saying businesses have to stop being proactive in slowing spread and protect their staff because - well what? You don t like it?

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 07/09/2020 16:40

But, and I've said it before but apparently it needs saying again and again.

If cases go up and up and up, and those people can't work because they're self isolating, who will be running and working in hospitals, doctors surgeries, supermarkets, delivery vans, schools, colleges, universities, power stations, water treatment plants.........................................

peasoup8 · 07/09/2020 16:40

What is it you're so desperate to do that you can't?

Have my GP stop hiding behind a phone and see my child face to face for starters.

Why can I go to the hairdresser but my baby can’t get seen by the GP?

That's your GPS decision not the government guidelines, I was at my surgery last week having my contraceptive implant replaced and I'm in a lockdown city.
Sennetti · 07/09/2020 16:41

what 'normal' do you even mean? pretty much everything is now open

standing close next to strangers is the only thing we aren't doing here.....and i'm cool with that!
