would likely discourage more people from having other vaccines later

Plus it would discourage people from having other, proven safe, vaccines like the MMR. The anti-vax viewpoint would be more believable if a government rushed through a vaccine that did more harm than good.

Sunshinegirl82 · 10/09/2020 13:28

I am very, very pro vaccination but I wouldn't give my DC a vaccine for an illness that is likely to be very mild for them without it having completed the full trial process in the usual way. I suspect I wouldn't be alone on that.

I am confident that the vaccines being developed in the U.K. will be appropriately tested. If I was in the US I would be very wary of Trump's approach and much more likely to refuse the vaccine which is obviously dangerous to the success of any vaccine programme overall.

CoffeeandCroissant · 10/09/2020 14:03

@Sunshinegirl82 Yes, I agree with you on that.

MarshaBradyo · 10/09/2020 14:05

I don’t know if Trump rush it through but I did think the announcement the other day from a scientist there that it could be ready was electioneering.

wintertravel1980 · 10/09/2020 14:06

Zoe Covid has been publishing daily estimates of symptomatic transmission rates for about a week. The number had been going up since Aug 20-25 but today is the first time it has finally gone down (from 3000+ to 2,605). Let us see if this trend continues.

The change might not be statistically significant but if the new cases are indeed driven by returning holiday makers (and their teenage children throwing end-of-summer parties), there is hope that the trend of the past few days might be reversed.

MarshaBradyo · 10/09/2020 14:09

It has drastically reduced on Covid messenger too. Only a couple of days, but we’ll see.

CrunchyNutNC · 10/09/2020 14:12

I assume the government would not have made what is a fairly significant move unless they were concerned about what was currently brewing.

cathyandclare · 10/09/2020 14:14

That's interesting Winter- it's still over 3600 on my app- am I looking in the wrong place?

wintertravel1980 · 10/09/2020 14:15

Hmm... I am using the desktop version - Covid.joinzoe.com/data

I am wondering which number is correct.

cathyandclare · 10/09/2020 14:19

I think (and maybe I want to think) the desktop is usually more up to date.

Adesignforstrife · 10/09/2020 14:19

Yeah Zoe is showing me >3,000 too.

Adesignforstrife · 10/09/2020 14:20

(desktop and app both 3,368)

MRex · 10/09/2020 14:20

Stranger still my covid-Zoe app says 3,368 daily new cases in the UK. What is going on???

MarcelineMissouri · 10/09/2020 14:22

Mine also says 3368

cathyandclare · 10/09/2020 14:22

Yes that's what I've got Mrex

cathyandclare · 10/09/2020 14:23

The 3600 must have been I refreshed.

wintertravel1980 · 10/09/2020 14:24

Have reloaded the page and also got 3,368.

It is a shame - it was indeed showing 2,605 20 minutes ago! I was very happy to see the lower number but looks like it was wrong:(.

MRex · 10/09/2020 14:24

Sorry, I see I tally with the latest posters, was delayed replying to @wintertravel1980 and @cathyandclare.

SistemaAddict · 10/09/2020 14:41

Imagine what it would be if everyone who needed one could actually get a test. Then there's the asymptomatic cases so actually numbers will be higher not to mention the false negatives.

intoxicatedbee · 10/09/2020 16:11

have todays new case figures been released? seem to be late nothing on Sky news....

cathyandclare · 10/09/2020 16:14

The site says they're uploading the data and to check at 16.26- oddly specific!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/09/2020 16:16

I thought that cathy. Might refresh the page at 4.25

cathyandclare · 10/09/2020 16:19

Rebel Grin

PrayingandHoping · 10/09/2020 16:22

I've had 2919 come up which isn't the same as yesterday so I assume it's today's
