2919 and 14 deaths

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/09/2020 16:24

That must be today’s I still have 2659 because I haven’t refreshed the page and that is yesterday’s.

herecomesthsun · 10/09/2020 16:24

yy same here, 14 deaths and 2919 cases, refresh at 16.26

alreadytaken · 10/09/2020 16:25

positive tests reported from 2 Hounslow schools and an unknown number in Wandsworth. I imagine there are others but I happened to hear of those.

The government can spend large sums on increasing testing but wouldnt fund a vitamin D study - and if the study reported here was replicated Covid-19 could be reduced to something that would begin to look more like flu.

I think I'd rather take my chances with high dose vitamin D than with a vaccine, the side effects of vitamin D are known.

4 schools in Dorset affected

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/09/2020 16:35

Just seen someone post 500 schools on another post affected in UK.

Frazzled2207 · 10/09/2020 16:41

there really should be an official tally of schools affected. I know there is in Wales and there might be in Scotland but not in england/uk as far as I know. Which is bad.

I’d be interested in seeing numbers for Scotland too since they have been back longer
blunderbird · 10/09/2020 16:45

Does anyone remember what the numbers were last Thursday?

MarcelineMissouri · 10/09/2020 16:47

@blunderbird 1735 cases and 13 deaths

I heard on news this morning that this is how Belgium got on top of their sharp rise. Max 5 people meeting from and in households.

I know people had asked if we knew what Belgium did.

So let's hope we see the same thing.

I agree there's a good chance this is returning holiday makers but we need people to take it seriously to stop it getting out of control. It just seems that getting a test is so hard and I worry this will affect compliance. People will happily test for symptoms but if after a few days they feel better and couldn't have a test I fear there is a chance they won't isolate longer. But of course that's just hypothesis and not actual data.

Yes I heard that today. Because I work in a school we are very quickly aware of these things! I'm adjoining county too so even more aware!
pussycatinboots · 10/09/2020 16:56

alreadytaken Morrisons do 25mg Vit D for £3 for 90. There's loads in my local store.

SistemaAddict · 10/09/2020 16:59

Still no tests.
That's a big jump in numbers in a week and it's consistently up and with lacking testing too.
The number of affected schools is very worrying and I can only see it getting worse as they've only been back a week.
I feel very pessimistic today and feel like shit generally so being upbeat is not an option.

PrayingandHoping · 10/09/2020 16:59

Vit D is cheap as chips and the NHS has advised us all to take it for years from Oct-April....

lurker101 · 10/09/2020 17:04

@MarshaBradyo not Scotland, but NI schools numbers (published yesterday). NI high schools typically start to go back from around 24 August dependent on year groups, with Primary schools starting to go back around 1 September. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-54088398

IloveJKRowling · 10/09/2020 17:11

Since we started with higher infection levels (generally speaking) in England than in Scotland, wouldn't this translate into more closures earlier on?

3 kids off in my older DD's class today - all have sore throats. They've been back for 1 week.

She went back for a month in June/July. They did proper social distancing and the class was half the size. No-one got ill at all. I know it's anecdata but still....

alreadytaken · 10/09/2020 17:16

pussycat - I have enough to last me and OH until next April, I believe in being prepared :). Still going to get what sun is available this month but when I go out the sun finds a cloud to hide behind.

whatsnext2 · 10/09/2020 17:56

Just like to point out that although, hopefully, a vaccine would protect you, a big part of them is reducing transmission so you don’t infect anyone else.

If the general opinion is similar to being voiced here and avoiding vaccines then we don’t stand a chance against Covid.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/09/2020 17:58

Sunderland apparently has the second highest case rate after Bolton at the moment.

SistemaAddict · 10/09/2020 18:01

Does anyone have a link for the schools info please? I can't see anything on the bbc, guardian or MEN at last look. The main news seem to be quite quiet on this whereas the local news is being very open about schools.

JK yes absolutely on higher infection levels but SD not as much atm. Too early.

We are testing more and there’s more cases. If half of each school had gone back it would be roughly half the closures due to one or more case coming in.

The effect of SD is in the following weeks as we see whether it’s spreading in schools.

So I’m interested in whether it’s rising in Scotland.

MarshaBradyo · 10/09/2020 18:05

Thanks Lurker will have a look, hopefully it has trend info
