I’ve obviously no imagination but are people still furloughed? If so, what type of jobs do they do? Traffic is still light near me so I think lots are wfh if they can but just trying to work out of people are still off and furloughed

My neighbour is still furloughed but working a few part time hours at home, she does office work, not sure which sector and is going back fully hopefully end of a October when furlough ends

BlusteryShowers · 04/09/2020 11:22

I think some places are partially open and doing part time furlough.

My dad delivers supplies primarily to tourism, entertainment and hospitality businesses. As those businesses are facing some uncertainty, it's having a knock on effect on the volume of orders to the company my dad works for. There are two drivers, so they're alternating working for a few weeks, then furlough for a few weeks.

GreatestShowUnicorn · 04/09/2020 11:23

In Scotland swimming pool and gym staff as lots of councils are only opening up some facilities.

DeltaFlyer · 04/09/2020 11:33

I work for a school run after school club and I'm still on furlough with no plans to return until the end of October.
It's a very small school, less than 50 kids on roll. And demand isn't very high anyway, somedays no one is booked in. Ad hoc bookings so never any firm interest anyway.
I think they'll choose not to have me back once the job retention scheme ends.

I’m still on furlough, our company does things like exhibition stands, marketing materials etc so as congresses and exhibitions aren’t going to be going ahead any time soon we don’t have a huge amount of work!
My friend works for a travel company doing business travel and thier business has dropped 90% obviously.

Seriouslymole · 04/09/2020 11:43

A lot of employees connected to the travel industry which, despite the media view, is not running at anywhere near the level it was.

Thebearsbunny · 04/09/2020 11:47

My friends DH’s small communication business still has the majority of staff furloughed. My Dp is still furloughed (another small business, deals with security amongst other things) along with quite a few other members of staff, though he is being made redundant shortly.

MaudesMum · 04/09/2020 11:47

Nearly everyone who works in theatre, festivals, music and other live events, and those who work in the industries supporting all of these. Redundancies are now happening amongst many of those on furlough.

Thebearsbunny · 04/09/2020 11:48

Also a friend who works in research at an RG university is still furloughed.

Papyrus · 04/09/2020 11:49

I’m still furloughed. Museum sector

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/09/2020 11:59

I only went back last month, I'm in furniture manufacturing. In my town the travel agents are all still closed although they may be WFH but I expect a lot in the travel industry are still furloughed.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 04/09/2020 12:02

arts, entertainment, events and leisure industries
my friend was furloughed till Monday, when she got her redundancy consultation letter

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/09/2020 12:04

I work in the travel industry and lots still furloughed, and sadly thousand of jobs have already been lost with thousands more expected. As well as Tour operators and agents there's a huge knock on effect on support services- Airport shops, car park services and transport. Food and cleaning suppliers for airlines and cruise ships. Coach transport. Events industry is also still pretty much closed.

notimagain · 04/09/2020 12:06

I’ve obviously no imagination but are people still furloughed? If so, what type of jobs do they do?

People working for airlines, people working at airports, and associated industries (catering, etc)..and it's looking pretty grim for many once the clock runs out on Furlough.

Scarby9 · 04/09/2020 12:06

Everyone I know who works in the theatre or entertainment (orchestra members etc) is still on furlough, expecting to be made redundant when furlough ends. That sector has been so badly hit.

DamitJanet · 04/09/2020 12:15

I am, charity sector. Some are beginning to head back to work but I suspect redundancies are round the corner.

RB68 · 04/09/2020 12:28

Work for our own company and still furloughed on flexischeme at moment so I can tick things over till work picks up

tired17 · 04/09/2020 13:06

I work in the business travel sector and still furloughed - no end in sight

Heatherjayne1972 · 04/09/2020 13:09

Some dental colleagues are still furloughed or off with no pay
A lot of dentists are only doing emergency treatment so hygienist services not needed

PatsyStone39 · 04/09/2020 13:15

My partner works for a large engineering company. Most of the junior grade staff are either on furlough or back working part-time until 31st Oct. But they have started unfurloughing a few people in the busier departments now.

Lucindainthesky · 04/09/2020 13:18

Theatre. I've taken voluntary redundancy but most of my colleagues are still furloughed.

DianaT1969 · 04/09/2020 13:22

I know a few people who supply services to the conference and film industry - videographers, film editors, stage and lighting design. They are going through the redundancy process now.
Also, a salesperson for commercial refrigeration. Nobody is opening new restaurants, hotels and bars.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/09/2020 14:11

As others have stated - huge numbers still furloughed in entertainment, events, hospitality, leisure and tourism

Expect mass job losses from end of October on top of the many that have already gone

cheerfulcoconut · 04/09/2020 14:26

I know two people still furloughed who work in theatres, and one who's in travel. There are no plans for any of them to return, so they're all pretty worried.

trilbydoll · 04/09/2020 14:28

A bit niche, but staff canteens are not running at normal levels because even if offices are open, there are reduced numbers on site. Ours usually has 3 members of staff but although it has stayed open it has only required 1 person since March.
